Funny enough it was SAO for me followed by FMA 2003. I do not mind being a weeb though I keep quiet about it at work.

Kanokon did when I was 15 years old. But anime would not be on my radar if my older sister didn't show me Cardcaptor Sakura when I was 6.

I want to crossdress and fuck while wearing a magical girl costume because of what my sister showed me. I needed Kanokon to realize it that I was degenerate.

Probably kinda cliche but AoT for me. Before watching that show, I just thought anime was about loli's and anime titties. And while that is still present, AoT opened my eyes to the possibility of the type of stories in the medium.

Assassination Classroom on Youtube.
The first anime I sought out.

『ᴅᴇᴍᴏɴ-ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴊᴜᴅɢᴇ ᴏꜰ ꜰɪʀᴇ』

Lol. I am glad to find that there is more to anime than meets the eye. Stories like fma, Steins;Gate, the promised neverland, and made in abyss I never thought would exist in the medium that is anime.

Probably Lucky Star when it first aired back in 2007. There was no turning back at that point.

I got into anime back in 2017. I was watching ONLY Dragon Ball Super. To me, at that time, ANIME is just Dragon Ball, nothing else. So I'm only thinking about Dragon ball all day every day. So Dragon Ball, my first anime, made me an otaku.

Now I'm watching all kinds of anime. I watched 85+ shows at the time I was writing this.

I was expecting some kind of degnerate stuff when I watched Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, but what I ended up with was one of the most comfiest anime I've ever watched and it really opened my eyes to the power of Slice-of-Life anime.

The 90s and early 00s Ghibli movies hooked me into anime, Tokyo Ghoul manga, irregular at Magic Highschool LNs, and DxD LNs for written were what hooked me there. There were other things but those stand out as the things that I got enthralled by the most, I think it was a process more than an instant single event. Many others added to the obsession though.

For me, probably Urusei Yatsura and Ranma (I'm showing my age). But probably what first 'primed' me was Gatchaman (Battle of the Planets) when it was on TV in the (gulp) 70s, so when Robotech came out, and then other anime in the late 80s/early 90s, I was already familiar. Also JRPGs such as the Dragon Quest (Warrior), Final Fantasy, and especially (for me) Phantasy Star series.

Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo.

I'm a bit like a mild hikikomori(I just finished NHK ni Youkoso). I somehow stumbled upon "The ultimate anime recommendation flowchart" on r/anime. I chose something calm and warm there: Sakurasou. When it ended, I felt the emptiness feeling. I knew it was how animes work: they make you feel empty so you watch again to feel better. But knowing this didn't solve anything. I still didn't have a life. So I became a mild otaku.

HunterxHunter
Eyeshield 21
Yu yu Hakusho
Shaman King
Recca no Honnou
Sailor Moon
Cardcaptor Sakura
Alice Gakuen
Prince of Tennis
Gintama

This is that era when I watched these shows that nothing is labeled underrated or overrated, no one would rate shows or even put some genres...I dont even know that such a person who loves watching them is called otaku. Back then, it was just always for enjoyment, fun, and entertainment. Back then it was just anime. no fans, no communities, no debates.

Spice and Wolf, I tried getting into it before this anime even watched some anime I thought were amazing before Spice and Wolf like Higurashi but those never gave me the drive to go full throttle like Spice and Wolf. I felt left out of my friend group too at first since everyone around me loved anime IRL and online friends.

Complete otaku? I see a bunch of people naming some of their first anime and stuff, so for me the show that first introduced me into this wonderful world of anime was Voltes V.

Though the show that completely hooked me into anime is hard to say. I think it's just the combination of show's I've watched that really got me invested. Though my favorite show of all time would definitely have to be K-On!!

I guess it's Card Captor Sakura, because that show made me do more research on the creators and tried to watch another anime by them. One of them is Kobato, that made me learn about seasonal anime and led me into watching anime regularly at some point.

My brother had been nagging me for months to watch Fairy Tail because he wanted to get me into anime so i could talk ab it with him. I got tired of his nagging and watched the first episode just to shut him up. I watched the whole anime within a few months and started watching seven deadly sins (again at his reccomendation) and then HxH (which i found on my own, if that anime ever starts again i will be so happy) and fast foward two years i have watched 60+ anime (more than him) and he regrets getting me into anime cuz now im completely obssessed. Im watching One Piece now, nearing the 600 mark and im still loving it! Fairy Tail will always have a special place in my heart as my first anime.

P.s. sorry for the waffling, i do that a lot.

Darling in the Franxx. The Romance aspect of that anime made me wanting more from any other anime shows., and the vibe that Darling in the Franxx gave me an idea of how nice of a feeling that anime could bring.
