The goblins are evolving HARD! And each time they grew closer and closer to the "dark"-side. First we have the paladin, now the priest, each are religiously related to the "dark"-side. I haven't read the manga this far yet (and I don't read the LN either). So, I wonder whether we will have a goblin prophet, a goblin summoner, a goblin necro, or even worse, a goblin avatar in the future. Goblin avatar in particular would be nasty. A goblin possesing the will of the gods themselves.... yeuch! No longer a goblin, pretty much an eldritch horror at this point.

Story and dialogs might be fine but fight choreography is dubious at best.
Each time cunning and ferocious goblins just stand in place waiting for priestess finish talking with 'GoblinSlayer-sama' I almost die of cringe.
Is this franchise turn-based or what?

Welp, that was quite a disappointing to this season. The final fight was ... too easy ? This whole season was lackluster when compared to the first one. Happy to watch it, happy it's ended. I hope we'll have a third season, perhaps more bloody or at least with more actions (and not just frames :) )

I thought this ended on a good note since there wasn't a cliffhanger except for that noble guy vs. the knight that came in via ship. I liked this season about the same amount as the 1st season since there was some character growth, especially with Priestess. I also liked how Goblin Slayer's group grew closer and were even invited to a wedding.

However, there were many unanswered questions including what relationship, if any, the samurai guy in the OP has with GS (they do share the same red eye), which girl caught the bouquet, etc. Anyway, I thought the storyline and animation were good, and the character designs were fine although a bit different from season 1. I hope a season 3 is made/announced at some point.

Wait so did the goblins do the princess or not? Seeing that she was su battered up. Is she tainted or not? I need answers... xD
Also love how priestess when to her chainmail first.

Interesting ending. Got to see some sword maiden action and the other mobs.
Disappointed they used a different ED song, I love Kasumi no Muko e.

Sword Maiden appearing like that was epic!
The part with the noble and the knight felt like a teaser for the next arc at first, but I suppose it's just one of those little peeks at what's going on in the world, like with the Hero defeating the demon lord in season 1. This getting a 3rd season would be both surprising and unsurprising, with all these sequels being announced right after an anime finishes lately.
I feel bad for GS here, but yeah, this is the path he chose, and he's not going to waver. Him looking back on everything is so wholesome.

I think I enjoy Goblin Slayer more than most people. It just feels very atmospheric to me. Love both action and slice of life parts. I like the artstyle of season 1 way more though. Also the OP by Mili is really good. I hope she gets to make OPs for more anime in the future.

Btw I heard that 2 volumes got completely skipped from the anime (between season 1 and the movie). Were they important? Would be cool if they got adapted too someday.
@Embient The two volumes are volume three and four. Nothing too important. In 3 we get the origin of Goblin slayers mambele throwing knife and the story of the rhea who got demoted and run off is brought full circle. Volume 4 is a collection of short stories set in the verse. it's all character development but I think one got adapted in the first season. The one about the rookie warrior losing his sword and having to kill rats with a club to get it back or something.

I didn't get enough action from Goblin Slayer this S2 than we did in S1... but it was still a fulfilling world building.
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

FUCK ME, THIS EPISODE WAS AMAZING!

I REALLY THOUGHT LIZARDMAN WAS GOING TO DIE THERE (like a total chad protecting the girls), AND PRIESTESS DID HER 2ND KILL EVER, AND IT WAS NO OTHER THAN A GREATER DEMON! (well, it was just his hand, but still counts lol)

THE SWORD MAIDEN SCENE WAS EPIC, AND "THE KNIGHT OF DIAMONDS" WAS REALLY COOL TOO!

WHAT A WAY TO END A QUEST AND THE ENTIRE SEASON!

I WILL MISS THIS ADVENTURER PARTY SO MUCH, PLEASE SEASON 3 COME SOON!!! 😭😭😭

PD: PRIESTESS MY BELOVED, FOREVER ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS, I LOVE HER SO MUCH ❤️

That final arc kind of redeemed the season for me, but this still had ton ofs problems. The animation was still shit, TONS of off-model drawing and completely uninspired direction. I'll take the occasional CGI goblin slayer from season 1 any day over this.

@kuroneko99 yeah those are AI recommendations allright.. grimgar fits though. But Berserk and AoT are not down to earth at all. I guess Berserk fits atleast for the 90s anime part.

Its just a shame we have billions isekai and fantasy shows yet Goblin Slayer, an utterly mediocre show, stands out by virtue of beeing a little different. Really a shame grimgar never got more content.

