better quality, storage in case of apocalypse, watching on devices not connected to the internet, speeding up the video, easier to browse episodes for *that one scene*, do some misc. wizardry with the file, having dub, sub and raw all at once, arguably easier to keep track of what you're watching, choice of subs, feeling superior to people who stream because of these minor differences

^ This.

But seriously:
1. Use of better codecs give higher quality for less bandwidth than streaming.
2. You get to keep it to watch again later at any time.
3. You can transfer it to your mobile devices and watch on the go without needing constant a fast, stable internet connection.
4. You can still download it if your connection is not fast/stable enough to support streaming.
5. You get to choose whose subs you want - often, there are better/more accurate subs available than the ones on the streaming sites.
6. It's free (other than what you pay for your internet bandwidth)

Not necessarily. Especially if you consider that most people watch in 480p.

I do both. I usually stream, but I also download a few episodes of shows I'm planning on watching later so I can have them in high quality whether my internet is working or not, and then delete them after I watch them. I rarely rewatch shows so there's no point in me keeping the downloads. If I like a show enough to rewatch more than once or twice, I'll buy it. The only downloads I tend to keep are movies.

Higher quality. Not everything is available for streaming in decent quality or even available at all. Don't have to worry about internet going down.

If you download in 480p you're an ultra-pleb.

Err...because its more convenient and you dont have to buffer and wait for the video to load when you dont have a fast connection. Plus you get better quality. Everyone knows that.

Solely because of quality. I always delete the anime after I finish watching anyway. Unless it is 8/10 or higher.

Because it's hipster cool to download anime that you'll end up deleting after watching it once and never touch again.

Because I have 36TB of aggregate HDD space.

And because 720p is my bottom acceptable quality, and even when a stream is 720p it is noticeably fuzzier.

If there was a Steam-like service for anime with every anime in stock, I'd put so much money into Japan the yen will skyrocket. Conversely, I'm not at all interested in a Netflix-alike.

I pay to own, not rent.

And streaming is just wasteful in terms of bandwith, downloading lets you buffer weeks and months in advance and cut the searching/ hunting part of anime watching down by 60x.

Why download? Because downloading gives you a superior experience. You download for quality purposes and last time I checked 1080p was always and will be better than 480p. I almost forgot 480p new anime exist LOL,this is not 2004......

Streaming usually as bad quality and if you're internet speed is too low.
You get my drift, either way I download things because!

Because!

That's my answer and if that doesn't satisfy,
then I'll just say: Why not!

Are you saying that because it costs money for you to watch streaming or is it just another reason to add to the list? I can understand the higher quality/no internet argument but the free idea just isn't adding up to me

The only reason I download anything is to take screenshots. If I'm not interested in screens, streaming is fully acceptable. But screenshots of streams tend to suck.
