THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Luke has that weird aura but also a very intimidating presence in this episode.

The duel is ok, if anything Yuuga knows how to make an impact on his moves. Luke's deck reminds me of Seto Kaiba with the dragons. He seems to have a fairly straightforward duel style.

Yeah this episode felt kind of filler-y. Not much really went on aside from a small little dispute between Rook and Yuga. And the duel was the weakest part. I hoped with a new animation studio they would be able to capture that dynamic flashiness of the old YGO duels but a lot of the action felt kind of static. They reused Seven Road animation and the only new one was Dragears. It also feels weird going from the complex duels to these duels. They're really basic and kind of unexciting. Overall still just an ok show.

I like how everyone react like Rush Duel is the best thing ever, Konami really push this format. But I think at some point there'll play the normal format (with a mix of rush duel card), or a new format that combine both rush duel card and other cards together.

And Rook is so innocent! So Chuunibyou... wait, Chuunibyou usually describe teenagers, but Rook is still in elementary school.

Rook uses dragons? Instantly my fave duelist. I love me some dragons.

The over-the-top comedy was toned down compared to last episode, but I still had fun.

I'm liking rook so far. Aside from that, These rush duels so far have been average. But maybe I'm used to the more complex normal duels. The episode felt like filler, and the result of the duel didn't matter in the end which made the entire thing pointless.

I don't think that's possible. rush duel format and the normal format work differently.

I realized it's very unlikely that Konami will introduce another new format in the same arc, but reverting back to normal format is maybe possible. I read that rush duel require only rush card but I haven't read a prohibition that normal format can't use rush card.

you can't use normal cards in rush duel format irl and the reverse. the normal format works with traditional rules, and rush duel format has it's own rules so it makes sense for them to be separate from each other.

Yeah, it'll take some time for people to REALLY come around with this entry. It's just too different for em; not to their tastes either. All that matters is that there are people enjoying this in the end no matter the contrary. 🤗

Hikokubo's 100 LP shtick is kind of getting old but I guess they can't do much with until they added extra deck monsters or the other summoning methods. Damn, they should increase the LP to 8000 already.

All in all, the entire episode flows surprisingly well and is totally not a chore to watch unlike you-know-what.

Interesting. I haven't done any research into this and didn't realise there were cards specifically for Rush Duels. I just saw the format and thought they were trying to get the show and mobile games like Duel Links more in sync.

I was really on the fence with the premiere but this episode was a bit better. I definitely think the series has been simplified a lot to draw in the younger generation. Especially with the Goha Corporation reminding me of Team Rocket Grunts with their masks and uniforms and the Star Wars-esque theme that played when the Goha President was onscreen.

It's way too early to say if this change is good or bad. It's just new and it will take some time to get used to.

Well, its good episode (to another presenting the new rush duel tho) but the animation's quality is little bit decreased. (For me tbh)

It was pretty well animated too.

Honestly, why this show is rated 6.03/10 is beyond me. I like how not serious everything is, and the fact that the main character can actually lose duels. When the fate of the world depends on a children's card game, you know prota-kun isn't going to lose. Gets boring really quick. Doesn't happen with this show, though. At least not yet.

So far I'm hooked.

Might be filler, but you gotta explain some things at some point, and it really showed. As it really gives off that interesting feeling because of 'Adding Rush duels compared to normal duels.' It really shows how strict this city has become when it comes to dueling, and the idea of Rush duels is to make it more fun.

People are judging it far too quickly when it hasn't even gotten out the first season's story fully. Plus some just really prefer the overall serious Yugioh, compared to 'it looking more for kids.' and are basically throwing the show under the bus before giving it a chance. While I doubt this will be an amazing show, but it's still fun and good. People just need to give it a shot.

This episode has way less hype than the last though so I hope the next is better.

Too sad that this show gets more hate than it deserves.

I really like the concept of Rush Duels and so far this new anime was very entertaining, I hope it keeps it up like that. 7/10 so far, SEVENS
Trying to watch all available anime series so you won't have to anymore, the list of anime I can recommend is still in progress, tho

That's cause the anime is set up similar to Zexal, it feels too "kids-ly"

Even tho that was what Yu-Gi-Oh originally is suppose to be, kids card game.

