As soon as Guts left, Griffith continues to run out of luck.
Griffith was like abandoned by a lover.

Slower paced episode than the last several, but it was a nice setup for the final act.

So, the facade kept by Griffith (or did he really persuade himself not to have any consideration for any people?) finally crumbles and he throws away everything he had built in a single illogical move.
I must say that I am very disappointed about this last part despite liking the fact the series shows us a bit of the "real person" behind Griffith plans/foretold actions and everything. I have some trouble to understand how broken he must be to go there. Yes, it might be a way to reaffirm his ability to use people anyway he wants and a princess is certainly the best for a big ego boost but it is also the best possible way to kill his life's ambition (when 99% was going according to his visions).

3.5/5

Yeah, Griffith is no match for Guts's mountain muscle + huge sword. Why is he even thinking of blocking him with his pathetic European sword.

Too bad they didn't animate the sex scene :-(

If you want to watch animated rape there is plenty of hentai for that.

Or there is the second movie.

English dialogue significantly better than sub sometimes.
Guts "I'd rather fight for my life than live it."
Corkus made a beautiful transition from waitress flirting to questioning Guts' ideal. Corkus says the smartest things since... forever.
Love quad unwinding itself. Casca's change, Gut's reservation, Griffith's obsession of possession, and princess' difficult feelings.
The fall of Griffith gets real.

Amazing episode which remembers me a lot on Gungrave. Now the question is what will happen to Guts as you can see how much hate he feels for Griffith in the first episode.

Wow,this was a great episode, first half was calm and really emotional then it got so intense.

Griffith is getting worse and worse. He was getting so close to achieving his dream and he fucked up everything.

Btw,the comments here are killing me lmao:

"Did you make love to the Princess while imagining she was Guts?"

"The princess is gonna be 16 and pregnant"

"So Gutts symbolizes Griffith's sword, and since Gutts left Griffith has no sword."

I'm dead.

Quite the terrible day for Griffith. Surprised it all came down to this.
He lost to Guts and then gave up his dream so easily.

It seems like they'll fight again some day over the same thing.

The duel in this episode changed everything. Thus, our tearful and fearful hope rises that what episode 1 told us would happen was just a ruse, that it was just Guts leaving and going on his own path, but after the end of the episode, now the audience is not so sure...

This episode escalated.
Griffith lost the battle because he lost his cool.
It surprised me that Griffith decided to fight Guts and not even ask a thing. Griffith said he doesnt care if he kills Guts if he cant be his?? He is really losing it.
Griffith started looking at Guts as he does at his enemies so fast..

Griffith appearing outside of the girl's chamber at night, in the goddamn rain to then force himself onto her.. whoa.. What a great strategy. Almost as great as deciding to send Guts to do an assasination mission XD
Griffith is the last man to lose his cool eh Guts? I guess not when youre gone xd

I guess the loss was a bit more than tripping over a pebble on the road for Griffith. Maybe Guts had too much faith in his friend.
Is Griffith missing his friend or his possesion? Maybe he just hates to be defeated by someone he considers inferior?
He's becoming impulsive and unstable. Forgot his sword broke really? Thats for the better honestly. Hed just get himself killed if he tried to war with these guards alone. Theres no guts to kill people for you anymore :p
Its odd how theyre becoming more like each other. This wont go well.

Oh Casca hugging the broken sword Guts left.. It seems like she left Griffith for Guts as well.
Poor Griffith really. He got everything done on his way for the dream but his 'friends' are leaving.
Casca really should tell Griffith why Guts left before it's too late.

The best episode up until now

Now Griffith has become a broken man, yet he is still a calm man even under his hardships.

Cannot wait for Griffith to blame all of this shit on Guts.

We all know who Griffith really wanted to fuck. The princess was the most convenient and most willing candidate at the time but he was imaging his beautiful Guts spread eagle on that bed.

I honestly feel bad for Griffith, Guts was everything to him. Just like Casca said, Griffith has shown such kind words only to Guts, because he was precious to him. And now, Griffith is in quite the pinch...

this episode was very emotional for me.. somewhere, it feels like it's answering some of the things I am bothered about.

Guts' feelings, the more he reveals them, the more I love him.. when he says "I'm just a stone on your path" and walks off with blessings for them... what can I say..

I'm loving the way we continue to see inner journey of Guts and some other characters..

I wish they could've hugged it out and said goodbye.. it's understandable why Griffis seems shattered or in disbelief or whatever his eyes said!.. Maybe it's not really about his ambition that may be weakened without Guts by his side, and that he really loved Guts.. Poor Griffis..

I also absolutely loved how Judeau is receptive of Guts' decision, he wants to know why but is understanding of Guts.. and Corkus' perspective too.. makes us think and also acknowledge one of the realities where people are forced to give up on their own dreams.. really, what is it to dream? we got to know the various mindsets of some supporting characters.

Damn guts strategy really worked against Griffith and that looked so damn easy

Its sad that out of desperation Griffith chose to visit the princess and was thinking about guts during the whole thing in bed

Also griffith getting caught shows why you should always leave the visiting place before sunrise

But really great episode overall

Griffith shouldn't have been so sure in himself and his dream. while he was tangled in all the 'noble' affairs, Guts washed all his dirty laundry. I'm glad that guts found the courage and confidence to leave and finally become someone, become his own person instead of a simple killing machine, the brawl behind the brains, the shadow of Griffith. Finished this episode at almost 1 AM so my brain is foggy, but I really liked this episode and I love the way the show is going. You should really try and find yourself and your path in life, instead of accepting the 'faith' someone else is offering to you (I'm not saying that being a loner is the best and I really hope Guts finds the... guts haha to open up and accept the help of others)

Holy shit, what an episode. Guts was absolutely resolute and his single strike against Griffith showed the staggering difference between how the two view each other. Griffith's possessiveness is the total antithesis of Guts's indomitable spirit.

What made the scene with Charlotte so eerie was how Griffith wasn't even looking at her. It was as if he was still gazing far off to the horizon that Guts vanished over, desperately rushing towards his aspirations so he can catch up.

Well, talk about bad timing to let out your sexual frustration. Griffith slipped up big time this time. I knew he would duel Guts, because of "the deal". I didn't expect it to be over that quickly though. An anti-climactic battle, to say the least.

That Corkus is still such a asshat. You would expect Guts to snap at some point, being called a coward while he literally pulled the whole band to victory. He killed hundreds of men and even battled a near-invincible demon. But no, Guts just lets him talk.

Griffith really looked defeated after losing to Guts. Even when having snu-snu with the princess. It reminds me of the words that Zod said: "Should this man's conviction failter, you will surely die..." Something along those lines. I wonder how Griffith will get out of this mess. I've got a feeling that something big is going to happen. I don't know what, but it'll probably involve the Behelit. It's time that we get some insight into its powers.

5/5. What a fantastic episode. That whole snow/rain setting and atmosphere this episode fit perfectly with the content and seeing Guts and Griffith have a mini rematch was super hype. The guts theme insert was PERFECT and it was cool seeing casca's growth as well.

That princess scene was something else though lol but man.. griffith is in a super tough spot.

bro, the fact that he was strong enough to break his sword, and stop it in time before it hit Griffith, just shows how much stronger Guts has gotten ever since he joined the group. and even with the planning Griffith made before the match, he was still no match for Guts. Just seeing the devastation in Griffiths face when he lost sent shivers down my spine. And now that Griffith has been captured, he is in the worst spot we have ever seen. I wonder if what Zodd the Immortal said to Guts is about to come to fruition soon?
