Lately, I've been spending lots of time just watching my "Plan to watch"-list and I can never decide on what to watch... So I've decided that I'm just going to watch everything in alphabetical order. xD

I decide by whatever mood I'm in, really. However, that's why I have so much unfinished stuff... xD Sometimes I'll want a light-hearted anime, then something serious, then something funny, and then something that's action-y and a bit gory... x_x

I actually like to read the reviews alot on here. I get carried away sometimes & read 5+ reviews for a series. It gives me a better feeling for something though

When it comes to anime online, I usually focus on the current season's anime. If I'm watching 4 or more shows at a time, I don't throw in anything from a previous season or year. I need to balance my anime-watching time with everything else that goes on in my life.If I'm not watching a lot of new anime online, I might watch something that I've been holding off for a while.

As for DVDs, I usually focus on series that I really want, and that's usually about 2 anime at a time. I don't make any blind purchases and waste money on a show that could possibly be bad. I do some research, look up reviews, and find the store that sells the DVDs I want for the most affordable prices.

Thirdly, since I have ComcastOnDemand, I can go to the Funimation Anime section and see which shows they're posting for free. If the anime seems interesting, I'll watch it.

I look for those rate around 8.2 ~ 7.5

those are the anime that most like and a number don't, which mean they are usually slightly different from others. (That's what I think)

Hey ^_^ That's how I found Ghost Hunt and Shigofumi that I enjoyed so much ^_^

If it's the time for a new season, I always watch episode one. Otherwise, I just raid my hard drive for anime I haven't seen and download the sequels, etc.

That reminds me, I have no free space left.

1. Random-click the anime series list on the streaming site.
2. Read the description.
3. Drop it after the opening
4. Check the Mal top favorites list (which is more accurate than the normal list - sequels/prequels tend to get a higher score there)
5. Read a reccomendation or two
6. Forget everything Ive done and watch the first anime I see on this forum.

Self-explanatory title!

Just wondering how you guys choose what anime to watch.

For me, basically three things: ratings, instincts, & visual/animation quality. I do take into consideration recommendations/reviews and the hype, but for the most part its those 3.

Out of the three though I think the visuals and ratings are a must for me. I don't care much about genre since I'm pretty much open to anything except for full out sexual shit lol. Everything else does play a little part in my decision but again it comes down to the first three I mentioned

I use pretty much every aspects like reviews/recommendation, Quality/visuals, ratings and I then I usually just make a decision on how I feel on it (so yeah by instinct xD) .I try to watch a few eps also.

I follow my instinct, most of the times.
If that anime seems interesting because of its plot/visuals/aura/whatever, then I read some recommendations for it, and I will most likely watch it if an anime that I like appears in the recs list.
I usually read reviews after, and not before watching an anime, because they're subjective and filled with spoilers. I don't really care about the genre, as I'm open-minded. Neither I care about the ratings and the hype, for countless reasons.

Instincts and sometimes even Genre. But I give mostly any new Anime a chance by watching at least 1 or 2 episodes.
For older Ones, that I missed I mostly read some of the plot to decide for myself if they're interesting or not.

I write down the names of every anime I haven't seen yet on small pieces of paper, and then I put them paper pieces all in a hat, and whatever I draw out is what I watch next. It's a pain in the ass to write them all down every time I wanna start something new, but it's worth the effort like 4 times out of 10.

I write the anime I plan to watch on a piece of paper. Then I hover my hand over it and STAB a knife in it. Then I use common sense to decide between the animes that are still readable because they aren’t covered with blood.

mostly looking at the genre, and if it looks interesting. animation quality is a factor too but the story and characters have to be appealing to me. I think some shows around 5-6 can be decent to watch even but reviews can be a factor.

Instincts take the lead!

I just watch pictures and get a feel for the overarching style the visuals are trying to present me with. Colour palettes, "camera" angles, character clothing/hair styles, scope etc.
And then if I am intrigued, I read up on story. If it doesn't make me cringe, I look at some footage and then decide whether or not to get it.

Usually by hype, genre, or recommendations. Occasionally I'll browse through anime and I'll find one that has a good description, and put it on my PTW list.

I'll watch watch shows for all of these reason, except voice actors, that's just ridiculous to me. Related to that though, you left out a pretty obvious answer, to me anyway, that being people who actually matter to the production of an anime, such as the director or writers, or the studio. Having said that Kon Satoshi was the only individual I really had an affection for, and he's dead, so I'd basically have to give a negative on that. I'll watch an anime for it's studio though.

yeah you're definitely right. The animators/producers themselves really make the anime shine when it is directed properly. i guess you can include that into visuals/animation though :D

i think plot/synopsis could be part of review although technically your right. shouldve thought more about the poll haha

I have no idea. I just watch what I feel like watching, even if there's something "better" that I could spend time on instead. Usually I just pick out stuff from my PTW list and watch whatever looks most appealing to me at the time. Doesn't really matter what genre it is or what year it's from. If I want thought-provoking anime, I'll find something like that to watch. If I want to relax, I'll pick out a slice of life.

FAIL
you don't know the plot of anime unless you watch it.
Even if you read aplot summery/ spoilers it is still out of context.

Out of context? I don't see how a plot summary can be out of context as long as it's written properly. An out of context plot summary isn't a plot summary at all then heh. I generally don't have much trouble determining plot beforehand.

Of course, I'll grant you some descriptions I've seen for various animes leave A LOT to be desired. Can't think of an example off the top of my head though.

When I'm deciding what anime to watch next, I look at my 100+ entry plan to watch list.

How do things get onto the list? Whenever I hear about a new anime, I look it up and if it seems like it could ever appeal to me on some level, I put it on the list. I hear about anime from discussions here and on certain other websites, I see the charts for upcoming seasons, and I look at recommendations for similar shows whenever I finish one and enjoyed it.

i first look at genre...
prefer comedy/adventure and it is better to not be ecchi,yaoi,yuri,hentai,mecha,sci-fi
and after that is Visuals/Animation Quality (better to have many bishi)
