Indeed. While the visuals are a thing of beauty from KyoAni, the characters and how they deal with things, from everyday stuff to complex issues and so on, are done in a way that I find very engaging and makes me like the series a lot. As you said, it's done in a realistic manner which I can understand if that's not to everyone's preference, but for me, since it's done really well, that's a big plus point for me.
I always keep that in mind when it comes to encouraging anyone else that I know to check this series out, which I really should do more of!
I only noticed just now about your quote of my message on the most recent episode of Sound! Euphonium about Maya. I'll admit that what I'd like to say would be pretty similar to Perseii's response to you as well. I may be overthinking about it, since Kanade was an interesting character for Kumiko to deal with during the Chikai no Finale movie, but it does make me wonder about more of Maya's past at her previous school and what led her to transfer to Kitauji high.
I do see her being a strong player for the club, but also offer some competition for Kumiko since she's a fellow euphonium player herself. It's one way to become a better player by having another player of the same skill and instrument compete.
Don't hesitate to ask me for a more in-depth opinion if needed in the future. =)
