Hey, interaction between Ootori and Mari is pretty amusing to watch.
Pretty sure Mari is actually very strong too. Murder? Oh god, it must be a misunderstanding!
Ootori's character is definitely different than her in the 2 previous episodes. We see lots of her new side in this episode. Character development?

Anyway, I enjoyed watching this episode more than I thought. Mari is a pretty nice addition to the cast. Really hope she stays..

The pace felt off this episode. That tournament was over pretty fast. I'm liking Mari so far, and the fanservice was just fine. Still a very enjoyable episode though.

Mari best girl! That said, I also couldn't stomach the bitch fest between her and Ouka. Takeru is... an alright MC, but I wish he'd try to stop them a bit more.

Now a question for all those complaining about a rushed tournament:
That Kyouya guy said he'd be waiting for our guys on the SECOND round. Does anyone really care about a battle against some nameless 1st-round scrubs? Was it ever mentioned that this tournament had ANY relevance to anything other than the fight with Kyouya's team? I don't see why rushing through the first round fight was a bad thing to be honest.

Funny that some people (who actually wants to drop this) labeled this show as shit because of its adaptation without barely any knowledge of its original source and whenever LN readers tried to convince them otherwise, they'd still argue back by saying it's still shit and again without factual evidence from the LN to back their disapproval of the show.

If harem-haters (fanservice haters too I guess) really despise these type of shows that much, then they would've not probably watch this in the first place. I personally dislike harem or excessive fanservice moments myself but that will not stop me from enjoying the shows when I can see it has potential to be a good one. Asterisk, Rakudai and Taimadou are all great in their own way. True they have their flaws but hey it's fine, as long as they have the potential and able to entertain the audience. In short, just grow up and deal with it. Dropping this show or any others this early and you might miss out some great stuff happening later. ;)

Rushed episode as usual. They missed a pretty important part from last volume as well.....which should have been pretty important. Let's hope the action next episode isn't as bad as episode 2.

The only thing worth watching for now are the Witch Hunter Forms, everything else...........sigh.

Have to agree, Mari best girl so far. What I don't get is why almost everyone makes fun of Takeru and his sword, have they never seen him go into bad ass mode? Oh well, if he would just use his relic I bet he beats them all :c.

It's a team battle and before ohtori and mari arrived, they only had 3 members fighting (1 is non combatant too) so they easily get beaten.

Good episode. Shame that the platoon's first round in the tournament was rushed though. Despite that, it was still enjoyable.

Mari is really likeable. I was expecting her to lash out at Takeru after seeing after naked, but she went in 100% Dere mode and was embarrassed. Only after she and Ohtori crashed on top of Takeru, the double slap hit him, even though be stated the bleeding obvious that it wasn't his fault. Poor guy. =P

So now Ohtori knows about Mari's backstory and what she's accused of. I wonder how she'll react around her for the next episode without mentioning the subject at all.

The shows' visuals are still good, but not the best of this season. Anyone saying that it looks awful should compare this show to the likes of Lance 'n' Masques and re-evaluate their opinion straight away. =/

Sougetsu Ootori (white haired guy) somewhat reminds me of Lord Death form Soul Eater,
mainly because he has this really nice and outgoing character but can be very dark and serious at times.
Welcome to the witch babysitting academy, where a witch that is possibly responsible for a lot of deaths has her memories ereased just to join a platoon in a academy designated to teach people how to KILL WITCHES. Also follow her glorious adeventures with her new comrades, one of which whishes to kill ALL witches because one killed her family.
Sounds like a plan, doesn´t it?
But all that aside this episode was great. Mari is da real MVP and the catfight between her and Ouka was just hilarious.
The serious parts of the episode were done just right and you really start to hate that blond guy(who reminds me of Ryuunosuke from Fate/Zero and even has powers similar to Caster).
This was, if I remember correctly, the first time one of those walk-in-on-a-naked-girl-scenes did not end up in a Baka, pervert, idiot kind of thing, her reaction was rather like one of an actual human (even though she´s a witch), the double slap at the end, hoever destroyed this immediatly.
I really can´t wait for next week´s episode especially with that cliffhanger at the end!

I will say I have not read the light novels but from a just anime point of view I thought this was a good episode and the pace of everything was pretty good so far. This episode was pretty much an episode to introduce and have character interactions for Mari and so far I gotta admit she is my favorite girl :P Now I wonder and can't wait to see how the next episode will be now that Ouka thinks that Mari is a murderer.

Didn't like how they introduced her this episode though and explained what happened like half way through the episode and not just do it in the beginning. It was unnecessary the way they did it.

Episode not very exciting, the story made the right steps, but I did not notice the pathos that created strong expectations, it was not boring viewing. The protagonists still not stand out as charisma, a little anonymous as characters. Drawings of good quality, animations too, but not so much beautiful scenery, shame.

