Typical baka gaijins.

ye lol.Does not make sense to me.Its like i come beat you up kidnap you and then tell you would you be so kind when you get back home to tell your family to help me with some of my problems? ok sure lol.

@yAleksandr17 : ''I'm surprised. Japan got attacked before by people from the other side, and now there is not a single person that lost a family member trying to kill these girls (that have nothing to do with that event) but we all know how irrational people become when they lose a family member, and more when it wasn't necessary. In fact, these girls from another world have more fans than the AKB48''

Yes weird to me too, they were welcomed like they were heroes, and there is no hate/dislike some protest against them. But i guess way things are going there is noone in Japan that would take advantage of the other world and that everybody in japan loves them...

Other than the above it was good that they finally back to their world.Wonder how the empire gonna react? They lost alot of people in the war too.Unless they are like the Japanese all forgiving people they might not want peace.Wonder if there is some race in their world that can counter modern weapons or sth.For example are there more people like Rory or something along these lines.Curious on what going to happen.

Rory slaughtering the agent dudes was cool and loled at the dude's dying lines. Also the elf chick gone completely insane or?

Curious how it gonna go on,hope the action will stay in the other world.

Someone else mentioned it was based on old fortresses but the reason why it's based on older fortresses is because when a force attacks one wall, there is a complementing wall that can defend against every wall next to it. However the weakness to this is attacking the star point, where it's farthest and where the least amount of ppl can have cover.

Personally I'd go for more Vietname-era type of defenses since the main problem is getting surrounded and overwhelmed by superior numbers, centering around the defense of the gate as well as any helipads/landing strips. Meaning with modern weapons, having a star walls would cause friendly fire issues as well as preventing the use of artillery and aircraft-based weapons easily. Pretty much think, world war I/II with barbed wire to get horses/ppl stuck and no man's land with mgs with overlapping fields of fire with artillery already zeroed in on positions. Think vietname in the sense of having fall back and secondary positions as well as a final protective defense lines where mg's go cyclic and it's last man standing.

Yeah I kind of questioned that as well but there's been so many discrepancies with the military side of things might as well just toss it all up to literary license. Wished the author either did more research or at least tried to make it more realistic, considering it centers around the SDF.

In general it always seems like anime always depicts foreign military as mentally unstable. I think the the special forces of all the country would've reacted differently as they would've all expected another country to try to take them. Plus, even though facing overwhelming and unfathomable power and speed of Rory, they would've done their best and acted fluidly and cooly to a rapidly detoriating situation. I would still expect them to lose but not by firing excess bullets till the gun is empty without reloading one handed and not being in shock. But whatever.

I really enjoyed this episode regardless. Rory's such a great tease. I was really confused when Pinya was looking for her dad.....isn't her dad dead? From the dragon?

The concrete star fort does make sense when you consider the enemy they are facing. Such fortifications are useless against modern weapons, but very effective against what the Empire has shown that it has. Besides, the JSDF cannot fall back from Alnus: they have to hold that position to keep that end of the Gate from being entered by the enemy. So they might as well dig in hard. And personally, I think that a fortress like that is something the Imperials can better comprehend to be a formidable obstacle and think twice about attacking. After all they did twice attack the more modern defenses in place earlier (barbed wire entanglements, pre-plotted artillery, etc) so a big, imposing fortress might help prevent another slaughter.

It's classic shape of the 18-19th century fortress.

For example Fort Wood(used as a pedestal for cheap statuette):

he foundation of Bartholdi's statue was to be laid inside Fort Wood, a disused army base on Bedloe's Island constructed between 1807 and 1811. Since 1823, it had rarely been used, though during the Civil War, it had served as a recruiting station. The fortifications of the structure were in the shape of an eleven-point star.

If i remember the design was made to eliminate blind spots on the walls of the fortification and allow more than one angle to repel attacks.

If the enemy attacks one wall, the defenders can shoot at them various positions from the adjoining wall.

I liked this episode quite a lot when I thought the last episode was the weakest of the series. Had a lot of Rory being awesome, Kuribayashi got plenty of screentime and was a lot of fun, her sister was great.

Was a good episode, looking forwards to more now.

It was chiefly because the three girls people knew of were innocent refugees, who had noting to do with the war; also, Rory said clearly the Diet must understand and praise the fact that the SDF saved many villagers from the dragon.

Great episode.

If Rory keeps this up, then I have a spot in my favs reserved for her.

I found it absolutely hilarious how all these foreign agents are just running around doing whatever the hell they wanted, mostly unregulated, and getting arrested is how they are ultimately put in their place, lol. Well played officer whatever his name was.

This is very easily turning out to be my favorite series this season. Looking forward to the next episode, though I'm starting to wish I had picked this up after it had already finished airing.

What you say sounds logical until we realize they were fighting an enemy immune to bullets, at that point it does make sense they go in shock because they know they are dead man already. If they had air support they might call the place to be leveled with bombs in the hope that it would blast the "kimono girl" to dust (but maybe she would regenerate like perfect cell), but they didn't had that option. Eory wasn't even fazed by bullets, she was more like the juggernaut than the wolverine.

Honestly, I'm kind of a mixed bag with this episode. Got so excited for the action scenes, because we haven't had those for awhile. But then the rest was just filled with:

"We have to play these scenes to move the story along so just hold out for a bit longer before we return to the more interesting world that is the Special Region. That isn't being hammered by annoying politics."

Or they could be trying to get their hands on either of two immortals, an actual magic user, or an actual non-human so they can figure out how they tick and use it for their own ends. It fits with the "every country except Japan is evil" vibe this episode gave off.

That's a Vauban fort design. (See Wikipedia). It dates from when firearms got good enough to be useful. Every external wall can easily be fired upon from another wall. There are no dead spots where an attacker can hide, or you have to try to fire straight down. It's exactly what you want if you're going to be attacked by a much larger army that doesn't have artillery. Especially when you have machine guns.

Building a big, formidable fortress for intimidation makes a lot of sense. Sure, the JSDF could dig in and camouflage machine gun and artillery bunkers, put out sensors, string barbed wire, and emplace minefields. That's what you do against a modern army, and it would work fine against the Empire. But it's barely visible. The JSDF put up big solid intimidating walls, which, since they have heavy earthmoving equipment and a direct supply line to Tokyo, they can do easily. Pina says "Is this their fortress?" when she first sees the place, with its high walls, heavy gates, and zigzag anti-terrorism (also anti-calvary-charge) barriers.
