Are you overwhelmed by how many anime you need to catch up on?

I wish I caught up with all the seasons since I joined at the very least.

Do you wish you were caught up?

(Not every single anime, but the ones you're interested in.)

Sometimes i feel like i really want to see this [X] show, but after starting watching it, i immediately drop my interest and want to watch this [Y] show, but i don't wanna drop [X], and seeing if it's 1-cour i would likely watch slower than i did back then, and i usually finish it a week. But if it's only 1-cour.

I'm struggling to start watching 2-cour anime because i have to stick with it for a long period. Most of my completed anime is 1-cour tho.

Nah, it's not like I'll be dead tomorrow. And if I'll be, I certainly wouldn't spend my last day watching anime anyway.

Not really. Seeing my huge plan to watch list just makes me excited to watch those shows in the future.

Definitely. TBH i started watching anime properly at the end of 2019 before then I only had watched dragon ball and when I searched for similar anime I found Bleach, Naruto and Tokyo ghoul which was my trigger to bring me into the otaku culture. Now I'm overwhelmed with many animes and mangas to watch and read.

Not really. I prefer to watch it when I want to and not feeling "obligated" to catch up, but I do plan to watch some

Yes I have much to catch up on and they keep making new shows. I’m a late bloomer.

I guess so. The amount seems to be increasing as the years go by, and it feels like it never ends. There's like 900 new anime a year nowadays. Add on your backlog and overwhelming is one word to use. I do wish the industry would stop pumping out so much. I'm sure most would say the more, the better, but I'd prefer quality over quantity.

I wanted to stay up to date with all the seasonal stuff, but then I have to go back to like 50-100 previous seasons and catch up on shows. It's too much of a hassle, so I just focus on a couple of series at a time and come back one day to shows that have recently aired.

It's good that I have so much anime that needs watching, according to anime.plus, I've finished 10% of all anime, so I have another 15k+ to go. Meaning I have years of content to look forward to watching.

Yes because I just wanna watch when the show is fully aired so I don't have to wait. But since holiday is coming up I will watch most of the shows from the summer.

Not overwhelmed exactly. I don't feel committed to watching all anime, but I know there are plenty of great ones out there for me that I haven't seen yet. I wish I could just sit down and watch them all with intense interest/focus, but my desire to watch anime waxes and wanes. I have some awesome shows ready to watch right now, but other things in my life and interests outside anime keep me from enjoying them at the moment. I know I'll have to take my time, but life is unpredictable, so who knows how much time I'll have to see these amazing/beautiful things?

I suppose the situation drives home a point for me. There are only so many hours in a day. Life is short. I still won't be able to do everything I'd possibly want even if I win the lotto jackpot tomorrow, anime or otherwise. It leads to a feeling of something like "mono no aware" in my everyday life, but also more gratitude for the things I get to enjoy.

Yeah, pretty much. I'm hoping to at least finish 50 anime by the end of this year, but I'm only half way done.

I wish I could like it or get hooked on it, yet every season I don't even register shows I drop in spite of seasonal anime being a goddamn great idea, a few episodes per week absorb less time than going in a rabbit hole on catching up on old anime, obscure anime and whatnot

Yes, definitely. Ever since I got into university, I started feeling overwhelmed by anime. I used to be able to watch 12ep in a day, now I barely watch 3. Looking at the seasonal anime, plan to watch list, and on-hold anime just makes super overwhelmed. It’s becoming so time-consuming even though it’s only 20m episodes.

I don't really get why people feel the "need" to catch up to series.
They are supposed to be something you watch to feel relaxed, pure enjoyment.

Once you start feeling that you "need" to do anything that's a hobby, then you maybe need to take a break from it!

not really despite the large on-hold list, caring too much about catching up makes you less productive so I tend not to think too much about it and just watch what I wanna watch at that moment

Nah. I've basically just accepted that I'll never finish a lot of things and move on to something else. I'll probably never finish Attack on Titan, Initial D or Pokémon and I'm almost certainly never gonna explore Gundam. Not that I don't want to, I just don't have the time any more, but that's okay.

I never watch shows when they are airing. And the last season that just finished had quite a few amount of shows that I'm interested in.

No. I'll get to the anime I'm interested in when I get to it. I stopped picking up a bunch of seasonals and went back to my roots: I'm in no rush to be up to date with anime.

Not really. Sure, there are anime I want to watch at some point, but I don't really put myself under pressure to do that as soon as possible. If I feel the need to watch them, I'll do it. I've always been a bit of a slow watcher after all.

I get overwhelmed by seasonals, specifically. I’ll get busy with real world shit and then realize I’m somehow two episodes behind instead of one. If I know I can avoid spoilers then I’ll let a handful of episodes collect. But by doing this, I’ll jump back in and not remember what the hell is going on. I also don’t enjoy being in the middle of a series and having to take periodic breaks just to watch one episode of something random. Seasonals are chaos to me. Idk, I’m a person who likes constant structure and having the ability to binge watch.

Winter 2021 is going to be an absolute nightmare for me. I have about six shows in my PTW (so far). Plus, there is no way I’m going to get around AoT spoilers, so I have no choice but to watch that one weekly.

I feel overwhelmed all the time. But it's also nice to always have something to look forward to.

I'm also in a discord with a lot of friends who enjoy anime so I feel like someone might spoil seasonal shows if I fall behind.
I usually only watch 5-10 airing Anime per season though so it's not too hard to keep up with those.
