That Junko solo (where the letterbox moved to 4:3) on the roof was pure genius.

I know Junko and Ai make the perfect combo and the authors themselves love it, but I don't really like how their literally every noticeable appearance in the plot is either interaction or opposition to each other. With each episode like this, I start to forget that these are two unique characters, and not a duet, combo, ship or something else. The writers also love Saki and Sakura's interactions, but their episodes have never suppressed the girls in favor of that interaction.

Tae encouragement is what we need most rn. She really upped the team with that drum beats and team power. And she spoke a bit clearer than before.

Also the new Iron Frill don't know what's coming to them when they face the wrath of Saga Franchouchou.
When someone asks me why I like anime, I'd say Just Because.

So Ai was definitely starting to listen to Junko when they walked in on her using the computer in the beginning. Same opening notes she played on the roof.

This episode was fun. Building up more character for Junko and Ai, and not going to lie, I want the Junko x Ai ship to sail so....

I cannot understand why it does not generate more controversy that someone resembles someone who has recently passed away.

Does anyone know what year is the era Junko mentions that he belonged to?

I mean, it's been about ten years since her passing, realistically speaking a similar idol appearing after a decade would be fodder for conspiracy theories irl, but not like, serious discussion. Then again, pulling the "realism" argument when discussing an anime is a bit silly in and of itself lmao

as for Junko, afaik she died in the early 80s, so most of her career would've been thru the 70s

I mean that's just the nature of narrative foils, innit, they come in pairs. That's the whole point of foils, to compare and contrast two characters, to highlight their differences despite their seemingly similar circumstances, and that's exactly what zombieland saga has been doing with these two - and it looks like they'll be leaning even more into that this arc.
Can't really see how that makes them less of an unique individual, when their differences are constantly being put front and centre.

So unique that when Saki gets an episode, it's basically a Saki story, but any focus on Junko or Ai is "Junko and Ai episode." Even almost all the discussion here is about them as a pair.

Again, this doesn't make them less unique. I feel like i'm repeating myself here, but it's done to showcase their differences and flesh them out as individuals. Sometimes the best way to explore a character is through another character, it doesn't automatically have to be a bad thing.
We're still learning about them, we're still getting to know them as individuals, their history, thoughts, what makes them tick, I don't see what could possibly be gained by focusing on each of them separately when their stories - the same stories we'd be getting either way - can be told much more effectively this way, and with much more emotional impact too.
Why discard such a powerful storytelling device for, what, exactly? Some misguided sense of fairness? Of impartiality? I'm really not sure what the end goal here is even supposed to be.

And this is still another Junko x Ai episode. Characteristically, they appear everywhere together so often that the authors were even forced to prove in interviews that they did not conceive of them as a ship, lol. The fact that you have to say a lot of big words instead of essentially answering only confirms my thesis, sorry.

I think that when characters are constantly positioned as a duet everywhere and any of their development or problems constantly intersect in one way or another, this reduces their originality as separate characters.

In which case i've already explained why i don't agree with that conclusion, but considering we've just been going around in circles, i suppose we'll have to agree to disagree. oh well, it be like that sometimes

Ai will definitely refuse to join Iron Frill.

That instrumental they were doing with random stuff sounded really cool and unique I hope they include it in their performance.

You can't tell Koutaro is actually 27 or 28 XD

Junko's acoustic solo at the roof was beautiful. Also they had to keep that comical thing going on in the background when they were having such a serious conversation XD

I'm still waiting for the time they finally reveal legendary Tae's past...

I enjoyed this episode, but is it just me, or is the animation a bit sloppy a times? Maybe it's a just a blip?

The band relies to much on AI hence her solo jobs and junko shows her insecurities and the Become even worse after the iron frill member asking AI to join.

But come on they should know she won’t do it lol considering she’s a zombie

Also the zombie gag with Sakura was pretty funny near the end

Junko's song there was beautiful. Seeing how overreliant the group is and how they are going to perform with Iron Frill, I guess it was a wise decision to leave Ai out and do some solo stuff.

Melodic acoustic is quite nice.. Junko's voice there is very pleasant..
Junko is worrying about Ai the most.. They are closest to each other in this series.. Call it ship or closest friendship, or however else..

The fact their fandom is basically just those two guys, now one member is getting the solo activities, the pressure to being without the ace of the group and a new rivalry, this episode had almost everything in the idol life, including the reporter supposedly doing an investigation that is clearly going nowhere.

I like that Tae is doing more stuff now, the growth.

Credit where credit is due: Zombieland Saga is not afraid to get serious and dramatic when the story requires it.

An upcoming concert with Ai's old group forces Ai to stay absent to avoid recognition, which forcing Junko to step up as the group's resident idol expert. I liked how Junko reflects upon the differences between being a solo artist and a member of a group. She feels a lot of pressure because she doesn't want to fail her friends and you grow to care about her and feel for her and the situation she's been placed into.

Meanwhile, Ai faces her own problems when a member of her old group offers her a place in that same group. Talk about irony. Considering how annoyed she is getting at Koutarou for rejecting offers that could enhance Franchochou's popularity, it's not hard to imagine she would do anything that would help her stand out but is she willing to abandon the group she worked so hard to build? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

This was a fine episode and I can't wait to see what happens next.

I hope that Junko's strengths in being a solo idol end up being that she can bring out the best in each member individually, since she had to do that herself. Then Ai's is to make them a team and work together as a group.
Currently, Ai can only do so much with a group with only 2 experienced members.

look... yet another great episode and first half of a small arc with a great build up. Surprising. Yeah.

Shiori may have the same voice of Nico Yazawa but is totally unrecognizable, even if there is something in common (ego issues, even if Nico ones at least are played for comedy and well made too)

wasn't as entertained by usual bonkers Kotaro introduction of the day, but once again i noticed Yugiri is the only non-bullied one. Junko trying and failing to use a computer was amusing, and the same applies to Sakura's beheaded body returning on the roof on its own in a supposed serious moment.

Finally, it was also entertaining to watch the rehearsal for Franchouchou's... uhm... tribal new hit song? Actually pretty funny even if impossible to pull off and a sure career killer if it actually happens, it reminds me once again of (Love Live spoilers)
