This was a trip down a lane of memories. I think the way the episode was executed is impressive given the way Chise became a sort of guidance for Philomela. They have an underrated chemistry in this anime imo.

It was an episode of emotions and the VAs bought out their personalities at fullest.

Ye, i guess they needed to redeem the furry assassin girl somehow eh, it was all a work of a curse she was under in the end.

Now, as we might expect from this anime, it was not with the splendid fight scenes or a flashy animation, but with a very tasteful dialogue choice that Philomena's character was (almost) saved from the darkness, i really liked that school part ... It really all starts from that first choice, the wish to do something.

But all is not as simple as one might wish for ... but that's precisely what the friends are for :)

Is someone/something residing within Zoe, like it is with Chise? Either way I'm really happy that the werewolf is finally free.
This is some really good voice acting! Really felt it.
Whaaaat is Elias doing to Alcyone?
Everyone's young versions from the OP! And the petals were there this whole time too.
We were this close to saving her.
Really enjoyed this!

This was such a powerful and impactful episode, something seems to be inside Zoe with Zacceroni in the back up to no good I imagine, Ellias doing who knows what to Alcyone, we got to see the weight those 4 are carrying including seeing their cute mini personas and Philomela finally saying what she wants, and everything surrounding the misfortune of Philomela, Lucy and the werewolves being tied to that old woman.

“No one can help anyone’s past, but you’re allowed to speak up now” man this was arguably the best episode of the series for me. The seiyuus and staff brought their A-game for this one.

First off I gotta apologise to the Wolf assassin lady. I really wrote she and her partner off as irredeemable in part 1. I remember saying Chise should’ve left them to the dogs, but if she was under some sort of mind control that changes things. Zoe was able to free her, but it seems like he has some sort of malevolent presence in him as well.. interesting.

Onto the best part of the episode, the kids all being vulnerable and de-aged to kids. Really got a sense of all the horrible things Philomela has been through. Makes last week’s episode even sadder because her parents did everything possible to avoid her having to live like this. The grandmother didn’t care about her own son and certainly doesn’t care about Philomela. The emotional and psychological trauma that girl must have is insane.

I wonder what the grandmother’s ultimate goal with the book is though, it’s definitely not to bring Philomela’s parents back. Gotta be something sinister.

The reveal that Philomela was there the night Lucy’s family was murdered was brutal as well. Can’t imagine how blindsided Lucy must’ve felt. Her seiyuu did an amazing job of conveying that simultaneous feeling of anger, disbelief and pain that someone you called friend was behind it all.

Really really good episode and I can’t wait for next week. They’ve been cooking here lately. Wonder what Elias was up to with Alcyone as well..

An amazing episode. One of the best in the entirety of the series thus far.

"No one can help anyone's past." I love this entire section of the episode a ton. I was perfectly captured and represented by the VAs and the writing of the characters. It hits close to home too... but that is really just a lot of this series as a whole.

Regardless, a great point was made that if you want something in life, YOU need to stamd up for it. No one else can read your mind, and the world will both leave you behind and drag you with it if you let it. You must speak your mind and work things out to move on in life.

Nonetheless, tremendous work on all fronts of the episode. I can't wait to see what the grandmother is planning to do, as well as how all of it will affect the four students (and Zacc) and maybe even Elias. I feel like an Elias bit may come up soon, or at least I hope so. But I like how things are coming together and the characters themselves are also starting to see it. I can't wait to continue again.

Didn’t really hit hard. Things aren’t building up with a nice flow.

The first half of the episode started off nice, but became worse once the side characters started preaching in the dreamlike space. The message itself isn’t bad, but I don’t think they landed it here.

Zoe vs. the werewolf, and it feels as if that he transcended into the Gorgon personality to stop the enemy's attacks from being cursed. At the same time, Alcyone tries all she can to preserve Philomela, and to understand more about her, she requests that only Chise, Lucy and Issac are allowed to see her, which the protective amulet does work its charms. Lucy, upon seeing the spider, blames Philomela for what she's done, which without the amulet due to her burst of powr, Chise leads her into the dragon's den.

Chise glancing with Philomela through each other's memories (but mostly Philomela's while getting some of Chise's mixed in), attempting to repair the former's pieces by picking them up, she couldn't understand why the latter is doing this for her, but it's out of the willingness of Chise that she wants to help Philomela, and fetching the others of Rian and Lucy whilst revealing Lizbeth's true intentions for her as a way to bring her parents back to life through sacrificing people like Lucy's family.

What exactly does Philomela want, that will be her saving grace to salvation.

Didn't feel much watching this episode. Couldn't care less about Philomela, the other characters trying to reach her was nice. Btw thought the wolf being controlled was obvious for a while now with those pin things on her head and their children taken. Didn't think so many people were oblivious to it wow.