Will probably comment more on this later down the line at some point, but I have to just say for the time being that while it definitely still retained some of its redeeming features, the biggest disappointment of this second season for me was the alteration to the art style with the studio change. The change in visual appearance, which I registered as a definite downgrade, really took away something from the slightly more gritty and realistic feel season one had.

Season one had that and it blended well with the fact that in many ways the world of the series seemed to take place within a heightened reality - like within a game (since it's based on the tabletop roleplaying game D&D) and with characters who were on some level conscious of the fact that they were within a game or that their world had a certain gamification or gameplay aspects going on. From the references to the gods rolling dice in a literal sense to determine fate (of nations and kingdoms, individuals, etc.), to characters being referred to by their occupational titles and roles in adventuring parties versus more personal given first names. The appearance of the characters had a slightly more semi-realistic look which offset and balanced against that in a way which gave it a very fun and enjoyable feel. Felt like more realistic characters were struggling trapped in this crazy gameboard world. Whereas here, as I said in an earlier post on the sub-forum in a different thread topic, they basically neutered that subtle element of it by going with the slightly different but noticeable enough to be intrusive more airbrushed kawaii-fied generic look.

When judging the qualities of an anime, and that is a topic which comes up very often on MAL, I've made a point to say on many previous occasions that art style and animation are by far the least important major elements of an anime to me regarding what I value and prioritize in how I'll receive it and judge and evaluate it. So it's super rare that you'll ever see me go on about that being a troublesome enough element which detracted from one for me, but here it genuinely did. I just felt the change was absolutely awful, and that's a lamentable thing. In one respect, there's no use crying over spilled goblins' blood, but looking at it another way, I think it was a callous, not thought through decision and I do not like what it portends for the future of the series, if indeed it is a series which ever does go on to continue and get more seasons at any point in the future.

I also was not a fan of how there seemed to be a recurring tendency to cut away just at the moment when major battles were either going to fully start or start to get interesting. They would cut away from individual shots and sometimes from entire scenes, skipping to the end of a battle. Sometimes it seemed as if it was being done for censorship purposes to make it tamer and watered down, and sometimes for time and budgetary constraints of not wanting to have to animate too much motion and complex or fluid action sequences or not having enough time to fit into the episode (even though there usually wasn't anything else shown in any given episode which was so important and essential as to justify cutting out a bunch of action).

The first season is one I gave an 8/10 to and even long ago placed Goblin Slayer as a series in my Top 50 overall series on the basis of the first season alone (obviously, since the second wasn't out yet and the film from 2020 is just whatever and kind of a throwaway side story with a hefty amount of recap padding grafted onto it), whereas this season to me is more of a 6/10.

The reason for the lowered rating is definitely:

1.) Uglier, more unfitting art style which seemed to remove something of the spirit from the show
2.) Presumably censorship of action scenes
3.) Dulling down of action scenes, presumably for money and time

A season that went by without having a single cool goblin slaying fight. Seriously, what a disappointment. Not to mention the heavily downgraded art. I've heard that they skipped a whole story arc, so it makes sense why this season felt like they were going from place to place without much impact. No good character development, Priestess became more and more annoying without actually becoming a more interesting character. 4/10, probably the fairest rating I can give this. I will no doubt forget about this season a few days later after writing this. I won't be continuing the anime and might just probably check out the light novel if I want to get some more goblin slaying action because clearly the new studio can't provide it

Second season just didn't measure up to the first. Feels like the writer had a really solid plan of how to start the show but in the bigger picture it's felt like it's kind of wandering around not sure what its plot is, also feels like it's lost its overall trademark brutal style to a more generic fantasy feel. Had its decent moments but I don't feel confident in the momentum of the series after this season.

Agreed. A overall plot needs to develop or else the show is a bust. I get that he is Goblin Slayer and that he slays goblins… but we need an overarching story. There are still random bits with other heroes and villains that aren’t resolved. It’s also starting to feel like an isekai harem show at this point, so maybe to retain the classic OG dark fantasy, some main characters need to die. Overall, some good character development, and fight scenes never disappoint.

Saw the princess. Saw the chainmail. Grabbed the chainmail.

"You talking to me or the chainmail?"
"You can steal my heart, but not my chainmail!"
That actually made me laugh 😂

Compared to S1's Goblin Lord and the movie's Goblin Paladin, H A N D lacked the same final boss presence, but I appreciate the development that the Priestess went through.

Another season of goblincide would be cool, though at the moment I'm a bit disappointed. I expected a massive brawl with goblins in the final fight, but Sword Maiden's timely help was cool.

This season highlighted the Priestess' growth. However, it was tough emotionally engaging with the demon hand. Unlike the Lord and the Paladin, Hand lacked establishment, needing more of the demon cult.

