We all know a lot of anime adaptations from manga can be quite mediocre in comparison. However, the one genre I feel is almost always better in anime form is music. It's one thing to imagine a song in your head, but actually hearing it makes the experience much more immersive in my opinion.

What is your favorite performance in anime? Obviously it doesn't need to be from an anime where music is the vocal point. And to demonstrate that, I present you with one of my favorite performances from Gosenzo-sama Banbanzai!

-Devilman crybaby's music was awesome and understood very well the anime, its music was recognized but also controversial but imo, it's one of the best OST in animes.

-Hunter x hunter 2011, On the other hand, its music is great but wasn't very recognized, probably because there's a lot of episodes so you don't get all the music in a few episodes, and it's opening didn't change for 150 episodes.

-Durarara, there as well, the music is diversified, adapted to the feel of the anime and very well used by the director. And the whole OST was composed by the same guy !

-LOTGH, Not ost but it uses a lot of classical music, and very well at that. As someone passionate of it, how happy was I when I heard some of the most intense moments of gustav mahler's symphonies in some of the most dramatic scenes of the series. Throughout the whole series, the music is great and very well adapted to the scenes.

There's probably other great ones but these ones are the first to come in mind, the greatest to me in terms of music.

Symphogear has some pretty dope songs that the characters all have to sing mid-fight to power their battle suits. The voice cast is all mainly composed of big name actresses and singers so the performances themselves rarely ever disappoint and it does give the show a very unique aesthetic; one I've rarely ever seen in anime. Only other anime I know of with that kind of thing going on is Macross.

Literally every performance from Hibike! Euphonium and its sequels. I personally find them stunning.

I've watched Mafuya's Song from Given a few times. The singer really emoted well the heartache of the song.

I absolutely love Bink's Sake from One Piece

And I never tired of The Vepper song by the Beppu Twins from Binan Earth Defence Club Happy Love. It's very catchy (Unfortunately can't find the version from the actual anime)

(Youtube linking doesn't work for it :( )

And then there is this stunning piece from Kono Oto Tomare! Sounds of Life. I've not seen the anime yet but this has me excited to get around to it.

Chopin's First Ballade performed by Arima in Your Lie in April - You know why if you know why.

I also really enjoyed Hero Too in My Hero Academia Season 4 which is really fun and has a really great message that goes with it as we see flash backs from Jiro's life that for me made her for from like a C/D tier character to A/B

Chiaki playing Rachmaninov's piano concerto no. 2 from Nodame Cantabile.

It's actually an unbelievably powerful piece to begin with, plus the anime did it justice. Seeing people in the crowd with tears/dying from amazement is also hilarious.

I know it's a normie choice. But I really liked the final performance from Your Lie In April!! It was a really emotional time for me, and my attachment to Kaori really kicked me in the ass. But man.. Was it pretty.

Konya wa hurricane by the one and only Priss from Bubblegum Crisis.
In no hurry to shout performance at rock horizon.

Also I would like to put in here Neo Central Park rock-illusion ''Super Sugee Festival'' concert from Hinamatsuri manga chapter 97. I actually heard the music and I flew so high. Rock-illusion is the best

Every performance in Nodame Cantabile was amazing. I also get chills every time I hear the Given op.

How can they see the love in our eyes
And still, they don't believe us?
And after all this time
They don't want to believe us

+1 Fuyunohanashi from Given and Tenkyu from Kono Oto Tomare. both really good, emotional, and satisfying final performances

My pick is Mirai Ticket, from the first season of Love Live! Sunshine. It's not a sad song, but there's an emotional factor of "omg my girls... they've come so far they grow up so fast" for me, so even listening to it on streaming over and over is a tearjerker
The full animated portion isn't up on youtube, but the live concert vers is just as good (skip to like 5:20 for the actual song to start)

I wish I could find a version of this video with video as well as audio, but audio alone is good enough. The singalong of Country Roads from the English dub of Whisper of the Heart. I absolutely love hyper-real spontaneous singalongs like this in fiction.

A few people have mentioned some performances in Your Lie in April, but the one I want to highlight is Emi's performance of Winter Wind (Chopin's etude op.25 no.11). The animation is amazing and so is the actual performance (all the songs featured in the anime were played by real professional pianists), and it fit the mood that the creators wanted to establish within the episode.
