Ouch. After seeing Goro blaze through the Minors last season, I was expecting him to be somewhat formidable against Major level players. Seems like that isn't the case. It'll be interesting to see what Goro does to make his pitches "alive."

but to give major credit, its a pretty realistic anime, no special techniques or whatever.

besides the gyroball nonsense in season 2 or 3.

The "gyroball" is a real concept used by the Boston Red Sox's Daisuke Matsuzaka among others (see here).

Anyway, I think the preview showed Goro throwing a splitter. Would be really nasty if his fastballs could have a dip at the end, would really throw off the batters.

The gyroball is real, but Matsuzaka doesn't throw one, and if you hear some Fox announcer calling one of his pitches a gyroball, he is an idiot and is somehow mistaking a circle changeup as a type of fastball. The way this anime explains and describes the gyroball is correct.

Oh, and Kyoushirou is the biggest ripoff of Ichiro, it is nice though that the anime keeps his stance and swing intact.

and is Goro finally going to learn a second pitch, I thought he was going to pick one up last season. I think it will be a forkball, I guess they gotta keep him Japanese after he spent time in America learning slang and all that good stuff.

Goro seems to learn his new pitch relatively fast from what I saw and read of the manga.

I know a gyroball is real, but few people have been able to throw it, and dice k isn't really one of them.

Some 17 year old or w/e being a gyroball was the nonsense i was talking about.

Lol well that obviously shows the difference in their abilities and skills. I think Kyoushiro is one of the top in majors, maybe at around Gibson level (just assuming). But I doubt the difference between Triple A and Majors is that much of a difference. Goro isn't officially in the majors but I'm sure his current skill is around the rookie majors level or just in between majors and Triple A. He just has to slowly climb to the top.

I wonder if Sanchez will be participating in the American team :))

To me Goro pitches looked slower well atleast the animation for them did... Even if he is in the Majors, hitting a 100 mph ball isn't easy at all and it kinda pisses me off that he acting like it's the easy shit in the world!

Its not just Ichiro, the other major leaguer is a dead ringer for Hideki Matsui. And what's this? A breaking ball? Goro? No way...he's supposed to go the entire way with a fastball...

good episode! had me laughing a few times especially Goro in that get up of his. then making fun of the old man hes so immature but we love him anyway. I felt he really didn't have any compassion behind his pitches this time so they weren't his best so I wasn't surprised he could hit them. I want him to try and hit those balls where Goro is feeling pressured and always comes out on top! GO GORO!

Here we go again with Goro's cocky attitude and mouth.. but surprisingly, after watching the previous seasons, it is pretty normal already and is making the story more interesting..

He got schooled pretty hard there. I figured he would atleast surprise the hitter somewhat, but nope. Too bad too, I thought that he would be able to hold his own against a major league batter by now, but that doesn't seem to be the case at all.

Here we go again. I remember this exact thing happening last season when sanchez dissed shigeno's pitch, and his pitch was garbage or something. Why have I watched 4 seasons? Because goro was an amazing pitcher, and now I'm here and they tell me he has shitty pitches? Yah whatever. If that's true than myumara or what ever his fucking name is must have a thrid-rate pitch compared to shigeno's triple A championship pitch. I hate when animes are inconsistent. That is why season one was the best so far, because no one ever degraded shigeno's pitch, it was admired and feared.

Remember, in the 1st season when Shigeno-ossan said to Honda to comeback as a pinch-hitter instead of a pitcher, Honda took that advise seriously and played as a pinch-hitter afterwards. Look, like father like son. :D Shinego's surprised expression in this episode reminded me of old times, natsukashii na!

Looks like Kyoushiro skinned Gorou alive back there, I wonder how Gorou's reaction will be?

Are you seriously waiting for Gorou getting praised all the time? It would be ridiculous.

Ouuuuuch. Right in the pride. Lifeless ball, that's one hell of a criticism.

He'll have to learn more technics if he want to get noticed by the coaches.

Goro getting to the a batting center for the Chrismas Eve was freaking hilarious xD
Goro arrogance is always priceless too. That face he made when he was reconized...

Christmas Eve spent in a batting center, typical of Goro.
He now knows that his level is still far from the Majors.

Okay, to everyone saying something about the gyroball, gyroballs are real. The anime didn't make it up.

As for this episode, my feeling are a bit mixed. Boastful or not, win or lose, it should not have been that easy to hit Gorou's pitch. He hit it perfectly on the first swing? What? It would take someone seriously talented to hit that properly even in the Majors. For him to get it on the first swing is just way too much, and it belittles the sheer skill it would actually take to hit such a pitch well.

There's no way I'm buying that Mayumura's pitching is significantly better than that, either.

Having Gorou learn breaking balls is fine and well, but I'd rather the anime not start sacrificing realism.

The romance elements were cute, but Gorou's dating idea was considerably more clueless this time around.

About time that someone shows Gorou how much he still has to learn, well earned after mocking the old coach.

Guess it's time for another intense training session.

So there’s this kind of stuff again. I’d say this series is a bit repetitive but it’s never boring, so it’s ok.

goro is really hopeless about girls, good thing though he at least bring her alone with toshi, well, i guess the last episode was enough for him to act unlike him.
i really get excited from the fact that toshi and him gonna be together as teammate and not rival, i really liked it in S2 and we get it back again, that also bring me back to like toshi.
and goro still act little strange than the other seasons, he let himself be much more developed, but i guess i like much more of this goro.
and though to bring again another level of players, i guess it is natural given that goro wants to beat gibson to bring him more obstacles, showing it won't be that easy and giving goro a lot of room for developing over the season.

I almost died of laughter seeing Goro and Kaoru spend their christmas eve at the batting center

Goro may've been too cocky there with disrespecting Nemoto who for an old man apparently throws better pitches than the whole Minor League but it pissed me off how easily Kyoshiro no matter how good he is hit the 100 mph balls so easily.
