Aand, Tohru win's another Souma- more like person's heart. As expected of her.
"Chala-chalala♪ Chala-chalala♪" though, Kyo going "what's that song" was hilarious
When Kisa cried and finally spoke, that scene was powerful. Her going to school again was touching.
Seriously tho, why is Kyo the most popular character according to MAL? Tohru is the one who's been leaving the strongest impressions since episode 1. On the other hand, Kyo has only shown that he can be somewhat annoying whenever he left an impression.
its because of Kyo’s backstory and development. He has the best development of all the characters in my opinion. In season two you will see.

Hmm I see. Thanks for the answer.

Oh God, gotta protect Kisa-chaaaaaaaan! She's just too precious. I really hope she's ok and can make some friends from now on.

Really touching episode with a very heartwarming conclusion. Really liked how the "bullying" topic was approached and handled. Not to mention that the development Yuki received was very appreciated as well. Especially during the scene where he decided to open up to Kisa. The way he helped her by using his own experience to encourage her to try her hardest was simply beautiful.

Guess I'm the oddball here. Along with Momiji's episode, I'm disappointed with how they deliver Tohru to us. This episode has driven it home for me that it's not taking care of how they present our protagonist, and it's probably not going to get any better, at least in this season... For example, her wailing loudly at the end, with comedic effect, honestly took me by surprise and felt out of place. I miss the impact that her words and inner monologue should have instead of casually passing over them. That's my biggest critique. You can't have a Furuba without a Tohru.

Kisa took a backseat to Yuki and because of that her story doesn't have the memorable heaviness that it should. Actually, it feels like everyone is taking a backseat to Yuki? The balance of who gets attention and when is way off. It's affected Kyo's charm, too. I was looking forward to this episode since it was one of my favorites in the old one, the way it handled the subject of bullying was mature yet kind to Kisa. Reactions to her here were a little comedic, but comedy is something this version doesn't know how to handle, so it falls flat. The angles are weird sometimes, like when Yuki was looking at Tohru and naked Kisa from far away so you only see his hand, but the sparkly smoke remained on the floor. Wtf? The care the old one took into caring for Kisa by having a piece of cloth draped over her was a small, loving detail. And it coming from Tohru showed so much about her heart.

If I were to describe this version, it's a shallow and cold imitation of what Fruits Basket actually is. I love the series so I just cling onto a small hope that they treat the second act with more care.

Yuki was the MVP this episode; that was some humanistic insight beyond his years, and not the popular sort people often preach, either.

Kisa didn't deserve to be bullied. She probably should've gone to a different school instead.

I didn't expect Yuki to be the one who saves the day.

I'm starting to appreciate and like Tohru more and more in each episodes. She's really a good person. I also like the part when she saw Haru soaking wet bcs of rain, she didn't hesitate to wipe him using her hanky (yeap little things like that) and she doesn't seem to mind when Kisa follows her around.

This one is really cute too omg

Hope to see more of Kisa in the next episodes

I've been watching the series with a friend, and the two of us have enjoyed every episode so far. This episode really touches on a sensitive topic, which I think many people have experienced in some way: bullying. I was certainly not pleased with Kisa's teacher telling her to "try harder to make friends," because if it were that simple, she wouldn't have been so hurt. There are certainly people at school who are just plain mean, and if they absolutely do not want to change, they won't. -Although, I also understand that the teacher probably does not know the full story, but it's still not right to make assumptions like that. Hopefully, Kisa has a happier school life, because it's not fair for her to be bullied for her appearance.

I also appreciate Tohru for the way she spoke with Kisa's mother. When you're bullied, you can feel ashamed and you don't always know how to talk about it. But someone who tells you, "It's okay," can make a difference where you feel loved and supported. People aren't generally taught how to embrace their vulnerabilities. I'm glad that Yuki also reflected on himself, and he decided to take the position of student council president. It's easy to see any bad qualities in yourself and hate yourself, while I agree that you can begin to love yourself if someone else does. People's comments can really highlight the traits you have that you never noticed. <3

I was also touched by Momoji's empathy. He's so mature. I still feel sad when I think of Momoji's mother rejecting him, yet he's fully accepted his situation for the way it is. He doesn't feel jealous towards others who have doting mothers, and he can place himself in other people's shoes. - It was sad to hear that other members of the Soma family (Hatsuharu and Kyo) also experienced bullying for their appearances. :( And I think Momoji wasn't bullied for his appearance because folks in the story tend to be nervous around "foreigners" (like the gang who got intimidated when they saw Momoji at the end of episode 16, and ran away after he spoke German).

It sucks that small children are brainwashed or ill educated at home, and have a Hive mentality and start to question and not accept things that are different or queer. And therefore others suffer for their ignorance. I think its more sad the turmoil as they age and still are not willing to accept and adapt to the times.

that was great. not being able to tell anyone about your hardships, shutting yourself in because of it, and i love how they didnt beat around the bush with "learn to love yourself" because thats just utter bullshit. how do you "learn to love yourself" "find something to love about yourself" if i knew what and how to do those i would've done it a long time ago.

