This recently happened to me with Dagashi Kashi.
I'm not sure where, but recently I came across this anime's name on MAL and when i read it out aloud, it just rolled off the tongue soo smoothly i was immediately intrigued by it and decided to check it out without a second thought.

Yepp! I ended up watching an anime JUST because it's title sounded very smooth and graceful.
(and I normally decide what to watch based on premise, hype and genres covered)

Have you guys ever strayed from your usual way of finding an anime to watch and started watching something because of weird/absurd reasons?

Crystal Triangle because why not? Seeing the title is enough to make me watch it.

I guess for me its: WorldEnd: What do you do at the end of the world? Are you busy? Will you save us? or its japanese name Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasu ka? Isogashii Desu ka? Sukutte Moratte Ii Desu ka?
started to watch it because the name was long and back then i told my self that anime with long names probably will be good :D weird ha

I saw One Room while scrolling on Crunchyroll, man it’s fun to watch with other people, but I tried watching it by myself but I was just so uncomfortable lol, I guess the weird part of me watching was cause I was intrigued to see a visual novel as a anime.

My sources for anime typically vary. Most of the time I find out about certain shows through recommendations for YouTube videos. Most of the animes I watch are shows that I typically find out through advertisements or mentions on the internet. One show that I watched as of recently for unusual reasons is Masou Gakuen HxH. It's an ecchi and action anime. I don't typically watch a lot of ecchi anime, but as of recently I've been showing more interest in the genre. I watched it because I was curious about the level of ecchi content in the series after reading the description of it.

I started watching Fire Force because I saw the main guy, Shinra, in a hentai video on Pornhub. Since the person who posted the video wasn't the one who made the animation and I had never seen the show before, I looked up that name because I thought the name of the creator might have been in the title, but the show came up instead. I watched it when I was done with "stuff" and now it's one of my favorite shows ^-^

I watched a couple of anime because they had android girls in them
Neo Ranga because someone on /m/ posted some art of the main characters with some cool tattoos which is false advertising if you have seen the show
cipher because tonegawa's narrator was in it and not because of the meme yt video that most are familiar with

I was doing a book report for The Kite Runner when I stumbled upon the anime, A Kite. In no way related to the book, the OVA caught my eye so I put it on my watchlist. Needless to say, it was quite different from what I usually watch.

Strangest reasons I could think of:

Hataraku Saibou! – to study for a biology test about the human body (probably not that strange considering that's what the anime is about but I guess studying is an unusual reason to start in general)

Steins;Gate – I was reading a MAL article about the greatest anime of all time or something and on S;G it said something along the lines of "You'll know once you've seen it. If you haven't, go watch it now!" and so I did. Binged it in one go, still one of my favourites to this day.

OniAi – Because of the fanservicey opening...

I watched every JoJos part after watching ONE scene from part 3.

The scene with Kakyoin and Dio on the staircase. A YouTuber made a video and mentioned it and I just couldn’t help but laugh watching it it looked so ridiculous I started watching that day.

I didn't know anything about it but its name stylization was enough to make me want to watch it. Surprisingly it was quite good. For the first season.

Sometimes i just start watching an anime because i like a certain voice actor and i want to hear his voice.
That’s how i started watching Kimi to Boku (just one of many examples). Wouldn’t have started watching it normally I guess but I ended up enjoying it a lot.

I'm pretty sure I watched Free! because a friend specifically told me not to, and surprisingly, I ended up loving it. Haven't seen it in years though.

There's also Ange Vierge, which I watched one episode of because I saw an episode of a now-defunct podcast where they were going through the first episodes of every anime from Summer 2016 and one of the hosts went on a whole rant about how amazingly shite this show was. I was just like "I have to know."

First thought: Twinkle Nora Rock Me!. I decided to watch it after seeing that unfamous "dancing" scene with poor animation looking more than a slideshow than actual animation to be honest. I wanted to see if the rest of it was that bad as people say.

And it happened to be even worse, lmao.

I watched Hibike Euphonium because Kumiko's hair is cute. Can't say I enjoyed the series that much, but she was still cute all the way through.
Who are you and why do you show your hostility towards a complete stranger whom you've not once spoken with before. Are you seriously asking to get blocked? Well, if that's what your intent is; to tempt me into throwing hands with someone as lowly and insignificant as you, then i may grant your wish provided you articulate yourself a bit better when trying to spite a person of my wavelength.

A Place Further Than The Universe, or Sora yori mo tooi Basho; it was the highest rated anime on an online Japanese site that I heard was the closest Japanese equivalent to MAL, so I wanted to get a sense of the taste from the Japanese audience, and apparently this was the highest rated at the time I visited, with Steins;Gate being second, though I had already watched the latter, so I decided to give it a try. Happy to say, it did not disappoint, and is one of the lighter heart anime that I've watched, about a group of girls who wish to go to Antarctica being its main premise. Personally I think it should've been longer than it was (12 episodes I think?), and maybe they should've made some OVA spinoffs of it, as I did thoroughly like the cast by the end, so I wanted to see more of them and possible side journeys or events of theirs.
"I saw the Emperor - this soul of the world - go out from the city to survey his reign; it is a truly wonderful sensation to see such an individual, who, concentrating on one point while seated on a horse, stretches over the world and dominates it."

I watched Kennel Tokorozawa because I couldn't believe the Japanese would produce soft porn from the POV of a German Shepard who wants to hump his mistress. They did. We'll never reach that cultural level in the West.
