So without the event ticket, UtaPri looses more than 50% of it's sales. Interesting

Not much to comment on this week, shame neither DxD BorN or Shinmai could last a second week. Hope they got a fair bit below the cutoff though.

Yahari selling extremely well, an improvement on the first season which is rare. Cinderella Girls and KanColle still getting fab numbers is good to see.

This is fully expected since the event ticket application serial code on Vol.1 and Vol.2 is for the chance to win the right to buy tickets to the next concert on the individual days of January 16 and 17 with ST☆RISH. It is sort of similar with Love Live!'s μ's, where the concert tickets are highly sought out by fans. Here is a comparison below of the 1st week sales.

Love Live! 2nd Season
Vol.1: 82,119 LE + 396 RE = 82,515
Vol.2: 41,865 LE

Vol.1 to Vol.2 drop = 49.26%

UtaPri S2
Vol.1: 28,253 BD + 26,207 DVD = 54,460
Vol.2: 13,698 BD + *9,563 DVD = 23,261

Vol.1 to Vol.2 drop = 57.29%

UtaPri S3
Vol.1: 31,157 BD + 18,120 DVD = 49,277
Vol.2: 27,171 BD + 14,852 DVD = 42,023
Vol.3: 14,284 BD + *7,787 DVD = 22,071

Vol.1 to Vol.3 drop = 55.21%
Vol.2 to Vol.3 drop = 47.48%

That horrid Saekano show MAL seems to like seems to have had it's whole volume bonus effect kick in for the last one. Boy has A-1 continued to have some absolute flat out garbage anime sell lately with some of these specific demographic targeted bonuses. This is the time of year they always really seem to come alive and have the most unusually high sales for some really random seeming things. I don't know why people are parroting about a 2nd season for that now though which is just going to be oh so totally riveting when they know it's already happening, most likely this Winter.

Other than that Uta Pri has had it's post event ticket drop. Really nothing else to say, boring week as usual. No point in just seeking out a show I think I recognize and then just commenting on it's existence in a chart like the rest of MAL except for the oft interesting EJC and his comparisons. He does good work and corrections. Other than that though I mean really what's the point.

That's extremely bad, I don't know how anyone could look at those numbers and say boy what a winner. I rarely see anything that low that's actually meant to sell discs to profit.

It is quite common for anime based on LN with low-budget to have number like that. So it's not bad, it's just the standard.
Those anime are made for pure advertising and to sell LNs.

They're not making any money from this. They're probably loosing it if anything. Reports from actual people in the industry seem to indicate that you need a lot more sales for that to even meet production. Even if it is "low budget." The LN volumes sell an average amount as well, so I doubt they're making a considerable amount of money on that front either.

I'd rather they do away with most of them, only 2 LN adaptions were good this year.

You cannot honestly sit there and type up that an anime adaption is making money strictly from that adaption when they're barely selling 1,000 copies per volume. That's stupid.

They're not making money. The "profit" from 1,000 copies would not even put a dent on production and marketing costs.

Who knows if Absolute Duo is profiting outside of its source material or not? Either way, I wouldn't bet that it's making a profit from BD sales with a measly 1,245 series average. AD did sell better than Juuou Mujin no Fafnir though.

No one said they're making a profit, the money they're making is enough to offset SOME of the costs, so it's not a MAJOR bomb.
And this is only the anime disk sales, let alone the other sales.

Oricon does not report the full sales and we have no idea how much merch has been sold.

ANN reported a while ago from people who are actually in the industry that you need MUCH MORE sales to even meet production for the adaption. Read for yourself:

that's a major bomb. 1,000 copies is really missing your mark.

Oricon reports from a large amount of stores. I know that and you know that. If this thing barely sells in the numerous amount of stores Oricon gets data from then it probably did not sell much in the other stores.

Not talking about merch, genius, strictly the anime adaption. They are not making money on the adaption alone, not the LN, not the merch. Re-read what I said before you try to be a smart ass.