I really love how Mari get along with the team. Somehow Mari vs Ohtori reminds me of Sena vs Yozora. They fight over the little things.

I wonder how next episode will go. Will Ohtori try to kill Mari? Damn cliffhanger... also this anime is so underrated with 7.18.

It surprisngly solid. The only things really cut are some exposition, bits of characterzation for Lapis (which aren't terribly important as she dosen't shine until much later) and some battle scenes have been shorten. Majority of the plot and development are intact otherwise and honestly not missing much. The first couple of AMA are decent and fun but nothing amazing. Vol 5 which is where the anime going to stop at is where things REALLY get good.

It's getting the Tokyo Raven, Campione and Madan treatment but worse and have a high possibility of becoming similar to FSN 2006. You may think the anime is doing okay but rushing through 2 volumes in 4 episode, cutting down characterization and exposition is never good. Add to that a few events that are actually important. Oh the fight in episode 2 is trash-tier compared to the LN.

It sad since the LN maybe ending soon (maybe volume 12 or 13) so there was no need to rush through this. The chance of a second season will be pretty low. All of the other LN adaptations this season have much slower pacing (Heavy Object is adapting 1 volume in 6-7 episodes).

Giving at least one more episode per volume and having someone competent on the action scenes (Rakudai's action scenes are pretty good) would have made this show much much better. It's a waste really........this could have been a great show.

And I tend to disagree - many LN adaptations think they need an excessive amount of exposition in their anime.

This is actually a problem. Exposition in a book is never wrong (unless you get to Mahouka level of exposition) as it helps your immersion, in a game (PC or table top or sth else) it is often the same.

In a film or anime exposition is only needed to get the viewers to understand the gist of the world - any exposition beyond that can (it doesn't have to) lead to sinking enjoyment of the viewer.

In a film viewers don't want the characters to discuss and explain what and why they do it - they want them to do it and if necessary explain it with their actions.

Pls do not misunderstand - character development is obviously important and if you need exposition to do that then you should do so, but many LNs tend to throw an excessive amount of specific terms at the reader, many of which the normal anime viewer just doesn't need...

As for the certain scene you said they left away from the last volume, I guess it is about the talk with the chairman.
Honestly that talk would be nonsense in the anime - yeah you raise the stakes by that, but it doesn't become relevant until the halfway point of the series (Vol. 5 and 6)

So why adding it? Yeah you would raise the stakes and maybe get the viewers to be more involved in the story, but said involvement quickly gets replaced by annoyance if the stakes are more or less forgotten in the course of the anime.

In the end you wanted a perfect, near 1-to-1 adaptation from the novel to the anime.
That just does not work as book and TV are 2 completely different media and by adding
"unneeded" information at a point you can easily annoy the anime-only viewers (and those tend to be the majority ;-))

I do not disagree that 1 more episode per novel would have been better as the pace could come down a bit but if I'm honest the result could have been far worse than it currently is and as long as the anime-only viewers are entertained I as novel reader have no problem with the anime ^^

As for the fight in EP 2: yeah it could have been more spectacular but it once more could have been far worse.

Just read the novel...

Shortens fight scenes, some character designs in the battles are off and detail is just not there.

The art is also very silly compared to the LN art (which is godly).

I really wanted to believe in Silver Link, but even they can't pull of two adaptions in the same season.

If they put half the amount of budget they did for the Rakudai Kishi no Eiyuutan adaption, this would be looking so much better.

I mean who knows, maybe they will upping the animation and such once we get to the later arcs/volumes (when it matters the most really) but so far, I see no hope.

It also depends on how you define viewers........some love exposition while some love mindless action. It's not easy to please everyone but for shows that depends on characterization and exposition more than pointless action, it does matter. Cut out small parts and they will come back to haunt the show later and also ups the possibility of so-called "Plotholes" that was never in the source material.

The Ouka-hate is still going strong but showing her backstory properly could have helped to characterize her properly. Not to mention explaining Takeru's abilities, style and showing those certain scenes were important for his characterization (both talk with the chairman for showing his character and also the one at the end). How many people even understood why Ouka didn't use Vlad before and why it suddenly disappeared......not that it matters. Some of the scenes that could have added the dark vibe to this show are cut out.

Well rushed adaptations can still be enjoyed. The only problem is once you read the source you will realize just how bad the adaptation was and how much potential was wasted. I would rather have a proper or good adaptation (no need to 1:1) or should i say advertisement than a utterly rushed or simply bad one. Even Tokyo Ravens started out properly, cut some side stories and fun events in the middle and still turned out to be quite good despite doing 9 volumes. But AMA just started out by rushing instead to taking some time. Not even 1 but half and episode for each volume with a little exposition would have been quite helpful.

The only saving grace of this adaptation could have been the action but the one in episode 2 was utter garbage. It's not even the cg or the helmet, it was simply bad and looked like 2 kids exchanging blows rather than any proper fight. If the fight in next episode is anything like that instead of a proper sword fight then i don't have anything to look forward to from this show other than the Armor designs (sadly no illustrations in the LN for them).

