I always watch the seasons in order to know all the story, but that's just me though I recommend you to do it too. Why watch it? If you're a fan of videogames you will enjoy it as much as most of the people did, even if you aren't it is great. Personally I think it was perfect, a bit of action, a bit of romance, adventures, videogame related, and a fantasy theme mostly in ALFheim. I just loved it and I hope you do so. Most people are telling you to don't watch the second arc, but you should, because its in that arc that you know what happened to Asuna while the other players went back to their normal lifes, the reason why they are in a special school and why Suguha likes Kirito that much. If you are going to watch Sword Art Online, watch it until the end. |

| Nope! First season is not completely necessary in understanding the new one. Most of the original cast won't play a major role in the GGO arc anyway so you won't be completely clueless. If there's some stuff that you don't understand, I'm sure a simple Google search will clear it up ^-^ |

He just wrote his game name using a different Japanese aphabet (forgot if it was hiragana or katakana) and in order to understand why he'll be extremely stronger than everyone else in this season, you need to watch the first season (I have read all of the novels including the 51% of novel 13, which have been translated, so as a big fan who knows what will happen in the next season I recommend you watch the first season beforehand) :) P.S. There's no yuri, and the main character's avatar kinda looks like a girl in this game, but there's an enxplanation as why that is (at least in the novel, I don't think they'll bother about it in the anime) |

| Though you could watch it without having watched the first, I would recommend you to watch the first season, since there's a heavy lot of references of what happened in SAO, or better than that, read the novels. The novels are way better than the anime! |
