| wow this Roy Mustang person is powerful i wonder what more will come i think i expected this anime to be different then it is but i cant say it didn't change in a good way cause i really like it so far. the bad guys where really stupid falling for such a simple trick lol. i wonder if this is still a flash back from the library where they found the book about alchemy. |

| That was great! Ed and Al were hilarious all throughout this episode. When Ed pulled the 'ol "made you look" trick, I about lost it. XD Totally was not expecting that. I hope we get a lot more episodes like this! -- 5/5 |
| Narratively this episode has the advantage of performing the action with the need to expand the cast. The stories are told well enough, an episode in its own right that while apparently filling, hiding a lot more in the narrative. The plot is always ripe and the disillusionment is always present in all contexts. Too bad the designs are not so beautiful, while the OST is fantastic. |

| This episode was alright. Definitely more interesting than the last one, and shonen exam episodes are usually fun, so it should pick up here. I don't understand why the show didn't just start from their backstory though. The desert village episodes were a really weird starting point |

| Already liking this better than FMAB. The interactions feel more meaningful, and the comedy has better timing. In FMAB Edward would just go deformed and yell about not calling him short which would get old really fast. But in this show he exaggerates what the other person said about his height which keeps it from getting too repetitive. Obviously animation isn't as good as Brotherhood but it's still way ahead of its time considering this was made in 2003. I also prefer the OST over Brotherhood's |

| Ohhh, I really enjoyed this episode! &++ the OP and ED have grown on me now lol. There's some great character development moments and nice action. Golly, I'm amazed at how the art/animation holds up though. I can guess by looking at it that the anime came out either in the early or mid 2000s, but it's still pretty crisp and easy on the eyes. I also liked the introduction of Hughes here, his screen time is always filled with heartwarming and funny moments when he's gassing up his wife and/or daughter lol |

| Strange that nobody commented on it yet but I found this episode rather lacking. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad but having read the corresponding chapter of the manga as well I just don't like what they did with it. I don't mind introducing Hughes a little earlier. He's a great character, so no complaint there. But there were many other differences to the manga I didn't like: -the animation, especially of the background, seemed very dull and the villains besides Mr. Automail were very generic -they left out the best comedic parts of the manga. Not gonna spoiler them here, just read chapter 4 if you're interested -and I don't understand why they changed the story to Mustang apparently orchestrating the entire train scenario himself and Ed not being a state alchemist yet. They could've easily stayed closer to the manga without affecting the story of the anime apart from showing the exam as a flashback. This just seemed like a random story change simply for the sake of changing something Keep in mind that I do not mind animes to diverge from the manga. But if they do, it should have meaning and be well done. This episode had neither, so not impressed and for me the weakest episode yet (filler not included). |

| again, an ok episode idk, the "plot" or situation in this episode just felt weird things seem to happen without any great reason in this anime... i'll watch some more episodes, but man, it started good and it's only going downhill for me :/ |