We acteally don't know what % of the total oricon reports. It could be 3k~ on average for all we know, not including boosted LN sales and boosted merch/music sales. Or whatever else is related to that series. Oricon is very good for comparing series and to see if they are hits/huge hits. But to know how much profit a series made? far from it.
And anime adaptions are not purely made to profit of BD sales alone, so I don't see what your point is.

http://www.someanithing.com/sales-faqguide
There is also no assumption that video sales alone will recoup the entire budget. This is not remotely true for the vast majority of series. Even 10k sellers may well not recoup all costs through video sales. This makes the concept of “break even” problematic.

3.1.2 Oricon’s Cons
  - Not everything is reported. As seen in 3.1, if a disc ranks outside the first threshold it’s never counted, outside the second threshold we don’t (directly) see it.
  - Thresholds can be high enough to prevent low sellers from ranking at all, or ranking past the first week.
  - Due to the above (and other factors), sales reporting is heavily front-loaded, with very few discs ranking beyond their first 2 weeks.
  - Because coverage methods and video formats have changed over time, comparing sales of recent series to those from even 5 years ago is difficult.
  - While they cover many retailers, by no means do they cover all. KyoAni Shop, for example, does not report sales to Oricon.
  - There can be very large gaps between what Oricon reports and what distributors report. See this post for examples.

  3.1.3 Oricon’s Biases
  - Because Oricon reports on a finite number of releases each week, the best way to make the rankings is to have sales compressed in the first 1-2 weeks. This ensures you make the rankings at least once. This is exactly how late night anime operates, which is why Oricon works so well for our purposes.
  - This does mean that Oricon is less useful for “slow burn” series that accumulate sales over a long period. Kids’ shows, for example, are less likely to rack up large preorder sales. Their sales would presumably come over a longer period of time in smaller doses, usually falling short of Oricon thresholds, and therefore not being reported. Particularly as many are DVD only, where thresholds are higher.
  - Shows with a broader mainstream appeal can also be underrepresented on Oricon. Nodame Cantabile might be an extreme example but during an interview a producer for noitaminA stated that over time, Nodame Cantabile has actually sold three times what has been reported through Oricon (or through 2ch as he puts it). For a series that has gone on for three seasons over a period of years, airs on the more mainstream noitaminA block, plays out like a soap opera, and has a successful live action adaptation, this seems believable.
  - Another example given in the same interview is noitaminA show Hakaba Kitarou, which saw a bump in orders after the original mangaka’s wife published the autobiography “Hakaba no Nyoubou”.
  - This situation would apply to few of the anime we report on here but should be understood anyway.
  - Oricon does not count international orders! See this post for more details. It’s unknown when they stopped counting international orders, but it was some time before June 2014.

Reading this would be a good start before you make your next post in these threads.

http://www.someanithing.com/167

Now the official Sakura Trick PR account has tweeted this:

https://twitter.com/sakuratrick_pr/status/501757044588703745

売上4万枚桜Trick!@todamegumi: 第6巻!!私の大好きな楓ゆずのエピソードが入ってます!!(Trick11) タチ先生の描き下ろし漫画も楓・ゆず編ですよっ!わくわく!RT”@sakuratrick_pr: 桜Trick(第6巻発売日)””

From the bottom up, the official account made a tweet indicating volume 6 was out. The middle is a reply by Toda Megumi, the seiyuu for Yuzu, talking about Yuzu and Kaede. And at top is a reply from the official account saying “40,000 units sold Sakura Trick!”

The only thing this could possibly mean is total units shipped across all volumes, which comes to an average of 6,666.

The Oricon average is going to be around 2.0 – 2.1k. It didn’t rank second weeks, and we know Oricon is never the full sales (they don’t cover the Pony Canyon store for example, but it goes beyond that), and we know importers aren’t counted – so it’s a very safe bet the “real” average is easily over 3k, plus whatever it sells in the very long term, a disc here or there over the coming months and years – though you’d think used copies would be what most very late adopters go for.

and this
