Chatting is probably the answer, factoring in the forums here, and but also other platforms. Still, gone are the days of dusty CDs, and now a lot of programs need to be downloaded through the Internet, and a lot of applications are now running on top of it. Even if chatting is my 'main' use for the Internet, it's not the most important thing I do, and far from the only thing. I'm studying every day (naturally dedicating most time to languages). And in the background of everything else I do, I'm often streaming music or a video, or playing a downloaded version of one of the two. Without the Internet I would probably be in the dark about a lot of things, even if I might have read a few more books and done a bit more painting or something... I don't just mean 'because research is many times less convenient without an Internet connection', but also because of 'chatting'. Talking to people all over the world: you share things, you learn things, and it's good for you.