He turned a terrified high priestess into someone who could (although barely) conquer her fear. A different climax, but he keeps adding more to the Goblin Slayer party. Sword Maiden and the Princess may join in the future.

In the end, he says nothing changes, but it's not entirely true. More goblin slayers join. The Princess, with political power, will grow up wanting to kill goblins.

In the last scene, the Farm Girl looks like she's going to be the mother of the next generation of goblin slayers. Time will tell, I guess 🤭

plotless season was plotless, there was not a single clear goal aside from going to a wedding.

I appreciate the character development of priestress and the quality screentime of our hyperactivity Elf, she is a true gem.
Goblin Slayer san is the person he is, but he got no character development at all, most of all having a helmet on the head all the time is unsanitary XD

It was an unnecessary second season without any importance.

Sword Maiden wanted nothing more than to be held by her goblin slaying hero lol. <3

I liked how the beginner wizard in the first arc of the season was kind off the opposite of Goblin Slayer. He had the same fate, sister killed by goblins, but chose to be different to Goblin Slayer. Whereas Goblin Slayer is bound to his traumatic past the Wizard is the opposite in that he figuratively put goblins behind him and instead becomes a regular adventurer. That is maybe why he dislikes Goblin Slayer so much. He doesn't want to be like him, shut down emotionally and in constant battle with the past.

Goblin Slayer laments this seemingly endless cycle of struggle against the goblins. Hopefully, in the future we'll see the story move towards a permanent solution to the goblin menace. Like banishing them to the moon somehow. That would be a happy ending for Goblin Slayer IMO.

This season spent a lot more time fleshing out the side characters as opposed to just slaying goblins (though we still got plenty of that). I enjoy seeing the characters grow and be more rounded. That will be capitalized well on in S3 I hope.

We already knew that Goblin Slayer hates goblins more than anything, and that was in season 1.
I was expecting something more, hoping that this Goblin situation must be rooted even deeper. Here we get to see the hand of an"Dark God" in the end. The confrontation was not much and ended pretty quickly.
For some reason, I don't like Cow Girl. Maybe her voice, which I really hate. That's it.

Average show.

Well its anything but one thing, with this eps, i finally realize how weak the GS and his party compared to Hero party or other legendary ppl's, ofc i never think GS party could stand a chance against Hero party and such, but i was think they can at least handle the same enemy that Hero and those legends usually battle with, by using the usual "strategy, wisdom, experience", but at the end of the day, they can't, they barely wins against one literal hand of greater demon, which is greater demon itself is mid enemy for legend ppl's, judged by the fact that Sword Maiden party can take down 2 greater demon easily. Anyways, Goblin Slayer is always great anime, strongly hope for S3(though i doubt S3 will ever came)

Lizards are cold blooded creatures, they cannot self regulate their own temperature, so they have to rely on things like the sun to warm up.
When they are too cold they are basically paralyzed and can die from hypothermia just like that.

It's nice to see nature "lore" being the actual lore for the races.

For anyone who is curious, LidenFilms was in charge of this season. Their other works include the modern adaptation of Arslan and Berserk 2016. I mean, they had Tokyo Revengers, too... yikes.

The episode is basically a culmination of the entire season's worst characteristics. The emotional stuff falls flat because it's never given the time it needs to breathe. Animation is stilted or just outright stills. Anyone praising this season with anything above a 6 and saying it was "great" either didn't watch the first season or is huffing enough copium to make huffing whippets look safe. It was a significant step down overall. Oh, and don't get me started on how those action scenes that were just stills included the main theme. I freaking remember the first time that theme hit. The red eye, the barely-functioning, broken GS struggling to remain standing, and how he strangled the goblin champion. It was hype despite how little happened in that scene. White Fox turned a simple moment of intense rage into an adrenaline rush.

And this season, the main theme was overused to make stills feel epic. Dear lord, how can anyone look at that and think it's comparable to Frieren or JJK s2, or anything else from this season? Or, that it somehow surpasses those?

Ayo, those two twists were really fun and surprising. Firstly there was the one with unexpected boss fight; then, we had even more unexpected sight of Sword Maiden leading in person the whole army (and a dragon) to the rescue. Epic stuff worthy of being in the final episode of a season.

Heh, so Princess started seeing Priestess as a role model of some sort. Nice.
Speaking about nobles, wasn't that overpowered Diamond Knight actually the king (Princess' big bro) in disguise?

I enjoyed this season. It wasn't as good as the first one, but I had more fun than while watching the Goblin's Crown movie. I'd love to see Season 3's announcement.
