THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

I haven't seen the original Mahoujin Guru Guru before but this was fun.

The RPG style art and the storytelling looks really entertaining. The visual quality looks like older animation but I think works fine for this show. Nike is a fun character introduced so far imo. Somewhat hotblooded but entertaining to watch.

I find the comedy to be amusing in this first episode as well. Definitely a keeper for now. Kukuri is also so adorable.

I'm biased since I love the series since 15+ years ago, but I loved it. Especially how they expressed it as a 80's game, more than ever before.

Is there a nice way to watch it though? I only found a terrible streaming, I'm not used to see anime at the same time as japan.

This is a amazing adaptation of the original. It gets so many things right. I am super excited to watch the rest of the series.

My only complain would be Kukuri. In the original she was this dumb naive kid with a young mouse like voice with absolutely no common sense. I feel giving her a much older sounding cutesy voice go against her character.

Nike on the other hand feels 100% spot on though, as the rest of the anime.

The opening is great, far better than expected. (was prepared for the worst)

Boering village, or just boring village.

Wow the pace is so fast, the game text jokes are almost hard to read before they go away.

I wonder how the younger generation would think about this knowing that retro anime back then wasn't all edgy Cowboy Bebop and Akira.
I wish Cowboy Bebop never existed.

Crunchyroll picked it up! :)

I loved the original (watched the LA Spanish sub forever ago), and this was a wonderful comeback! Can't wait for the next ep!

This seems like such a fun and self aware anime that makes me feel like a kid again watching a "typical" adventure with the utmost attention! I loved everything about this!

People who had already watched / read this series before, I'm kinda skeptical though on this being nearly half the number of episodes of the original series. This probably won't cover the entire story right? :(

Oooooh my, it was so nostalgic! I used to watch the original series everyday on tv, and it was 16 years ago! I can't believe so much time has already passed
I was finally able to read the whole manga this past autumn, but this remake came as a big surprise! It's like going back to the 9-year-old me T_T

The first series didn't really follow the manga, it took its own way, if I recall correctly. This one is the right one, the first episode covers the first 4 chapters of the manga!

Oh really? Nice, I just watched the first 2 episodes of the original series and the story advanced much less than in this first episode of the remake. I also noticed that the old series is G-rated while this one is PG-13, and featured that hot lady in black in the market xD Did that appear in the manga? Cuz I'm definitely hyped if this is following the manga well since I love how fast paced the comedy and the adventure feel!

Well, you wouldn't really call her a "hot lady", but... ahahah! They're trying to make it more appealing to older audiences too, I guess :D

Actually it was that old series that didn't make it to the end. It was more slow-paced, it had fillers, and at a certain point it was interrupted. So it never reached the end of story like the manga.
This series instead is changing some events to have a faster development, so it has more probabilities.

There was a lady tricking nike into buying things, but it definitely wasn't this sexy. Just a normal pretty woman.

Didn't expect Laughing Man.

Had no idea this was getting a reboot. Caught only a few episodes of the older version. Feels more frantic than I remember. Still loved everything about this episode. Kukuri is the most adorable thing I've seen in a long time.

Welp, you should try at least the first episode. If you like playing j-rpg you will love it, it's more like a j-rpg parody, if you're a gamer that's awesome, if not, kinda meh I guess since you will not have the references.

Rating: PG-13 - Teens 13 or older

The original was for kids, this time they're trying to push the demographic a bit higher.

I liked the original 1994 version more! In the 2017 version, they squeezed the first 3 episodes into one and removed many jokes. Also I didn't like kukuri's voice at all compared to the original. But I 'll still watch it because I love guru guru so much.

Actually the first episodes in the 1994 version followed the manga more than the new one(just check the manga and watch episodes of the 1994 version). They removed many things in the new one.

I really, really, REALLY miss the narrator of the first anime series.

Everything else was good, and faithful to the source, though super rushed.
I suppose the rythm will relax after a while, the direction is probably going to rush through the chapters the first anime series adapted faithfully to reach quickly the part of the manga that was never adapted before.

The opening has eyecatches of several characters from later manga chapters so they are definitey going for the faithful manga adaptation route.

They're obviously speeding up the pace and cutting things here and there, after all they're going to adapt 16 volumes in 24 episodes...
And by the way the first series ended 8 years before the manga did... how could it be accurate in any way? I don't recall much of the first series and can't say how much of it stuck to the original, but...

I decided to watch this on a whim and I'm glad I did because it was cute and funny. It had a very nostalgic feeling to it, but I guess that's because it's a remake of an older anime. I never watched it, but might after this finishes.

Probably it's going to be a new adaptation of the manga, the 1994/2000 anime series were pretty heavy with fillers and anime original content.

I love Mahoujin Guru Guru, i have re watch it alot back then and its in my favorite anime list.

And for Me, my thought about the remake, i don't like the new Seiyu.
And i agree with Kiki Kawai, I love the Original more than this remake....
