The Bleach 20th Anniversary Project & Tite Kubo New Project Presentation livestream announced on Saturday that the anime series is making a return. The new anime will adapt the final manga arc, Sennen Kessen-hen (Thousand-Year Blood War arc), which spans from the 55th to the 74th volume. The announcement commemorating the manga's 20th anniversary comes approximately eight years after the last anime episode aired in 2012.

Synopsis
A paranormal action-adventure about sword-wielding guardians of the afterlife.

Ichigo Kurosaki never asked for the ability to see ghosts—he was born with the gift. When his family is attacked by a Hollow—a malevolent lost soul—Ichigo becomes a Shinigami, dedicating his life to protecting the innocent and helping the tortured spirits themselves find peace.

The peace is suddenly broken when warning sirens blare through the Soul Society. Residents there are disappearing without a trace, and nobody knows who's behind it. Meanwhile, a dark shadow is also extending itself toward Ichigo and his friends in Karakura Town.

When a mysterious group of warriors calling themselves the Wandenreich attacks, Ichigo Kurosaki heads to Hueco Mundo to help his friend Nel Tu. And when the Wandenreich takes the fight to Soul Society, an all-out war between Shinigami and Quincy breaks out! (Source: VIZ Media, edited)

Prior to serialization, Tite Kubo published a pilot chapter in December 2000. The supernatural adventure manga debuted in Weekly Shounen Jump in August 2001. After a 15-year serialization, Kubo ended the series in August 2016. Shueisha published the 74th and final volume in November that year. Bleach has a cumulative 120 million copies of its compiled volumes in print worldwide.

The television anime series produced by Studio Pierrot began airing in Fall 2004 and ended with 366 episodes in Winter 2012, covering the first 54 volumes. The manga also inspired two Jump Festa specials in June 2005 and March 2006, and four anime films in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010 December.

VIZ Media acquired the series' master license in March 2006 and serialized the manga in English in its print edition of Shounen Jump magazine between November 2007 and March 2012. The manga concurrently moved to the Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha digital anthology in January 2012. The company published the 74th and final volume in October 2018 and released the 26th home video installment of the anime in September 2015.

A live-action film adaptation produced by Warner Bros. Japan opened in Japan in July 2018. Directed by Shinsuke Satou (Gantz, I Am a Hero), the film grossed over 541 million yen (approximately US$4.9 million).

Bleach won the 50th Shogakukan Manga Award in the Shounen division in 2005.

Well, i guess i can wait for 2021. At least it gives them plenty of time to work on it. Hope to see a big finale! Can't wait for this arc!

What a time to be alive.

I remember signing one of those shitty change.org petitions years ago just hoping for a return somehow lol. This is honestly surreal. We're getting a Burn the Witch movie this year too. I feel blessed.

LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

As much as I hated the way Bleach ended, I can't wait to see this animated and for Bleach to now have a complete adaptation. And maybe they can fix the problems the manga had to allow for a smoother ending that wasn't rushed to hell.

Also, please for the love of god, all I ask is that they bring back the same music composer from the original series. Please.

I remember people talking about how good Bleach was back in middle school, so its decline was pretty sad even for someone who never watched the show (I read a bit of the manga, but that was a while ago). This is super uplifting and nostalgic, I'm really happy for the creator that his work will get a proper end.

I remember when the anime ended.....and then when the manga went for a rushed end or basically cancellation as well.....we were there. We cried. Bleach didnt deserved any of this.

the manga with enough time would have ended very well, proof of this is the novels later that fixed the story to a smooth end.

Anyway. Im glad the fanbase didnt died in all these years. We yearned from Bleach return. We yearned for a fix of the final arc. We yearned and they finally will deliver.

This news not only is a bless for all us Bleach fans, but for anime in general. With enough support a forgotten anime can return.

Last month I went on a huge nostalgia trip down memory lane by watching all the Bleach OPs/EDs and now we are getting the anime adaptation of Bleach's final arc in 2021. That preview trailer looks awesome so 2021 can't come here soon enough.

Welcome back, Bleach! It’s been a bloody long time. Let the classic Waifu Wars return xD.

I’m guessing this’ll air sometime around Summer 2021/Fall 2021 since the manga started serialising in Aug 2001 but I’ve got no qualms with that whatsoever. Still some 200+ chapters to adapt after all.

Pretty sure Studio Pierrot is going to be in charge of this again. To be honest, their track record over the recent years has been pretty unsatisfactory but here’s to hoping they’ll treat this project with extra care. Heck, it is one of the top sellers Bleach after all! I just can’t get enough of the Bankai and sword action scenes of this show, lol.

For now, it’s time to look forward to the Burn the Witch adaption.

"Ichigo becomes a Soul Reaper"

You mean Shinigami (Its said at the end of the synopsis). Soul Reaper is the Viz Media name.

Prior to serialization, Tite Kubo published a pilot chapter in December 2020."

You mean 2000.

It doesn't matter how trash the ending was, there's still some hype moments I'm dying to see animated. That, and if the same composer comes back, then we'll have some more Bleach OSTs!

I remember enjoying watching Bleach on Animax, although I didn't really like it much by the time it reached the end but for the sake of nostalgia, I'm definitely going to watch this, glad to have Ichigo back on screen!

Are the old casts will return to voiced ichigo and friends ?

If yes, it will be a good news, but if not, it will be a bad news because many anime like fruit basket and d gray man must replaced old casts with new casts (however, not apply with english dub because of same studio)

From what I understand they will keep the original voice actors as much as possible. I think we don't know the details yet, but people think it will be the same voices as the Brave Souls game. So there is no need to worry for now.

There is a God after all... I just hope this doesn't sucks. After D.Gray-man Hallow and Toaru Majutsu no Index III, if this ends disappointing me too I'm going to cry...

@ronald_bastian You shouldn't worry much about the anime having a different cast of voice actors. They kept all the available voice actors for the app game Bleach Brave Souls, so I don't think they are going to change them. It would be stupid.

Finally after so many years of waiting.
We will see Bleach last arc animated.
Maybe if we are lucky enough, after the final arc , we can get Can't Fear Your Own World novels animated.

Hope he gets to rewrite the final arc of the manga while at it. With all of my sympathy for Bleach it sucked so so very hard. Not to even mention the open plot points.

Omg, it's actually happening! It's been years! Didn't think they would actually adapt it, given the fall of popularity of the manga, making it get a rushed ending. Damn I remember reading untill some point of the war, then putting in on hold to come more chapters and then never picking it up again opps...Still kinda hyped, having glimpses of the overall plot

I knew in my heart that a big 3 anime wouldn't be left alone like that, it makes perfect business sense to animate it. I'm so happy! The dream came true~

Damn, 20 years already? I feel old.

The anime still seems to be in pre-production. If I had to guess, I'd say It won't be released in early 2021, more likely towards the fall or winter season. Still great news for all the Bleach fans. Here I am hoping, that they'll get a talented staff for this.

Neat, I can watch this trainwreck of an arc with voice acting now! I hope they'll fix all the terrible writing and plot issues Kubo rushed through but odds are they won't.

I'm kind of surprised at all the positive feedback considering the feedback for the last arcs of the manga was the complete opposite of that.
That being said.. the anime can't possibly be worse than the manga. So I guess I understand now.