Nice catch. Kusanagi probably let it go unless the hit to the head made him forget. One of those unimportant aspects of the story. I doubt the LN even touched the topic. Also, it's not like she did anything to make Kusanagi remember her besides being "the one who got away." The the enemies probably kept him preoccupied and it's not like he'd remember their faces either. If he caught her voice as well, then he might have noticed. Seeing her jump out a building again would also jog his memory.

Mari will probably try to clear her name of murder the moment she regains her memory. No doubt, she'll remain in the harem. Valhalla pretty much betrayed her expectations. I know pretty much everyone thinks she's best girl, but have any of the other girls had their fair share of screen time? Obviously, not with this pacing but they may get some later in the story. Then you can decided whether she's best girl, even though it probably won't change your mind. I don't think they could top Ouka and Mari's backstory and personality imo.

All of that save for Takeru's limitations in using Somatou has been shown or implied in anime. There nothing hard to understand about Takeru, he's been presented in the anime just as he's been in the LN. A rash, but fairly mellow and free thinking leader. Ouka's stuff has also either been shown or implied. Even in the manga and LN people still disliked her at first because it didn't change the fact she was blaming Mari out of prejudice at what happened to her family rather than logic. She doesn't stop toning that down until much later, but it is gradual process as you can see at the end of this episode.

What potential? Vol1-4 are are decent at best and ultimately mediocre in general and they don't do anything that hasn't been done before. Vol 5 is where the plot kicks into gear and Antimagic potential shows rather than merely hints of "maybe this might be really good". An adaptation being super faithful doesn't mean it is a good a show, especially if the source is average. Even if SL decided to only do 3 vols and give every vol 4 episode treated most people just calling this LN slow trash just like Asterisk and nobody would really care for a 2nd season. This pacing is the real reasonable way adapted all 5 vols and end the show on memorable note and bring interest towards the better books of 7-11. If SL manages to accomplish that than adaptation is success regardless of you personal feeling. As you said you yourself, an adaptation does not need to be 1:1 to be good, it should empathizes the best aspects of story and that is what SL is doing. If you don't like it there still the LN. Continuing to bellyache about the anime not being word for word won't make many read the LNs either much less like them anymore then they do now. It needs to stand own feet.

That said, don't get me wrong, the earlier volumes are fun enough, but end their mainly character driven affairs and that is what the anime has been focusing on.

So you think character-focused volumes are mediocre even when they have quite characterization, decent buildup and hints that this could be quite good. Sorry i disagree, they were not mediocre neither unimportant to the story.

But hey who cares about that let's make a typical "Boy meets girl, shit happens, boy says some cool lines without trying to make the meaning clear followed by some cheap light shows that can barely be called proper fights and girl falls for the boy" show and make a shitty advertisement. That's how AMA fanfi..............err adaptation looks to me. Why did Ouka make a complete 180 in the anime again?

An adaptation being super faithful doesn't mean it is a good a show, especially if the source is average. Even if SL decided to only do 3 vols and give every vol 4 episode treated most people just calling this LN slow trash just like Asterisk and nobody would really care for a 2nd season.

They don't need to be word per word but that doesn't make it bad either. Not everyone is an action junkie as people like slow-paced adaptations like Log Horizon as well. And it's funny how you are calling out on Asterisk since Heavy Object, Asterisk and Rakudai have been pretty good adaptations and well received unless you count the typical "LN-hater bandwagon", "Why no Index S3" or "Rakudai is better than Asterisk" groupies. Even with a few changes and re-ordering of events, the main points were still intact and the actions were pretty good. While not being perfect, the are pretty good adaptations unlike AMA. Well i should be happy that i at least got to see 3 good adaptations out of the 4 i was excited about.

A slow paced so-called boring adaptation is much better and much more preferable to me than some high-paced shitty adaptation that are plaguing the anime world. I am seriously tired of telling people that anime today still has potential when my own faith is wavering little by little.

If you don't like it or there still the LN.

Adapting 5 volumes in 12 episode and having a good pace is quite impossible but if they are cutting the fights short and making them look like trash similar to episode 2 for good pacing reasons then that's great. Btw this isn't just my personal feelings and i don't see many people saying this is a good adaption. Looks like some ln readers already gave up on the show and more will follow if the next episode shows the same level of SUPERB(?) fighting.

It isn't emphasizing the best aspects of the story either other than some comedy or fanservice aspects and the action was messed up. Feel free to think that it's good, that's your right. It can also be enjoyed when you know the blanks from reading the LN. But it isn't doing the source any justice......

I will just repeat myself.......as the LN is near it's end they could have took it slow and made a good adaptation for all 12-13 volumes with 2-3 seasons. But since they are going to make a mediocre (and possibly) butchered adaption of volume 1-9........the chance of another season is non-existent.
