This anime is totally over for me after this episode.

Holy shit. I can't stand that many black bars in an anime.

It's just bad.

I'll join you. I hate the shit out of the black-out-this-part-of-the-screen. There's a rating system. Why not just use it?

Also... THE FIRST TEN MINUTES OF THE FIRST EPISODE OF ELFEN LIED (and various other scenes). If that can exist, why can't this? Why can't Tokyo Ghoul?

Normally I wouldn't be all rant-y but it's one thing to see those stupid black screen blockers in ONE SHOW. To see it in another show, to think it's becoming some kind of trend is...NO. Do. Not. Want.

Lastly... Does anyone actually own uncensored Blu-rays or DVDs which have been black shadow censored? I keep hearing people say, "I'll just wait for the Blu-ray," but are those really going to be uncensored? Are they really going to have the black screen blockers removed?

What? They still can't just put anything on TV as long as they put the right rating.

Different time. It also could have been the DVD/BD version that you saw for those. Series are only censored for the TV broadcast because they can't show that on TV unless it's on select stations. You probably weren't watching Elfen Leid as it aired unlike with Terra Formers or Tokyo Ghoul.

A trend called TV doesn't let you show everything. Yeah it's a new one. Gore porn was being shown on PBS years ago.

If they're uncensored then why would there be a black shadow? YES THEY WILL BE BECAUSE THE BARS ARE THERE BECAUSE OF TV BROADCAST RULES. THIS ISN'T THE FIRST OR THE LAST TIME GORE OR NUDITY WILL BE CENSORED ON TV.

I'm inclined to agree with you, considering that the gore and deaths seem like they're going to be a pretty big part of this show, but you have to take into consideration that this is being aired on television, so it has to at least try to be appropriate for most viewers.

However, I can't say I like the idea of entire scenes not being visible at all because of their content. I mean, why air it at all if one of the focal points of the show is going to be censored to hell?
Kuro_YuukiOct 4, 2014 10:48 PM
Matsuoka Yoshitsugu has hardly any range as a voice actor, and is grossly over-cast.

Yeah. I said it.

Some TV networks are just that kind of stupid and anal about everything,no matter if they air late at night or if they are rated R.Now there a lot of censorship laws in good old quack land Japan but that still doesn't excuse it.
Its really hard to understand that if you're supper picky about censoring anything remotely resembling nudity or violence then how about not fucking accepting series that have nudity and violence in your time slot?

Now ofc not every network is like that which makes it that much confusing.

I'm really conflicted. I want to see this, but if the whole show, which is suppoed to be violent (?) is going to be as censored as ep 1, I dont know if I'll continue watching. I doubt that this is going to be popular enough for someone to buy and sub the DVD/BR.

Yeah the censoring is pretty bad and maybe even worse than Tokyo Ghouls. But I wonder if either of those shows will ever have an uncensored version.

I don't understand why the censoring is a problem. I didn't even notice it. Do you really need to see an explicit scene to know what's happening? Does it really add to the value for you?

Censoring will become a problem if the whole point of the show is being censored (its like a hentai being censored until you can not see any sex scenes). It lost its beauty. I don't even know what anime i watch anymore. So many black bar and some scenes turn black the whole screen. Its pretty annoying. The viewers will failed to understand how much fear that the terraformars brought to the annex 1 crews. They only see pretty images and suddenly people lying on the floor. Move on...

My humble opinion.

I suppose that's true, if you're only watching a show because you expect it to be gory and uncensored. As people who watch hentai aren't watching for the plot or anything but sexually stimulating scenes to get off on usually.

For me personally though, I never even noticed the censoring in Tokyo Ghoul (well I did a bit in the last episodes of Tokyo Ghoul) nor Terra Formars until it was pointed out to me. Maybe it's because I'm not hyper-critical, but to me it's no big deal at all. I could still sense the danger and fear and understand the situation, as I said I never even noticed the censoring. Maybe it depends on the person I guess... but I think "they only see pretty images and suddenly people lying on the floor" is a bit of an exaggeration; I don't think it's ever unclear what's going on.

^hehe yah maybe a lil exaggeration. I think if i never read the manga, i too will not mind the censorship. Heard a lot of Tokyo Ghoul too but have not read/watch it.

In fact those who really against the poorly slap black bar censorship are those who read the manga, because the anime failed to live their expectation. Never mind the censorship even the pace also awful (skip so many flashback for char development)

Cheers.

The censorship in Terraformers is only there to make us buy the blu rays obviously, its not that the content is a problem for the tv station.

If you want further proof of this, Parasyte just aired on NTV (a network channel like NBC in the US) and it got away with a head chomp, a dog being eaten and intestines being shown on a drying rack. And its all uncensored. No black bars anywhere.

Terraformers is only censoring its gore because it wants otakus to buy the blu rays. And it makes sense since the channel Terraformers airs on shows anime geared towards an otaku audience. The network can get away with gore but they censor it cause they want the blu rays to be the main selling point.

While I agree that there's a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff going on, it's the most logical thing to do from the producer's point of view. For the major part, they make anime for profit and the making part isn't free, it costs.

So, all in all, I don't blame them. What I do blame them for, however, is adapting the manga while they know the restrictions of their time slots. Madhouse went ahead and adapted Parasyte because they knew they have limited restrictions on their part (probably Rx).

Also, studios should really stop lazily adapting from sources with poor content. They should know by now that it brings very little (if at all) profit, most of the time.

The censoring is annoying, but what are you gonna do? I just deal with it. It's not like the censoring is going to change the story in any way, nor is it actually part of the show. It's the channel it broadcasts on.

I'm not going to miss out on a good sci-fi series just because of censoring. That's lame.

ohh boy, there goes the rating of this show.. Its a sci fi with action and the later being more of the two since now they have landed on mars.. its just going to be bam bam from here on and if you censor so much that you dont even know whose head came of of or whose antenna got cut off for which you play a guessing game all the time and in the end drop a cliffhanger as if the whole episode didnt already turn into one bcoz of censoring, i dont know where its going from here on

and people who are saying they are fine with it dont actually mean it, its obvious at least to me.

There's nothing wrong with censorship IF it's done tastefully. I don't need to see the bloody remains or someone's head getting ripped off. Blood splattering while the actual scene is done off screen? Okay. But with Terra Formars, that's not the case. They literally place black screens everywhere to the point that you can't even tell what the hell is going on. The same thing happened with TG, which is why I just decided to just read the manga for both anime instead.

And you can't be serious about there being no black squares lol.

There's plenty of networks that can show gore in America. AMC does. So do a few others. Cable TV can do whatever they want here technically, but they are reliant on advertisers which often dictate the type of content which can happen.

I had heard great things about this series before the anime began airing. However after all this censoring, it's not really motivating me to watch the rest of the series. Although the censoring in Tokyo Ghoul was bad enough, at least you could somewhat tell what was happening. But this is just overkill. I will start reading the manga, however.

ya, ive been wondering why its ok to black out half the show.
If you know your going to have to censor it,
just show something else, or change the scenes so that you dont half to look directly at the mature content.

What do you mean something else? And they don't want to change the scene because that's how the scene is supposed to be, how it was in the manga. The censoring is only there for the tv broadcast, it won't be on the DvDs or BDs.