The little tiger girl is so cute! It’s upsetting that she was getting bullied, but I’m happy she opened up and decided to change. Yuki also came to his realization, which was pretty wholesome as well!

Kisa being bullied because of her appearance is a realistic and sad situation, where its wholesome seeing Tohru, Yuki and the rest helping her out. On a sidenote, I kinda hoped Kyo would've helped out more considering they are both feline animals.

once again i felt that a sohma family member episode not about yuki or kyo is concentrating more on yuki/kyo than the new character, this time it's yuki.
kisa is very cute, but i didn't felt her story because of yuki braveness. that's probably one of the things i do not like about shoujo anime - boys who acting like girls, lol.

feeling like this season is on downhill, hope it to go up with the next episodes.

I've never been bullied or ostracized, but I know all too well what it's like to feel like you've lost your voice and can no longer reach anyone. With each character, I feel like my own vulnerabilities & weaknesses are reflected in fragments through their circumstances. Yuki's monologue on self-hatred really hit hard since I've struggled with that feeling since I was 8 or 9. I even remember in high school, the popular teacher told me to "love myself for who I am" and it made me wanna punch a locker as soon as I left the class.

But now, later in my life, I've come to appreciate how precious that feeling of self-forgiveness and acceptance can be for those who are so hard on themselves. It's not about shallow encouragement - it's about a journey through life and understanding your own flaws in the grand scheme.

The solution to the problem is wrong: She is being mobbed (at least in my translated version), so the solution should be to switch schools or get home-schooled or anything, but not to go back to the place that hurt her in the first place, which was the classroom if I got that correctly.
I wholeheartedly disagree with how they solved this problem.

Yeah I think we’ve all experienced bullying at some point in our lives and Kisa is no exception to the rule apparently. Just the fact that she gets bullied just because of how she looks is so relatable and sad at the same time, if it weren’t for Tohru, Yuki and the others helping her, she wouldn’t have been able to a better school life I feel. The more I think about it I feel Tohru would’ve been a big help during my school life, the end of my school life that is.

Otherwise as with most episodes in Fruits Basket, it’s a very wholesome episode overall.

This was a realistic depiction of bullying, and that's what makes this episode tragic and brilliant. The kids just endlessly teasing her and picking on her for everything. The teacher pretty much blaming Kisa and saying, "just practice self love and try harder!" Yes, that'll solve the problem...

Luckily, I did have a group of friends to help me through the hard times, but seriously, fuck teachers and bullies.

I loved this version so much. But I do have a bit of a mixed feeling about Yuki's speech.

It's different for everyone for sure, but as someone who went through similar experiences as a kid as Kisa, I don't think what the teacher said in the note is absolute without some truth, the idea that self love is important can be a thing you can pull from yourself, it's just so much harder when you see yourself as the problem, but even then you can find areas of yourself where you truly are someone that you are enough and the people that tell you are not are wrong.

This said I also agree with Yuki in the sentiment that you truly need people (especially people you care about) to help you know that you are loved and not unworthy of love. But I think Kisa was in a predicament where if a teacher truly cared about her, they wouldn't just write them a letter telling them about self love, but actually help her to see it within themselves, and also stop her bullies.

It's more of a case where the situation is the true case of not understanding and for that alone Yuki is more correct than the teacher, but I don't believe that you cannot find self-love for yourself even when others can't in you, it's hard but I don't believe it's unrealistic, but it's different for everyone.

Kisa story made me cry. I KnoW bullying can make you feel like you worthless about yourself that you not even can't love being you anymore! Self hate is not something you can fix so easy like Yuki said. The episode gived me the feels.
I think we also go to see Hiro-kun soon!
@shirley1994 Agree I think that's probably the point I've been missing, it's not that self love isn't obtainable, but how can you see it when there's so much self hate.

I think a part of me just never fully understood Yuki demanding that the teacher was wrong in the scene, when in truth for me it's a case of the teacher simply not understanding Kisa's case one bit and in turn not understanding her self-hatred in the moment.

I find that what the teacher said is super important because always waiting for the solution to come from the outside makes it an anomaly, there's no guarantee that someone will love you. While waiting for someone to come pick you, are you going to be self loathing, all the while. Yuki's dismissal of what the teacher said is a surprise to me, even if you want to be appreciated by someone you have to start the process by loving things about yourself and standing in that truth because even if someone picks you, what if all of sudden they no longer like you or things about you, will you go back to self loathing? Without loving yourself, you will build a false confidence that be easily broken by the person who gave you "power" in the first place. I think Yuki's speech was a bit flawed and one dimensional.
