THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Well, this episode was kinda interesting. We see Kousei playing on stage and there's the usual transition between the flashbacks from the past.

Even during his younger days, it looks like he suffered mentally after what happened in the past. "I can't hear the notes". Yikes. An overall intense episode. I like how Kousei was able to play the piano very well unlike previously. Quite a development there. Oh my Kaori...

Now I get why the episode repeated sorrow especially with that ending.

He overcame himself and proved that violinist girl is a great musician. Then when it's time to not hear the music, he heard sound, so he was able to improve. The real feeling was shown in the friend's memory. Oh, so his mother was being harsh because she was frustrated at her life not left and cares about her son. And that friend of the mother's friend felt guilty when he started to lose the sound.

His performance affected that little boy so that he can think of doing the fullest. Childhood girl feels that he's different. So the violinist girl was in the hospital.

It really was nice to see Hiroko and Kousei's mother in the past.

Seeing Saki's warmth towards Kousei was a really nice change of pace. Her desire to leave something for Kousei, wanting more time and trying to prepare him the best way she could. Being able to face sorrow and being able to make a living. It was also nice to see how Hiroko changed after seeing Kousei getting into a concert.

Kousei's concert by himself was great! Being able to play the music in the way he knows best. and finally moving on from his weakness. Tsubaki showing some reaction after seeing Kousei.

Only through tragic events would his music grow... that is really depressing T.T

I'm not someone who is reading the source material. How different was it that made it a disappointing episode for you

I had enjoyed this episode, the whole background on him and his progression towards being a better musician, and the foreshadowing of what is to come.

That was a good performance. The audience was in awe of that performance that they didn't want to hear the little boy play. That was kinda sad but he still played.

The parts at 8:11 and 11:27 keep giving me the chills... All the flashbacks aside, they really know how to amplify the music to fit the mood of the anime. The first half was probably one of the most captive 13 minutes I've watched that doesn't include any sort of action.

Of course, this is coming from a guy who listened to this song countless times once after reading the manga, so the immersion for me was definitely there. I think they did a successful job of adapting the manga, although some people here don't seem to think so.

Scored this episode somewhere between 5/5 and 10/5.

The piano playing really makes a difference to the emotion experienced when watching rather than reading.

Saki's smile was so beautiful :O Did she have ALS or something? :(
The feelz when u realize all the symbolism and true meaning behind all what was being said.

> Saki: "I'm playing the sorrow version so u can get used to sorrow"
> His growth is spurred by sorrow
> If he wants to move down this path he'll need to suffer more sorrow

DAMN!!!! T^T Why u do this D:

Tears overflowing ;_;

Those "Look at me." and orbs of light.

Another speechless performance confirmed by the audience.
Kousei wanting his performance to reach his mom.
He finally said goodbye to her.

It was nice to see Kousei overcoming his problems with his mother, but the foreshadowing in the end implied that Kaori is probably going to die...I hope she doesn't die :(

Another great episode! But am i the only one who feels that the pacing got faster compared to the first half of the anime? I am not reading the manga so I really dont know if its just me. :D

Anyway. that last scene though... i had already braced my self last week to be prepared to know what happened to Kaori but, I STILL DONT WANT TO BELIEVE WHAT I JUST SAW.. I know its pretty obvious that there's a big possibility that she would die but i hope she can manage to survive until the end of the anime..

5/5 for this episode

So far this is the most beautiful episode. It was very emotional. And though I love manga, I prefer anime, because we can actually hear all this music, and this is the point of this series. Damn, it gave me chills.

You're a stronger person than I. Kousei's seiyuu really conveyed the emotions of someone finally letting the tears flow after years of holding them in.

We finally understood what was happenning in his mother's mind (even though we already had an idea) when she was being so harsh. Really nice episode, we saw an improval in Kousei's plays and we can only expect better plays to come.
I'm still waiting so much for the ost, 6 days left huh.
I'm giving it a 4/5 or a 4.5/5.
Either way, I can't wait for the next episode.

I was waiting for this episode like crazy but I'm really disappointed with the episode.
I really thought he would stop being all emo and do an heavenly performance, but he kept being all emo with all those emo thoughts. Hopefully he is over this shit now.
If he keeps having these emo thoughts about his mother and whatsoever in the next episodes I'll drop this show.

Dammit that ending of the episode practically confirms Kaori's death now. I'm not even sure Kousei could recover from such a loss.

It gets tiring to comment over each live performance, but thats how they like to express their feelings and thoughts ("its no good if its not in front of everyone"). I don't really care for Rachmaninoff but it pretty much fit the ocasion, and it was good to see they didn't cut the music or repeated the same thing over and over (like they did when Kousei played in that competition) yet I would prefer if they didn't added any effect (I wish they would never do that in first place, its like they don't know what to do but still proceeds to come up with something just for the sake of it). But the whole episode (as well the anime) could be a lot better if they didn't made it overdramatic and pompous. Theres too much make-up it doesn't look cute anymore, I guess everyone feels the same.

You do know that this show IS most entirely about Arima getting over his past/problems? it's not about his carrier, but about how he gets over what he couldn't before, because he met Kaori.I get a feeling you are expecting something way different from this show, like him becoming bigger and bigger as musican, but i think that that's not what this show is about.

I actually cried, what a crazy episode. Dunno what to think about it. Gave it a 1/5, but it's somewhere between -10/5 and 10/5. It's full of emotions, but so mixed up that it gives me the creeps as well.

I am dropping this thing as soon as she dies (which she probably will). They will probably force some kind of happy/mediocre ending to it then. The only way to finish this, in case she dies, is for him to have a mental break down and give up on the piano for good.... I mean what the hell :'( If she is gonna die, at least make it sudden and not with all those dead flags.

Well, i liked this episode... alot. I'm keeping my eyes closed to the overly-heavy drama, and i found out it's much easier enjoying the show that way.

Kousei solo'd the performance. Looks like he finally got over his issues, and the mom just went from a demon to the ideal mother. Ah, moms.. . Saki's in heaven now, along with Izumi Shinichi's mom, and Kousei finally understands that he needs to move on - the doubt is gone, and so is his mother's shadow.

That little girl... another member added to Kousei's non-official harem. Emi seems to have enjoyed the performance (in more ways than one) and Tsubaki's kind of a mystery to me now. Don't tell me she's one of those girls that simply like someone because of his inability. Why else would she be disappointed that Kousei has overcome his weakness?

Can't get enough of that ending...

5/5

I have a question, guys. Is Kaori going to die? I mean, i just don't know... for the past few episodes there were some things going on with her, something like hints, maybe? I just can't put my finger on it...

Seriously though, A-1, stop it. We. Freaking. Get it.
