Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

When I was in high school there was a clique that was called "Anime Kids." Most of those kids were like socially awkward and and greasy. The worst part was that not all of them were into anime. Since whatever isn't mainstream seems to be put down so does anime. It's sad to see anime used as a way to negatively describe people :/

Pfft, thinking and research? Who needs that?

Cause lets be hones ta really big part of anime isnt something to boost about.
I mean can you really boost about sexualization of lolis or extremely huge boobs? Or can you proudly show someone that isnt familiar with anime the concept of moe?
Ofc there are pretty mature and awesome anime out there but a lot of the stuff does fall into the fanservice/moe/loli part and that is what people notice the most. I certainly cant blame their criticism on anime, cause theyre not just coming from anywhere. Anime is weird, the question is are you ready to embrace the madness and take it in harness it and become part of it? Cause I sure as hell was and still am :D.

I'd have to say the most obvious reason is ignorance. Although some people just hate on what they don't like so there's that.

Before I was into anime I thought it was all just hentai and kids shows and that kept me away from it for a while. I also thought all anime fans were completely crazy back then and were all obsessed with their waifus/husbandos. While that's partially true its not as bad as i originally thought.

I avoided anime watchers when I went to school (even though I watched quite a bit myself) because they were annoying. If they were not such annoyances to be around, I might of at least chatted with them some.

I dont know anyone that actually watches anime a lot like I do, so idk for sure, but if most anime fans are like the people here on MAL I can see why anime has such a bad name :D

Well, there are 2 main views people on the outside generally have about anime -

1. They are cartoons, and all cartoons are for kids
2. All anime is cartoon porn (aka, ecchi and hentai)

A lot of anime fans being nerdy/overweight introverts doesn't exactly help either to be honest. Unfortunately, it would be difficult to convince an outsider that not all anime is the above. Hell, before I saw Death Note (my 3rd series), I myself thought all anime was for kids. It sure showed me.

Exactly, you're not helping its case by showing them shit like that. You'll just creep them out.

Which is why we should have a world-wide holiday where we all sit down and marathon Mushishi and talk about its splendors.

Even if anime has that social prejudice attached, it doesn't help if we make victimist claims about it and act as if our mission was to evangelize the ignorant crowd.

Let them judge freely, it's not that your Chinese cartoons will get worse because of that, damn it.

It's definitely not cartoons are for kids, adults still watch cartoons; examples that come to mind are Family Guy and South Park. It's more the stereotype of pathetic/lonely dudes watching tentacle porn together and breathing heavy. It's like dudes who ice skate, they're not all gay. In my experience people usually don't take stereotypes they recognize as ridiculous too seriously.
There's no need for all this tension.

I wasn't necessarily talking about you but posting a video about just how many times they say fuck in the show isn't really showing how it's mature. It's clear that your aim was to show them that an anime show says curse words a lot(which isn't mature).

I don't believe it has anything to do with anime itself, those people don't even know what anime is like.
I believe it's because a major part of the fandom (or at least the most vocal part) is conformed by weeaboos, weirdos, nerds, socially awkward, etc..
So it's natural that people will relate: watching anime=weirdo.

We should show them the variety of the medium by introducing them to lolis and Yaoi.

Adding onto this, people who aren't anime fans are, for the most part, unaware that what they think are only preconceptions. Like what most other people have said, people think anime are just cartoons and childish shows, and that's it. However, there are plenty of shows that smash those preconceptions, solidifying the fact that anime can indeed tell a mature story.
Also, anime is a geeky and weird thing. If you watch anime, some people may instantly label you as a nerd, or geek, or weirdo, or creep who watches asian cartoon porn.
Though I'm not completely open about this hobby o' mine, if someone asks me, I'll be honest. I've no trouble letting my friends know that I love anime, and if they have a problem with it, well, they're not great friends, are they? Then again, I don't go running down the hallways screaming "I LOVE ANIME! GO HARUHIIIIIIII!!!!!"

Because people and their generic 30 or so manime (and dropped "moeshit" with grades in between 1 and 2) on their lists like to swing their e-penis around and blast the medium with generalizations generalizations everywhere.

We're talking about on MAL, correct? That's exactly why anime is looked down upon, because manime has been replaced by loads and loads of "moeshit" that is cancerous to the industry.
