According to IT Media, Tokyu Railway and National Institute of Informatics will carry out a PR experiment of Augmented Reality (AR) tied-up with Dennou Coil and Doraemon. They will plant "Meta Bug pin" around Shibuya station and users look for them by iPhone application. If you collect all the Meta Bugs, you can exchange it with a meal ticket.

The project is a part of Japan Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)'s "e-space Demonstration Project".

According to Sankei newspaper, METI collaborated with VOCALOID Hatsune Miku to promote the recycling campaign of mobile phones.

Hatsune Miku sings "Tansu Keitai Atsume-tai no Uta" composed by the head of Environment Recycling Office and the mp3 file is available in the official website for downloading.

Makes me wish we had taken up augmented reality instead of robotics for our thesis.

Sounds fun, but quite difficult because of all who will probably be quite difficult with all the people who visit Shibuya. It sounds a tiny bit like "The World Ends With You", actually, but using science rather than supernatural forces and without the noise (monsters).

At least they did this collaboration with a good anime, rather than Lucky Star or something like that.

Don't be disappointed, robotics is pretty interesting as well. A possible choice of area of expertise for my thesis.

The endless debate between fans and haters. At one point, after spending a lot of time on MAL, you just realize it's totally pointless.

On MAL, everyone who has used the lame rating system becomes a critic and an intellectual by default, haven't you heard?

No really.

It must have an objective.

Or is the Japanese government so rich that they need to waste their economical resources on games?

National Institute of Informatics said the objective of the experiment is to create a new market by combining the IT technique with service industry.

Ah. So new market based off reality entertainment? I can't really see what services can appear from this... But yeah, now I kind of get the "why".

Using the common population as experimentation tool, that's kind of cool.

I imagine a less obstrusive method of making information available to the public. Think of it as a step up from the more common QR code which can direct your mobile phone to a certain web page.
