Honestly? Who really cares? If you like the pic, then you shouldn't be ashamed to use it. :|

And yes, my profile picture is of Asa and her hawwwwt mom. ;D

Mine is a girl. It doesn't bother me that much if someone has a picture of an anime girl if they're a boy. As long as they like the picture, it doesn't matter to me.

I'm pretty sure my profile picture has always been of attractive guys. And, I'm a girl. Right now it's a LavixAllen fanart, from D.Gray-man.

What it comes down to is don't judge people's gender by their profile pic, yes?

I really think your gender and the gender of the profile picture don't have to match. That's not weird at all, because here on MAL the majority of the profile pictures are not meant to represent the user, but to show what the user likes. Almost nobody put a photo of her/him up.

Regarding mine, it's a modded picture of Akiko (Nayuki's mother from Kanon) to match my profile. She is also the character I claimed and one of my favorite characters from Kanon. There are actually quite a lot of great characters in this Anime but she doesn't get much credits/attention from Kanon lovers, even though she is quite a cool/funny and important support character.

but i think its fine, too ,because some want to identify themself with their avatars.

My forum pic at the time of this post is a girl. But my profile pic is a guy (Zetsubou!). I just check peoples genders on their profile. Provided they're not lying, that avoids any confusion.
Your search on "Oran Solus" returned the following quotes:
"Oran Solus? I know him. What a wanker. He still owes me a tenner." Oscar Wilde
"Oran, you're so intelligent and awesome <3" Bakayaro
"Oran's sexy." LolitaDecay
"Oran is a sophisticated penguin." Drybananna
"Oran is a Hand-Eye you faggots." EddieSpaghetti
"Oran for Prime Minister." the_prime_one

Mine's a guy, but i usually don't mind about the gender of the pic, as long as you can read the gender of the person clearly.
It's more confusing when you see gender unknow.

2 girls actually. :P

I have the habit of choosing Shana, Louise or other anime girl characters of my favorite as my online graphical representation. Not just at MAL, but other forums as well - for avatars, signature, etc.

Tried using male the day and it was funny that I get "doesn't suit you" and "change back" responses.

It's always bothered me that guys use female anime characters as their avatars. I think it's just stupid. I didn't make a thread about it becuse I figured no one would share my opinion. Thank fuck you do. I just think it's disturbing that they put a female up as their picture which is pretty much what you associate them with. You wouldn't walk around in a dress and a haruhi mask because you like the anime so why fricken do it here?!?

Would you rather stare at a girl or a guy when checking out your own profile, in terms of aesthetics.
i think that's the question you might want to ask before judging others ; )

To be honest I don't spend hours staring at my own profile or really any time my profile doesn't even have an information on it I haven't filled it out it seems a bit stupid to fill it out and it's me that's on my profile so why would I have a problem looking at myself? To be honest I think males should use male pictures just like I think dudes shouldn't wear pink tops. The guy who thought it was suddenly ok to wear pink tops was horrendously wrong. I've seen guys on here with female avatars profile pics and pink sigs. I think that's a bit weird.

profile is fine since you can specify gender as to not be misleading. avatar you can't so I guess its a little bit different there, but you can always click on their profile.. or just not care about gender so much.

What exactly is the point of this thread? Profile and forum pictures are the preference of the user. End of story. Who cares if a guy uses a girl in his picture, or vice versa?

Silliness. So women all have to like pink and men all like black? By extension - women all like shopping and men all like guns and working out? Ponies and war? Emotion and logic? Gender is merely a set of biological differences - dicks and uteri and whatnot. Not some sort of category of personality and identity. Not a preference for some sort of colours, or clothes, or hobbies or whatever the clichés go.

And on the topic of using females as avatars or profile pctures, really, what the cakes? If one thinks they represent oneself well, they do. I rather have someone I can identify with - or something that's aesthetically pleasing or cool - than something that happens to have the same gender as me. Fictionalized gender, even.

So you think that the only thing different between males and females is their sexual organs?

Studdies have shown that our brains are fairly different.
So they should like different things.
Pink has always been very feminine if you want to go feminine yourself up go for it but don't expect me to look at you the same way I will a builder who works his ass off and doesn't wear pink clothing and perfume.

To compare it: 2 different types of CPU's would generate the same random number if all circumstances were identical.

It's all about circumstances. If you let a guy grow up like a girl, then look what becomes of him.

This topic makes me laugh. I don't see why anyone cares. Though mine's rather empty, one thing that a profile is supposed to do is represent a person's interests, so why does it matter if I have anime pictures there, and more specifically, pictures of anime characters that interest me and happen to be female?

Oh, and:

If our brains function differently then we woudln't if what you say is true none of this would have happened and we'd both be exactly the same even now. When life was started and an equal number of male and female people just suddenly began to exist they would act the same. But they didn't proving that men and women think differently.
