For the Hell of It, "Konohana Kitan". It's extremely calm, relaxing, and fun, and even includes Japanese myths. Definitely not a typical moe show, although it does have moe moments. I want to say New Game!, but New Game! is definitely moe so it's a little less universal.

Thank you for spreading the word, Konohana Kitan is on the top of my favorite anime and manga!

You're absolutely welcome! Luckily, Yen Press starting printing the manga, or we wouldn't have even had the chapters in English.

My pick would be Casshern Sins. It’s a slow paced show, but a very compelling and deep dark show that gives a retrospect about the idea of death and the different views on what it’s like to “truly live”.

I would like more people (not everyone) to watch Blue Gender and Argento Soma.

I would also like to add Hyper Police, which of course is based on a shounen manga, but with struggles upon characters far more relatable than anime so far. Hyper Police unlike other shounen manga adaptations is beyond stupid and cheery, life is not cheery people.

There are multiple anime that I would like to recommend to people who already watch anime. However, since I have to include everyone I would say Death Note.

I think that one of the most universally understandable and beautiful animes is Kaguya-hime no Monogatari.

Hunter x Hunter (2011) should be watched by all anime fans, but not too sure if I'd recommend it to non-anime people though. Death Note would probably be best for a first-timer.

Was about to comment the exact same thing xD. One Piece, before the timeskip, was incredibly relaxing and enjoyable to watch. I wouldn't recommend it exactly, but I feel like everyone should experience it

Experience is probably the right word to use because that's the only anime I can think of that felt like a personal experience more than it did watching an anime, that's just how powerful the writing was, oda built a beautiful world for us to experience, it's a shame he sold out in the new world and decided to go after the anime tiddies crowd.

Yeahhhh, I felt like it took away the comedy in One Piece which made up for 40% of my enjoyment. I also don't like the art style. But I still feel like the world-building has increased A LOT since then

The variety of situations they get into and sides of the entertainment industry it covers, and it exemplifying how ALL anime should do fanservice makes it a must watch.

Despite my complaints I still follow it but the last few arcs have been rather dissapointing and dressrosa in particular was dragged out for far too long, my only real issue with the art is that I think I think it's unrealistic because literally everybody bar children has big boobs.

In my opinion, if they can get through the heavier and other hard-to-watch parts of it, Welcome to the NHK, because it shows that even when we're at our lowest, we can lift ourselves and each other up. It also has one of the most relatable and realistic depictions of depression, social anxiety, and other struggles people face.

Other options that I'd recommend with great character development and an impactful stories would be A Place Further Than The Universe or Made in Abyss.

Tsubasa Cronicle

It is the best shounen period. I think a shounen fan would undoubtedly enjoy it. It also has a little drama, a lot of adventure and heaps of heart.

Urusei Yatsura; it’s tongue-in-cheek funny, fantastically imaginative, has great characters that all have Evangelion-like (hubris-based) fatal flaws, it’s psychological (it has very, very deeply mind-bending one-off episodes, despite how it looks), & it has a charm that defies time. If so many people can sit through Hunter x Hunter (2011)‘s 148 episodes of excellent story-telling, then they should give this series a try as well (195 episodes).

My Rec would be Kiki's Delivery Service. One of my ATF. If you're ever in a chummy mood, this movie will cheer you right up.

Lol, what do I think? I think that user and I have slightly different taste in Anime. I found nothing funny about Urusei Yatsura.

I agree with you on Kiki's Delivery Service though. My mom and I watched on laserdisc years ago, and it was great.

Can't honestly think of a single anime everyone should watch. If it was a movie I'd probably go with sen to chihiro no kamikakushi (but then again, a few friends that I'd recommended it to came back to me with a "meh" reaction), if it was a series I guess natsume yuujinchou would be fine. It's not my favourite but I think everyone should be able to watch it without a problem and enjoy it too, unlike other series that I like more but are not as "universal", so to speak.
"The problem with defining even an aspect of your personality by something that you like, is that criticism of that product appears to you to be criticism of you personally. I find it to be a very harmful attitude, [...] you can't rationally discuss a product because you've started to define yourself by its very existence."

I go for attack on titan. I remember showing this to my family especially my mom who didn't really watch anime. she said that attack on titan could be only anime that she likes. I remember she said at that time "Is this really cartoon?".

also, I show this to my classmate and most of them do not like anime that much but still finished 1 whole season.
