Why do people watch multiple anime at the same time?

Recently I have been seeing lots of people watching multiple anime at the same time rather then finishing the one they are on and moving on to the next one (one by one). The reason I think this is kinda weird is what is the reason for it? Isn't confusing when watching multiple anime at the same time? People who watch multiple anime at the same time, please give me an answer <3

Most people do. Tons of people on MAL watch the anime that are airing during the current season. It's like saying "Why do people watch more then one TV show"...

If it's a completed series then I will often watch it and only it until I finish, but if there are multiple shows airing at the same time that I would like to watch then why shouldn't I? I am more than capable of following more than one show at a time.

I sometimes switch between two anime if one of the series isn't good. That way, it makes it easier to watch the crappier one.

I always watch 4/5 anime at the same time, not more than that or else I'll never finish any of them. Also it's draining to watch just one anime, and boring. I like to switch form slice of life to action to comedy etc depending on what I want to watch at the time.

Following airing anime is a big reason. Starting anime and realising that I'm in the mood for a different type of anime happens to me fairly often. Even though I'm currently watching Sailor Moon I started Kamichama Karin last night because my internet was slow and it's the only anime I have downloaded.

Because some of the stuff is currently airing.
And because it's fun to watch different kinds of shows at different times.
I can't watch a 13 episode romcom in one sitting.

I only do that to anime which are still airing.

For anime which have finished airing, I binge-watch them, one by one

It's still the same result in the end. You'l forget the minor parts eventually even if you watch series one at a time.

I usually watch what I'm on the mood for. Sometimes I watch 2-3 episodes from an anime of my on-hold list(very rare), then some episodes from an airing anime, then I stop to marathon an already finished anime, then I rewatch one while rewatching another one... It does not feel confusing to me.

I'll get bored of the anime I'm watching quickly if I don't a have a variety to choose from.
And no, it isn't confusing at all.

I find it hard to watch only one show. I tend to watch in 2-episode streaks and some shows aren't good for binge watching. Stuff like Dennou Coil and Mushishi can't be binged on, so it's good to have another thing on the side

Well people tend to pick up a lot of shows at the start of a new anime season. I think most people watch more than 1 show at a time tbh.

I would stop watching anime altogether if you forced me to keep watching the same show until it was complete. It's too much stress. I don't always want to watch that kind of show.

It's for variety. I like how silly Fairy Tail can be, but I can appreciate how serious Another is. I could totally binge watch a short anime, but anime series with a crap ton of episodes like Fairy Tail would require having some other anime series on the side.

To keep it fresh and interesting, especially for long watching sessions. If it's high class stuff then I'll probably binge it though but I rarely do that these days.

No, it's not confusing at all when all the shows have different plots and characters. If I only watched 1 at a time then it would take forever to finish all the shows I want to watch. Plus the people that usually watch multiple shows are following the current season. These are the anime that are airing in Japan right now and only release a single half hour episode every week. It's really easy to follow a ton of them that way.

I'm currently watching 12 shows. 10 of them are ffrom the current season and 2 are older completed shows I'm watching whenever. I usually follow anywhere from 3-15 shows at a time. Any more and I have a hard time setting aside time for them.

Pretty much what everyone else AND common sense says. Variety is fun, it's not confusing unless you have a mental deficit or reach triple-digit watching numbers, it's impossible to finish airing shows before you start the next one, and some types of show are more enjoyable in smaller doses instead of forcing yourself to marathon them.
I probably regret this post by now.

The question was confusing me. I thought it was about someone opening up multiple windows of anime, and watching it at the same time.
I was like; Are people really doing that?!

Tobad I misunderstood the question. Would be neat if something weird like that was really done.

Some shows are not good for marathoning because of information overloading (Monster, 12 kingdoms, Legend of Galactic Heroes), episodic nature (Mushishi) or just too depressing to watch in a few sittings (Texhnolyze). It is much easier to savor a single show by watching a bunch of different shows in small chunks.

Some people, like me, watch shows that are currently airing. They only get aired once a week so I don't think it's inconceivable for people to watch many of those at the same time.

I also know that some people watch a lot of shows that have already finished airing simultaneously. I personally do that sometimes if the one show I am watching doesn't maintain my interest in such a strong way that I want to focus on it alone e.g slice of life anime. In fact, with slice of life also being an example of this, I do it sometimes to stop myself from going through a show too quickly.
Then there are those anime which are so boring/bad that I can't sit there and watch them continuously therefore I watch other anime so I can slowly progress through it.

It works the same way as with ongoing shows. You watch episodes of show A and at some point you watch episodes of show B without having finished show A. It's that simple.
I probably regret this post by now.
