As someone who has not seen a lot of anime yet and just got into anime last year in 2020, what are the best anime from the 1990's in your opinion? I have seen and enjoyed Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Trigun, Record Of Lodoss War, both the OVA and the TV series, and The Vision Of Escaflowne. I have tried and did not like Dragon Ball Z and Yu Yu Hakusho.

It is hard to decide, 90s are full of great stuff...

DBZ, Sailor Moon, Slayers, Evangelion, Pokemon, Yu Yu Hakusho...

It is impossible to choose when everything is amazing, but I guess DBZ and Pokemon were most fun to me.

I still should try out Slayers again and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Although technically DBZ is an 80s work since it debuted in 1989.

Turn A Gundam and Ghost in the Shell are my favorites.
A relatively obscure one I like a lot is Dual Parellel something (please guys, name your shit better). It's kinda like a spoof of evangelion and it's incredibly fun.

Great Teacher Onizuka, Berserk, Doremi and Perfect Blue are the ones I liked a lot, the first being my fav anime at the time I watched it.

I also really liked the Trust and Betrayal OVA from Rurouni Kenshin, but my lazy ass still hasn't gotten to watch the TV series.

How did you get into the mech anime? The only Mecha anime I have seen is The Vision Of Escaflowne and I like it but it is a fantasy anime not like other Mecha anime that are out there.
I got into Mecha anime because Super Robot Wars gameplay in YouTube. They have a LOT of Mecha series in that game (like Mazinger, Getter Robo, Gundam, Gurren Lagann, Code Geass, etc)

Kenpuu Denki Berserk, though Evangelion is a close second.

If we're to include anime from the 80s that still aired in the 90s though, then it's undoubtedly Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

1. Princess Mononoke
Ofc I'm really nostalgic towards it, but that's not even the reason why I love it so much. It still holds up, when I rewatch it nowadays.
Nonetheless, I'm very nostalgic towards it and also Ashitaka and San were my first OTP, I think lol.

2. The first Pokemon movie
Biased and nostalgic, but even without bias Mewtwo's story is pretty good.
Still, I'm just biased.

3. Digimon Adventure & movie
Again: Biased af.
Because I treasure it a lot as a memory. It's not that grrat, if you rewatch it, but by means of a children series it's still pretty good.

Others I like:
- Neon Genesis Evangelion
- His and Her Circumstances
- Cowboy Bebop
- Lodoss-tou Senki
- Utena
- Perfect Blue
- Ghost in the Shell
- Ponpoko
- Whisper of the Heart
- Ie Naki Ko Remy
- Here and There, Now and Then
- Slayers
- Sailor Moon
- Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne
- Magic Knight Rayearth
- Cardcaptor Sakura
- Only Yesterday

The obvious highlights for me are the hard-to-understand but unbelievably brilliant and revelatory trio of Evangelion, Utena and Lain.

Kodocha and KareKano are also absolutely unmissable. (They both tail off eventually, but the early arcs are incredible.)

Nadesico is extremely good. Nadia is something any anime fan should probably be familiar with. And if you're in the mood for something utterly serious and completely not fun, Now and Then, Here and There is unmatched in that area.
