Can someone tell the name of the "indian" music @10:25 when Manaka runs in the streets and learn the "meaning" of everything? Such a nice scene! Wasn't in the OST.

I'll be looking to rewatch the series after I watch Paranoia Agent... to post more on this forum.

Can't identify that music, but that really was a great scene.

Looking forward to the final episode, it should tie most things together. Well, those things we weren't supposed to go into the series already knowing from the Boogiepop novels.

Yeah I tried to find a song from the first episode and it seems the OST doesn't include it as well. It's a shame.

that scene where Boogiepop slowly walked up those steps after Manaka was beautiful.

also, this might have been the best episode of an any anime I've ever seen.

so she wasint mentally ill but boy did she ever get the short end of the stick.I was sad to see her life end but it was nice of her to see her mother and give her memories of her past before she passed and say goodbye. It was a very touching scene.Im more confused about random cutting girl since thats not the piano chick so what was her 2 minute apperance about.

So the real Boogiepop finally showed up and turns out Phantom didn't kill everyone. And man did Manaka get screwed over by everyone.

So now everything concerning Manaka has been pieced together. Wow, I really feel for her now, she just wanted to live despite not knowing why she did. That reunion with her mother was bittersweet, especially considering how she forgot Manaka the next day. Looking forward to the final episode, although I'm not sure where they will go from here. This has been a very solid story so far and now I'm finding myself saying "just a little longer, please."

The execution of this episode was great. I cannot re-emphasise how this episode emphasised (a lack of a better word, forgive me) upon the main theme of Boogiepop Phantom: Life. Manaka was born unwanted by her grandmother, who perceived her as devil's child, while her mother does not remember a single thing about her being in existence at all. Manaka was literally cursed with the ability to absorb and engulf the guilt and regret of people all around, and when released from isolation after her grandmother's death, her ability grew and eventually led to her being unable of speech (as stated: the drug-bestowed ability resulted in Manaka being an 'Echo', only to be able to repeat what people said).

Human life is nothing without companions. As she sought to make friends after her grandmother's death, she used her ability to create a friend out of the memory of Mamoru, and since her innate desire was to have more and more friends, resulted in the creation of a Pied Piper, which so coincidentally coincides with Mamoru's past which he wants to forget (albeit, a pathetic reason as we all know). This, unknown to her purity and naivety, actually caused harm to the lives of teenagers who were faced with troubles of growing-up and were entranced to seek eternal refuge under her abilities, threatened human society and the world order, which resulted in Boogiepop's intervention.

It should be noted that her aging was a result of the drug. (Explaining her teen-like appearance when she was only five, and her instantaneous aging into an old woman after the sudden disappearance of her 'friends', which severely depleted her powers and supposed 'life force'. [conjecture here]) The Phantom's later intervention to prevent Boogiepop from killing her was to enable the dispersal of EM waves to simply survive, stating that "she is now too weak to threaten anything".

Nevertheless, I am unclear as to who disappeared in the end: Boogiepop or Phantom. My deduction is that it was Boogiepop, as her role in the first place was to prevent more of Manticore's victims and generally, victims of 'evolution' and her role is technically finished after the end of Manaka. Yet, I have my doubts as Phantom is perceived to have an ambiguous role currently, as well as Manticore+Saotome still remaining to exist. I guess we still need one more episode to wrap up things for good.

Is the title of this episode a reference to Thomas Pynchon's 'Gravity's Rainbow'? I loved that novel, was kind of a mindfuq but very engaging. Anyway, I'm excited to see how this concludes. The different stories within each episode have gradually started to converge with one another. I'm currently feeling a strong 8 or a light 9.

Gravity Rainbow. The trajectory of a bomb. A rocket is fired, it soars, hits its peak, then pulled down by the gravity of the earth. The shape of the bomb when rising and falling is a rainbow-like curve.
You can dream, fly, but then reality bogs you down and you are brought back down to earth. That's a good thing though, trying to live in space is futile anyway. Living on earth is pretty good, if you try. Or whatever!!!

Arab music now?? But my favorite is the sparse music when Manaka runs from Phantom and falls down on the rain soaked ground.
"I want to fly like him" Is that Shinpei Kuroda we see being experimented on, and somehow connected to Manaka and accompanying her to heaven???
I don't remember him in the 1st novel. he's still the last mystery of this show. Maybe his and the female doctor's story will be told in the VS Imaginator novels??

Manaka could see her mother again before dying again. Fucking granny, she killed her the first time. I know from episodes ago but I like the twist for Boogiepop Phantom, she didn't kill everyone..
All weebs creatures of the galaxy, hear this message. Those of you who listen will not be struck by western animation. You will no longer know hunger, nor pain. Your Anime have come to lead you now. Our strength shall serve as a luminous sun toward which all intelligence may blossom. And the impervious shelter beneath which you will prosper. I believe she was initially a normal girl growing up in her grandmother's house. After being murdered and subsequently reanimated by the beam of light caused by Echoes, she "evolved". Then when her grandmother passed away and she wandered out into the world, she came across a dying Echoes who seemingly caused her to "evolve" to another level where she started mimicking whatever is said to her exactly like him.

I am certain it was the original Boogiepop who survived. It wouldn't make sense for the Phantom to survive because it exists only because of the electromagnetic field that exists around the city. With the EM field gone, the Phantom disappears leaving the original behind. It is clear that the one who remains has brown hair and we know that Toka Miyashita has brown hair while the person the Phantom modeled itself on has black hair.

Best episode so far. Manaka Kisaragi's story ties in so many loose ends and really brings it all together. Her passing is both tragic and beautiful, as was her existence as a being. I found it ironic and funny how she's one of the most intelligent people in Boogiepop Phantom, yet she's forced to talk and act like a child. She's the definition: don't judge a book by its cover and first pages.

You say she came across a dying Echoes after being reanimated by the beam of light when she went out into the world, but how exactly? He was already gone when she was exploring the world. I'm not clear as to how she was aware of him, beside perhaps similarities.

I love Manaka's encounter with her mother.
If I had a daughter her name would be Manaka. In a kanji variation of the name, there is the ideogram for "flower" in the kanji. By coincidence the name Manacá (same pronunciation as in the Japanese one) means "flower" in Tupi (Indigenous Brazilian language), and it is a Brazilian plant.

@Boogiepop1989 very interesting coincidence! now I'm reading about similarities in japanese and tupi-guarani languages, fascinating stuff, thanks for the input.
