I think your best bet for survival is to run it over, I know there's the "it could of been a person" argument but why are they on a road where cars are going 100mph anyway? they'll cause an accident :(

I knew someone who hit a deer and it ended up kicking through his front windshield and hit him multiple times in the face and he died so yeah I'm gonna swerve to avoid hitting a deer. Srs

Because they could potentially die if they hit the animal while there's a much lower risk of dying if they just get off the road.

Because not everyone thinks "dinner" when they hit something.

Because, when you're going 100mph, you don't have a lot of time to think before you can react. The only thing that is able to go through your brain is, "Thing moving at me fast, must avoid!"

And it does depend on the animal. If it's large enough, swerving to avoid it is the better option. For example, when it's car vs moose, car doesn't fare too well.
Somewhere, there is an unplugged toaster sitting on a Coleman stove.

Does it feel lonely?

Probably because it'd possibly damage their car and possibly themselves too.

If it's large enough people will instinctively try to avoid a heads-on crash. So no, it's not that they're thinking about the wellbeing of the animal in that instinct, if that was the case we wouldn't have so many dead squirrels on the road. There's all sort of complications that can happen. Cars behind you, the unpredictability of the animal's motion as you crash into them, etc.

Actually, running a dear over could be even more dangerous because of its size, so the first priority should be to break, dip and honk to get either the animal out of the way as soon as possible and/or to stop the car before hitting it.

btw: in the first place, there are not many roads in the world which allow 100mph or around 160kph legally due to speed limits, in fact, you would only have the chance on German Highways.
And there's a much lower chance of viewing a reindeer on a high frequented highway compared to a smaller country road.

The drivers deserve to get hurt if they are going 100mph

Deer are tough so you either have to speed up to get by or swerve. If you're in a small car then that's even worse.

You may die hitting a dear because of it's big size at High Speed, Insurance or No Insurance, Damage to vehicle (Which kinda relates to Insurance).

id say its mostly because swerving to avoid something is a reflex... you dont just see something large in the road and keep going straight at it like nothings gonna fucking happen

Mostly instinct but I would guess so you don't have to pay for that dent on your front bumper and to make it worse, you have to drag the animal off the road.

Guess that tree on the side of the road doesn't at all dent your car.

If I still had my truck, I wouldn't think twice about just pressing forward.

Even in smaller cars, you're usually better powering on through. Slowing down makes it more likely that they'll end up through your windshield if you hit them and swerving, while a normal reaction, is usually more dangerous. Your car hits a deer, your car is more likely to win. Your car hits a tree, the tree always wins.

Who would want to run something like a deer/animal over? That's cruel, most people would not think of themselves and try to avoid it in any way possible.

Because if you hit a fucking deer going 80 km/h, not only is your car going to be fucked, but you are likely going to be injured as well.
Not to mention it's a split second decision.

i cant get over the kids in this thread who say theyd run over a person.

thats not how the law works in america.

people always have the right of way. if you hit someone crossing the road and you werent going EXACTLY the speed limit, ur ass is going to jail for negligent homicide

Deer are not protected by law.

You can however, in some places be charged for hunting out of season if you kill one and take it home to cook/eat rather than leaving it as roadkill. Pretty sure I saw a thread about that a few months back in current events.

Considering I drive a 94' MX-5, I'd probably die if I hit even only a rabbit, nevermind a fucking deer... Or a moose, because Canada.

My car handles like a go-kart anyway and I know how to drive, so assuming I've seen the animal, I'll avoid it for sure, lol...

Not only will you be sacrificing two seconds of your life but you may as well be sacrificing your entire life because of that tree, pole, barrier, cliff just off to the side of the road.

This is what you don't wanna do.

See how that deer rolled up on the windshield when they slammed on the brakes? That's why you don't slow down.

It's all because Deffrollas are nerfed to shit now that they only wound against Death Or Glory reactions, and so no one bothers taking them anymore.

If this was back in 4th edition we'd just gas on and grind those critters to a slushy red paste.

I brake and lightly swerve for any living thing (that I can see, let's not get literal, here,) that crosses my car's path. I treat them all the same, be it a skunk, dog, squirrel, or toddler.

If the obstacle in question is human, I will risk my own life and crash if necessary to avoid impact.

If an animal of any sort, I will only swerve as far as it is safe to, I will not endanger my own life to spare it.

So far, I have not killed anything on the road, but I did run over a raccoon's tail. I felt bad about that for weeks. :(

Animals cross my path at least twice a month, usually more, as I deliver food and there's quite a few narrow roads.

Feel free to look up something along the lines of 'car hit deer' in Google images, OP.
Keep scrolling.
No, keep scrolling.

While it might be ideal to stop instead of swerve, it's all about how much time you have to react. Others have said this as well.

New tyres = More grip = More risk of flipping

With that said, you won't flip unless you hit a curb/bank/whatever in the right angle. Or you're driving a Suzuki Sidekick or something. Don't drive those.
