Telecaster on the cover, they seem to have good taste.

I'm looking forward to it.

The main thing is that it should not be meaningless CGDCT or waifu bait. I can't stand it when original shows are basically just another genre show without manga or LN.

Well, when was it different? As soon as you get some undeniable hit, next year at least a third of the studios try to repeat your success, if not with the same plot, then at least with the same genre and setting. Think of the wave of dark maho shoujo after Madoka or the current dark fantasy shonen trend after JJK and Fire Force.

That title and visual is giving me more "Beck" vibes than Bocchi. I'm more concerned about it being a Toei project, if anything. Can't say I'm a huge fan of their originals from my experience, lol.

Another music anime, eh? I hope it won't be just a clone of Bocci, but something original and fresh enough to be considered as a fully separate show. But to be fair, I don't think I will watch it myself. xD

I suppose I'd like to think that this was already an idea before Bocchi The Rock became a big thing, at least then it would seem somewhat more inspired. Although be that as it may, a girls band anime, isn't exactly the most creative setting.

I guess I'll just have to wait for more information to come out, to see what this will be like.

apparently this isn't an attempt to ride the Bocchi wave, it was planned since 2021

I do understand the concern of some of the other commenters regarding the potential for Girls Band Cry to be just another clone of Bocchi The Rock. It's important for original shows to bring something new to the table and not rely solely on the success of similar shows in the same genre.

It reminded me of the early 10s when people called every new show SAO or AoT clones, because those were the most popular adventure anime at the time.

Why are so many people concerned about this being a "Bocchi clone"? It would be the first one we'd get anyway, considering Girls Forming a Band isn't a new idea at all in anime.
It'd need both that and the social anxiety approach to call it a Bocchi clone and we really don't have any info on this yet.

Is this trying to cash in on Bocchi's success? Well, it's Toei Animation, so the answer is probably "most likely", but they can still take a different approach. Hopefully.

That's what I thought, too! If it gives me the Beck vibe, I'm sure going to be invested.

This thread must be an embarrassing memento for those who posted...

First of all, GBC couldn't be a "bocchi-clone" even if it tried, since TOEI's "Girls in the Cry" (Project Alnair) started in early 2019. At that time, there was just one tankobon volume of BTR manga published and its anime adaptation wasn't considered yet!

Furthermore, the original story anime Girls Band Cry became a big hit throughout Asia, won accolades for its highly expressive 3D-CGI, script, characters and music. The fandom, as well as commercial interest in collabs remain strong, even gaining traction during the past few weeks. The associated Togenashi Togeari band, whose members also acted as seiyuu in GBC, keep performing live in Japan, China, S.K., Taiwan and even L.A., USA this July.