That's the whole reason why a lot of Yu-Gi-Oh arc/series tends to be a bit more "teen/mature" feel.

And the whole reason why certain arc/series have lower ratings.

Yu-Gi-Oh is basically going like this:
Kid - teen - teen - teen - kid - teen - teen - kid

Original - kids
Original/ Duel Monster - teen (added in lots of shadow realm/ evil)
GX - same universe as OG, but with a teenager as MC
5D - up the mature level with bikes, teenagers and slums (realistic poor people living)
Zexal - goes back down to kid as MC
Arc-V - still mostly a Kid MC, but is a mixture of different universes
VRAINS - VR anyone? teen MC again, and this time even more drama and real world impact
SEVENS - kid MC again with school life, little drama, for now at least

The Yu-Gi-Oh authors realized this back in Duel Monsters, people tends to like mature-feel compared to kids-feel, and it gets more popularity and mech sales. That was the reason why they tried 5D, to see if ppls likes the heavy darker toned world. (after they're done with the original universe)

I gave the show a try a while back, but I got very tired of Yuga just shilling the new Rush Duel game (I'm not calling it an alternate format or something, it's a replacement.)

Though I'll admit, I actually really liked ZeXal, then again it got a lot better later on, and I found to be a surprisingly mature show when you get past the first impressions.

Yuga tells Luke to go.
LMAO Luke just goes.
Lol Its just a hologram.
Luke tells Yuga to keep it a secret.
Yuga is talking to his classmates about RD.
Gakuto appears.
Luke used his powers.
Pauli effect?
Yuga vs Luke.

Yuga losing already. lol I am surprised as fock that a spinoff inserted an historical real life person. The original manga did this and if I recall, the original 1998 Yugioh anime did as well. DM removed the manga dialogue that mentioned a real life person. And the spinoffs followed suit... until now. This is 2 episodes in a row SEVENS has done something like the original manga. As a Yugioh fan that prioritizes the Yugioh manga (the holy bible) over everything else in the series... I am impressed.

Please do not listen to that liar amlg. The original Yugioh manga was never intended for children or meant to be a kids card game. It was for teens. Yuugi Ou means Game King. Not card game king. The manga was about a hero defeating villains playing many different games. Card games entered the plot after fans requested to see more of it after it debuted in chapter 10. Takahashi reworked the series to include card games, but also still played other games after the card game arcs. He never strayed from the title of series unlike the spinoff anime did. The manga had light moments like any series would but it was very dark because it was aiming for horror. The amount of things that happened in the manga had to be censored or not adapted on TV for the 1998 anime because it aired at 6:30 PM. There was fanservice (such as upskirts to see panties repeatedly, motorboats, and a pool chapter), a serial killer (think Jason/leatherface), street/gang fights, physical violence with items briefcases/glass shard to the face and deadly Yoyo's, knives were used to kill people, guns pointed pointblank at a characters head multiple times and to their face and laser guns, characters getting burned alive multiple times, death (suicide included and mind controlling a character to suicide when they wake up, penalty games) and blood. Also, putting up the middle finger and knocking a girl out with chloroform to do lewd things with her (you know). The original 1998 anime did censor a few things, but it retained the spirit of the manga. Duel Monsters aired at 7:30 PM  then switched to 6:30 PM in the latter half. Because of the Konami influence to sell the card game, it had to be neutered. Of course, DM was adapting the manga so there was some things they had no choice to show, but overall, the 1998 anime kept the teen feeling. DM was kids or rather 12 and up (because of the Konami card game age limit) in Japan. No Yugioh spinoff compares to the original manga and the 1998 anime. 5D's is worthy enough to be mentioned, but its held back by playing card games.

first episode was a good start then there were a few moments this ep where its seemed like they skimped on the animation, not that gallop's animation was flawless.
I know the reception to this was generally pretty good (despite overall "lack of interest" in the rush format irl...although I feel like they set it up to fail!). So I'm definitely gonna stick with it and hopefully enjoy it and get more into it further in!

Luke is kind of unhinged, hope he keeps that up. I am glad to see a protagonist losing so early on, and it was kind of funny that Luke actually thought he did it on purpose.