Zoe's fight against the female wolf ended a lot quicker than I thought. I wasn't expecting Zoe to shift into something like an alter-ego, as if someone is residing inside of him, with how he talked to the wolf before being able to free her from the curse, which she thanked him and called him a god.

As for Chise and the others, they went through a segment of going down memory lane with all four being younger here compared to their normal age. The memories certainly led to more pain, revealing that Philomela, when she was younger, was part of the group that went to kill Lucy's family. Lucy's shock and anger upon this revelation was understandable, but Philomela herself is still a victim of how her grandmother has treated her, so hearing her open up and shout with raw emotion was expected.

Chise and Isaac did what they could to encourage Philomela to make that important step to decide things for herself, but it doesn't look like the power residing within Philomela will let her do that. I can only see things getting tougher for everyone, so my hopes for a good ending for this arc seems to be getting smaller. =(

I do not get why everyone put the blame on Philomela and completely ignored her repulsive hag of a "grandmother" when it was plain as day she was the one who killed Lucy's family, using those two werewolves as pawns. Come on, they fracking saw it on.. "video".

Why blame the victim and not go after that hag? I also think we've had way more than enough of Philomela and her indecisiveness this season, and I mean both parts.

Having almost the entire plot centered around her for so many episodes has slowed everything to a crawl due to Philomela's nature and character.

She was abused and bullied like Chise, we got it. It has been drilled in our heads ad nauseam. But after 21 freaking episodes she's still all "I don't know what I want", "I need granny to praise me", "I am not allowed X, Y or Z".

Focusing everything on a character with near zero development made the entire season slow to a crawl, since the plot directly depends on Philomela waking the frack up. But she's at the brink of death and still behaves the same.

As for her artificial fairy she sure made quite a hell of a job protecting her from the hag. She never lifted a single finger despite being created solely to protect Philomela. Was she unable or unwilling to protect her from the hag? I suppose she was unable.
Quite a disappointing season...

I feel like this anime was made for me, all the bs that happened was not within my power as a smol child who is barely a teenager. But damn yea if only we could do something about it during those times. Getting rid of those memories and moving on takes time.

Behold of my awesomeness~

I miss those days when Philomela wasn't used to be a part of this series.

All this journey of self discovery, and she's still the same smh.

Interesting episode, i thought how they handled what was essentially a group theory and trauma dump session pretty well. I'm honestly a bit shocked that Chise and Philomela have only just realised that they aren't so different with their traumatic pasts and how hand in hand they both are.
I do wish the Chise and Philomela's one to one could've lasted a little longer, and more of Chise past was shown to Philomela to show that Chise was 100% the person to rely on for help in Philomela's position since Chise was able to move along with her past. Though i guess seeing Isaac and Lucy also come into the scene was ok i guess, through it we got to see the real truth behind the Webster's incident which was pretty big.

Next episode it actually seems like they're gonna give backstory to the Grandmother and explain her character a bit more, which from a story telling perspective is great since it'll hopefully flesh out her character more then the black and white we see now, although i feel like there's a point with an antagonist villain were they've done so much bad shit in the plot that they're close to irredeemable even with backstory shown.

Damn, the last episode was already a banger, but this one topped it :)

Philomela's grandma is just sick in the head, it's unimaginable how you can be like that. Philomela and Chise are very similar, with the only difference that Chise was able to find happiness and move on with her life. I hope Philomela finds her own happiness too.

The female werewolf is freed by Zoe and she calls him her god for removing her curse. We see Zoe momentarily tap into his ancient lineage and draw out power that he never had before. The poor wolf's reaction to her freedom makes me think that he cubs never survived to begin with and she was under the witch bitch's influence the whole time, working for the freedom of her young that no longer exist. I'm so happy she's free and I hope I'm wrong about her cubs and she goes and finds them soon. She might just decide to end it all by attacking the whore bitch old fuck shitbag and that's something I can see the author doing.

Alcyone the GOAT had Philomela's soul in tow. Alcyone returns the piece of Philomela's soul that she had hidden within herself in hopes of stopping her disintegration but it's not enough. I want her to show Philomela the memories she recorded!!!! Please!

I love how everyone in this show relies on their sense of smell. It's a sense that almost always overlooked in visual media and I'm glad this show has it even though the source material is not a novel.

THIS IS SO FUCKED UP! I can't even blame Philomela for anything she did. She was beaten and tortured and manipulated and hypnotized and her last bastion of freedom was in her own mind. She did everything she could to not end up like those werewolves but nothing she did was ever enough. I haven't been this enraged at an anime villain in a long time.

I love Chise bro! I've never seen fear portrayed like this before.

I love the parallels between Chise and Philomela.

We get Isaac's backstory.

Cute spiders.

There was so much in this episode that I don't have time to talk about cause I need to see the next episode asap. This is the episode that solidifies this season as a 10/10 for me.
