| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- I honestly thought Hildegard was a man when I first looked at her. As the episode went on, I must say I grew more impressed by her. She's very sharp, noting the major weaknesses of Braunschweig-Littenheim alliance and choosing not to side with them. She knows exactly what she wants and will get it as she's shown in her dealings with Reinhard. And lastly, she's got good communicating/negotiating skill. She was able to convince her father leading to him making her the heir in charge of the family name, and she was able to convince Reinhard that she'll be a loyal ally for him. That's one woman I definitely want to see more of in future episodes, especially if they keep her character just as headstrong. High Admiral Willibald Joachim von Merkatz doesn't look like he'll have his full heart in the fight against Reinhard. Even without the threats against his daughter by Otto he wasn't up for it. Predicting his downfall by saying his goodbyes after leaving Otto's mansion isn't a sure sign of victory either. It will be a pointless civil war, but against 25 million men it will probably end up being very bloody all the same. |

| I'm glad we have such a bold female character in the show now. She certainly tries her damnedest to get what she wants and fortunately, it paid off twice in getting her father to side with her and convincing Reinhard to take her family under his protection. I wish the man that Reinhard caught and released stayed with him instead of that other man. He certainly seems fishy. Also, Braunschweig doesn't deserve that golden ship. Just, no. |

And that military force around their mansion would have wiped them out if they advanced anywhere near it. While the civil war is just a bad idea overall. Reinhard doesn't seem upset by what's going on. I guess when you've seen this coming for so long you have no choice but to go with the flow. I'm happy there is a ambitious, calculating woman in this show, too. Adds I nice new dimension to the show. I'm tired of seeing corrupt, pompous @$$holes prance about trying to obtain or grab more power. The women should get to do it as well. |

| yayy Reinhard finally gets to do one of those ridiculous laughs that he was obviously going to do eventually. his sister seems to be one of those women who everyone loves despite her being useless. I am guessing the only interesting thing about her will be her inevitable tragic demise and how it affects the dudes. Hildegard is cool. There are way too many power-happy old men in this empire. They should all be sent to clean toilets for a while and learn some humility, but I'm sure seeing them get blown to pieces will be nice. |

| So Reinhard becomes the Secretary of War, Supreme Command HQ Secretary General, and Space Fleet Commander all at once under the title "Imperial Fleet High Commander." The consolidation of positions of power in fiction is never a good sign of things to come. And then this exchange with Oberstein: Reinhard: "I haven't seen such a farce lately." Oberstein: "If the ending is not a happy one, it can't be called a farce, can it?" Shit's going down. |

Isn't the whole thing with the Empire and the Allied forces a Giant, drawn out, civil war? I guess it is more like a rebellion than a civil war, but same thing, no? Anyways interesting seeing Reinhard become pretty much the leader of the entire fleet through this. |

The Alliance-Imperial War is not considered as a civil war because the Galactic Empire never controlled any Alliance territory before (except for a few frontier systems) and that the Empire only laid a claim to having sovereignty over the Alliance. Keep an eye for episode 40, which will explain in greater detail the history of the war. |
| Oberstein is still a very shady character to me. I can't find myself trusting him, especially with that eye contact he had with the man who requested to become Reinhard's servant. Just shady. I love the women in this story. Especially considering the fact that this was made in the 80s- 90s. I would like to see more characters like Hildegard, and Frederica Greenhill get a bit more of the spotlight too. |

| Damn! Reindhart is already basically the top guy in the military. There is no one to oppose him because everyone that was left was his enemy and he has made them out as enemies of the empire so they don't have power too! This is awesome. Reindhart FTW! |

| Maybe I'm wrong, but it seemed like the stare between Oberstein and Ferner was about Oberstein not trusting Ferner one bit and seeing through his mask. Everyone here is doubting Oberstein instead. |
| I have to say I'm a little weary of Alliance episodes being mirrored so closely with Empire episodes and vice versa. We went back and forth on the issue of political corruption and now we're doing it with treason. This thread seems to like her but Hildegarde seems almost psychotic to me. Even Reinhard calls her grim. "Interesting times" indeed. |

| Reinhard and Lelouch are very similar. What makes LOTGH better i guess is that there is a better antagonist, and much more depth. Love both shows anyway. Great Episode. |
| So many things happened I don't know what to start with, Oberstein got another underling that fits in his category,it's sad that Braushvig wasn't killed coward son of a bitch, he got angry at his own subordinates for not believing in victory yet he was arranging an escape plan, I gotta say I really loved that Reinhard forgiven that guy. |

| 2021 Rewatch Hildegard returns the favour to Reinhard who helped her father during the Castrop Rebellion. They were right that the Lippstadt faction were incredibly disorganised. Fellner actually believed he was acting in the best interests of total a-hole Braunschweig to go against orders to assassinate Reinhard pre-emptively. Unprepared to match those guarding the residence of a military genius, high-ranking officer and high-ranking aristocrat. Reinhard applying the term "rebel" to the Lippstadt faction is pretty damn funny. |

| hildegrad is interesting character. hope she would have more effect on the story from now on. that man that wanted to be reinhard's slave, he gave him immediately to oibstner, probably knowing he will give him in the right place. i'm impressed from how this episode made great deal in the story, but i can't help seeing how the "rebel fleet" gonna win against reinhard. unless there's going to be some big twist that they gonna combine forces with the FPA. oh and the translator note about reinhard choosing "rebel fleet" was pointless, those who won't understand that reference probably doesn't understand what's going in the series lol. i'm little tired though thinking that the same thing happening in the alliance too... |
