Forever said: How does Kanon not fit those criteria? At least the place in the score board proves that it appeals to many different people. Of course a minority will think differently. As for myself I also think some anime there doesn't deserve the ratings, but that's democracy. Based on that theory, this would also mean that Code Geass R2 should be watched by everyone, while there are in fact lots of people who hate it. In the same way, I wouldn't really recommend Kanon to someone who doesn't like romance (now that you mention it, Baccano indeed doesn't fit the bill either, since it has a few scenes that may be a bit too gory for the more sensitive viewer out there). |

Well, I don't think there is an anime that hasn't been hated by some people. But you are right, "everyone" is a pretty difficult word to match. We should stick to anime that has high ratings and cause no problems for younger audiences or easily offended people. |

hmm well Death Note, obviously! because it is something everyone would enjoy, even those who doesn't like to watch anime that much. hmm what else...well if you want realistic stuff and not anything too weird, and if you like to laugh and enjoy romantic drama Nana is perfect for you ^^ but first of all i'd recommend people to watch anime movies. Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Moving Castle.... |

psgels said: So wait? Has this now simply turned into a "list and pimp your favourite series"-thread? My take is that series everyone should have seen should be series of a good quality that appeals to many different people. Baccano for example fits this bill for me. Dennou Coil, Bonen no Xamdou or if you want something older Patlabor are other examples of this, imo. Unfortunately you can't expect people not to do this (forcing our preferences on others), I guess it's our way of accumulating more allies so we can beat the living shit out of people who don't agree with us. I do agree with what you've said about accessibility (why I can't agree to GTA4 getting a 10 almost everywhere, but that's another rant), but then I can see some people having trouble understanding patlabor (I've only actually seen movie 1 and 2), but I thoroughly enjoyed them all the same. I stick with Studio Ghibli, but that's just the easy way out. I guess that's what sites like this are for, finding more anime that conform to our tastes |

Err... Isn't this more about which anime are worth watching because of the importance it has vis-a-vis comprehending the medium, rather than what everyone would like*? The classics and cults, the new ground-breakers (though judging that would be hard, I can't really point anyone out with any confidence), the epitomes of clichés and the gems of critical opinion. That's how I took it. *Because something like a show everyone would like is nonsense. |

Cowboy Bebop Samurai Champloo Kaiji Really, that's it. Those are three anime which anyone who has any interest whatsoever in the genre absolutely has to watch, regardless of whether they end up liking or hating them. Beyond that, there's nothing I would consider mandatory viewing. There are several anime which I consider as good as or better than my three bolded choices above, but they're not for everyone. |

Every anime viewer should watch any of the Miyazaki movies or Cowboy Bebop. Cowboy Bebop, not only is what every anime fan should watch, it's what every person should watch to understand that all anime is not the same. Miyazaki movies I don't need to explain everyone should one. Honorable Mentions: Dragon Ball Z Death Note FMA Akira Ghost in the Shell |

Hmm, give it everyone likes different genre's I suppose everyone should see one anime for each different genre to test the waters and find what they like. My recommendations for different genre's/types would be the following: Slice of Life - Ano Hana Psychological/Thriller - Death Note Comedy/School - Azumanga Daioh Magical Girl - Madoka Magica or Cardcaptor Sakura Historical - Dantalian no Shoka Sci-fi - No.6 (I haven't personally watched this one yet, but I've heard quite a bunch of good things about it for the Sci-fi genre) Shounen - Hunter x Hunter Horror - Jigoku Shoujo Moe - K-ON! Mystery/Drama - Gosick Vampire/Supernatural - Shiki! Harem - Shuffle! Shoujo - Vampire Knight (I'd recommend the manga more) or Kimi ni Todoke I don't have enough of a preference for Ecchi or Seinen to give a decent recommendation. Then in general I'd recommend Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood for everyone to see. |

Sci-fi - No.6 (I haven't personally watched this one yet, but I've heard quite a bunch of good things about it for the Sci-fi genre) No. 6 is one big troll, after the first few episodes it makes you think it is going to be good, then it goes down hill, before finally trolling you with the ending. |

For those of you saying Lucky Star in this thread..please..no..the opening to that anime alone will scare people away. Well anime that everyone-which I assume means the general population and not just the anime fans-should watch are Death Note, DBZ, FMA, FMA B, Monster, Higurashi, Yu-gi-oh (if one can stand the dub), Grave of the Fireflies, Akira, and that's really it... |

@kickthebucket, I was just about to make a recommendation for that show because I finished it earlier today! ^_^ It bounced me all over the walls. It was funny throughout, as well as serious at times, and sometimes emotionally pulling. I'm glad no one died in the end, and that everyone lived a decent life afterward, even Sato I hope no Otaku becomes like Sato was when playing that RPG game |

-Stein's;Gate For an original and amazing story with awesome and creative characters. -Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Because it know how to masterfully play with the viewer's feelings, and even if the mysterious plot that thickens more and more, it's still is easy to understand in the end, and you realize how simple to understand everything from the very beginning it was. |

Guys/Gals, shouldn't you say why these anime should be watched by everyone? I'm reading posts here trying to figure out a good series to watch, and I'm finding that a ton of posts are just stating series. That doesn't help me or anyone else taking this thread seriously. If you think the series is so great that everyone should see it, can't you at least also post why you think that is? |

I'd have to say Clannad. Yes, the first few episodes can be boring, but it teaches you a real life lesson. It taught me to keep my family close, it taught me that even people like Yukino (I believe that's her name) who seem like nothing more then someone there to kill time have their own backstory and misery. It even got me into believing that there is something supernatural out there, you just need to believe in it. Some may call it boring, overrated, harem, etc. but honestly, I don't think it's any of that. At all. I'm also gonna throw out School Days. YES, it had an unexpected ending, lots of ecchi, lots of haters, etc. but it's so different from your everyday romance and it really shows what love can do to a person and how screwy people can become if you hurt them to the point of no return. |
Dont touch me I'm in despair. |
