I watch most if not all my anime at 480p cause my fucking internet is garbo and it buffers every sec at 720p but sometimes it don't do dat and I watch at 720 and there's really not that much a difference from me except it's less pixely.

Although there is this one case with Noragami in which I can't remember if it was 360p or 480p but the anime was literally just fucking pixels still had to watch it like dat tho cause it wouldn't even go past 1 sec in 720p.

I watch most anime series at 480p too xd

Ppl don't like it because the quality is low af lel, like they can just go to 720p or 1180p.
Only ppl like me and u with slow pc or smth watch anime in 480p hehe

It's annoying if it keeps buffering and lowering quality prevents that most of the time :3

There is a noticeable difference in quality between 480p and 720p (it seems to be less noticeable from 720p to 1080p), so naturally people would prefer one before the other. If it's the only copy available and they really want to watch the anime I doubt they'd be picky, but if there's a better quality one and they have a good internet connection, it seems reasonable to choose the better one.

Also, why is your avatar so perfect for this thread

Do people need a reason to prefer something with more quality?

Basically this. Unless 480p is the best release out there, no one with a reasonable connection is going to willingly choose it.

True, otherwise you could almost see what's happening on screen.

And i downloaded 30gb jojo for just 26 episodes instead of just 12 gb one which has little to no quality difference from the former.

i always prefer 720p or 1080p resolution with 100-450mb file size per each episode because my storage capacity and internet allow for it.

You could get stuff on PAL VHS with a higher resolution than 480p, man. I prefer to watch stuff in a format that doesn't make my eyes bleed, unless it was never released/remastered into anything higher than 480p.

Can't do anything about garbage internet though :( But hey, at least you still get to watch stuff.

Garbage internet > no internet.

it depends on 2 factors like your monitor/display resolution or if you watch it in full screen mode

i usually download 480p anime torrents since my monitor/display is only 15" with 1366x768 resolution (or 720p) and watch it in full screen

obviously i should rather download those 720p torrents for better experience but a fullscreen 480p video on a 720p display/monitor is good enough or without much noticeable bad quality like blurring

but if the display/monitor resolution gets higher than that like 1080p then of course i have to download at least 720p anime video torrent to not see blurry video in full screen

I would say that it depends on your screen size tho , 480p looks pretty bad on my pc monitor but looks ok on my smartphone .

As technology improves, so do our standards. It's difficult to go back when you've gotten used to watching anime with better quality. 480p is not unwatchable for me but there's a significant difference to 720p and it has an impact on my enjoyment of a show.

That's why you download whatever you want to watch, in whatever quality you want to watch it, that way you only need to wait for it to complete downloading and you will have no buffer. The only right thing to do out there.

Also let's just have a look at the last One Piece episode from HS and how many people snatched the 1080p, 720p and 480p encode: 4195, 4418 and 3241, respectively.

You will always see the subtitles, no matter the resolution, you might have to make it bigger than its native resolution once it starts to go into resolutions sub 360p.

If the subtitles are embedded, they will not be seen with a resolution of 144p. I say it because it happens to me with youtube.
Otherwise, if they are not embedded, they will look regardless of the quality.

Depends on your monitor/tv/device where you watch your videos. That will determinate the importance of that. That's the reason there are the ones who love 720 because the resolution of the device is adapted very well with that resolution. There are cases that 480 is very low to major devices. In my case I can be very well with 480 because my device is very basic and old. That's the reason they still exist and the new resolutions. I have a decent PC but my monitor is old and 480 will be good, even so 720 is even better. I have another device that it is better major resolutions because of pixels of low resolutions, so it depends on your display device. Maybe you have a device that can adapt well to 480 too.

You know that not all people can afford a 2-8 TB hard drive to save the anime of 1.5 GB per episode. I barely have enough for a couple of animes. So for low quality anime below 720p I choose YouTube XD. and the truth is not so bad.

Why would anyone need a drive that size though? Once you watch an episode just delete it afterwards. Are you that inhibited to think of that resolution? You never need more storage than for that one Anime anyways. Just stick to one, and download the next one once you are done with your current one. Starting 200 Anime at once is a really bad idea, especially storage wise.

no not really they rip from normal streaming sites like crunchyroll which offer a good quality. The problem is that their encode is trash or the streaming hosts for example openload don't allow for bigger size files or they just compress it weirdly.

It depends on each series. CR rips ain't the best either. Usually better to just wait for BD encodes.
And yeah, since streaming sites usually re-encode or transcode web rips to save storage or to make them hardsubbed. You have a noticeable loss of quality either way.

'Cause newer anime fans that are spoiled by HD resolutions and 16:9.

Little thing called bit rate for the uninitiated. 480p can look good on a 1080 screen if the bit rate is good enough.

If you are watching in a small screen, the difference between 480p and 1080p is not very much. I watch most of my anime in 1080p because I watch most anime on my TV, and that is 1080p.

I download most of What I watch Because My Internet is also Garbage. I prefer Waiting To watch Something than watching a Pixelly or Laggy version of It. Anime is a Visual Medium So I prefer that the Quality is High (At least 720p).

Edit. If the Shoiw is Old I prefer it being in 4:3 since it gives it that classic feel. Also That way You get the Full experience instead of Having it Akwardly Cropped to be 16:9.

I used to do it. The problem is that they take a long time to download, so I could not see the chapters at the pace I wanted. That's why I do not do it so often. So I usually download them at 720p. With an Internet of 100 kb/s to download in BD 1080P is complicated.
