Yeah, it's quite difficult to persuade people to dispose of their weapons for a journey in an unknown land. I wonder how this will work out. Nice to see a bit of Thorfinn's journey in Eastern Roman Empire. I hope he gets to explain how he ended up in jail there later on. And who is this guy now?

Wouldn't be surprised if Thorkell had a love child somewhere in Iceland, lol.

The no weapons rule is going to be very interesting for when they reach Vinland.

Am I the only one thinking they won't be travelling in spring?

It feels like something big is about to happen, like Canute appearing for some reason (it's been too long since we saw him).

I don't know why, but I have the feeling that the journey is not near. I wonder if that's the real path the author wants to take to explore and develop his characters and their ideas. I'm expecting some kind of plot twist. (well, that Halvor seems like one... heh)

Aaaaand I want to know about Gudrid and Thorfinn!!!!! How, when it became like this?!

Not bringing any sword sounds so dangerous to me. I mean they may not even reach Vinland if some blockhead crazy war-driven people were to attack or rob them since not only do their crew only have a few people who can fight but they're also not bringing any weapons with them..

Finished the anime maybe 4 days ago, and then spent almost every free moment over the last 48 hours reading the manga from chapter 1 lol. I definitely shouldn't stopped somewhere so I didn't join you guys in this monthly update cycle.

I agree with what many are saying about the timeskip being a bit jarring and that there were many events during that span doubtlessly worth being seen. Still nice to see Thorfinn with both his family and his new family though.

Hopefully Hild becomes a character that-- Actually, that's saying enough in my opinion. Hopefully she becomes a CHARACTER soon instead of a cool face that isn't providing anything beyond repetitive empty threats.

So Sigurd got captured by pirates while being armed but apparently Thorfinn's ship is fine being unarmed because plot armor

swords are created with the purpose of killing other humans and are a symbol of aggression thats why thorfinn doesn't want them, every other weapon that serves for survival is fine.

Honestly I agree that the weapon ban is very dumb. The native Americans aren't always friendly and who knows a war between them will happen and the Vikings only had their axes which weren't made for battle but for chopping. Native Americans had unique weapons like spear throwers and tomahawks. Spear throwers in particular are dangerous because they can throw spears crazy fast and they have a long range.

The entire point of settling in Vinland is to create a country without war. You're basically saying "Yeah but what if there's war?" If thorfinn anticipated battles with the Natives he wouldn't go to Vinland to begin with.

That means Thorfinn was dumb for anticipating absolutely 0 war. I know that Thorfinn is a nice guy and doesn't want wars at all but they should be ready to defend themselves. And if war is inevitable, it's better to fight back than just die and perish. According to the real history, vikings were attacked by the natives there, and just in case if it actually happened in the manga (which is definitely fictional and not even close to the true story), things would get really bad for them.

Yes you could say that. Obviously the idea of creating a country without war is very idealistic. If you're deadset on saying that violence is unavoidable that would mean that Thorfinn's journey to Vinland is already in vain. What he's obligated to do in that case isn't to bring swords, it's to stay home.

Damn, can't wait for the reveal of what's up with Thorkell's lost gay brother lmao! In 5 years, no way I'm keeping up monthly.

Been a blast reading this, hope the last arc will be just as good as the previous ones or maybe even better.
