I hope a raw ripper snags it so we're not left in the dark. @Kijdenvoot "OVA & ONA will be set to finished after 18 months of inactivity (i.e.: no new information or releases)." Hentai OVAs are notorious for long stretches between eps. Of course any indication from the creator's site that a project will stop can help close the entry early! AniDB has no such requirement for their database so they do whatever over there. Anyway, Elf no Mori e for example, is a part of the Bunny Walker brand http://www.lune-soft.jp/ova/brand_ova/bunnywalker which for its entire career, has made hentai OVAs with only 2 eps. That's a solid rap sheet and completely reasonable to have that entry closed early on MAL. Implicity hasn't has a new ep in over 18 months so it can close normally. Tiny Evil and Dokidoki had a new eps recently and I don't see anything that could let it close early. |

(Who names these things?) So it can be deleted. Sorry about that... Not sure how anyone was supposed to find this entry with neither of the directors in the database (submitting them now) and no useful alternate titles. Searching for 'Buildings' in the 'relation' section brought up zero results, and I know other people who couldn't find these here. Honestly though, is there a reason why these are all combined into one entry? This just looks like a conglomeration of a bunch of individually released short films. It's not uncommon for a director's works to be compiled on disc, but I never see them in the database; the works are separate entries because of their original releases. I have reason to believe this is just a compilation of their works released at an exhibition, which makes even less sense for them to be together. Seriously consider splitting this up, unless there is a database standard I am not aware of. At the very least, add the alternate titles so people can actually find this. /end rant |

| @Kwanthemaster IIRC someone asked (around when the Ghibli Shorts DVD merged entries) and this DVD release was what made the two creators professionals [which I can't find much info of but I think it might have been produced by the Yokohama Museum of Art. Hell if you reverse image search the main pic, no results come back older than MAL. Obviously MAL got it from somewhere...which is probably some now defunct museum site]. As prior they were indie artists with no major awards from major festivals nor professional work history (or well, none that MAL could find at the time a decade ago, IDK it was before I joined the site). And AniDB doesn't need to ban Indonesian anime because MAL does. AniDB's listings of fansubbers is what makes it valuable enough to be linked on MAL. Likewise ANN's listings of staff is what makes it valuable. While sites like Anime-Planet, Anilist, Kitsu.io, and AnimeNfo (this last one used to be linked) are not valued and not listed. >Anyone who has watched this series would probably categorize this as seinen. Tasogare Otome x Amnesia is an example of such a situation. It is adapting a manga. AniDB gave it a shounen and seinen tag. While on MAL it can't have both, it can only have 1 of them so MAL choose the a shounen tag based on the publisher. There are also some anime films which are advertised in official trailers something along the lines of a 'romance for men and women' which would mean the film targets seinen and josei. MAL cannot have both labels present so they choose to put neither. Putting no target demographics is also the default MAL cannot find a factual source of what manga/publisher an anime is adapting. Sometimes this happens to really old anime adapting even older manga series. When MAL first started as a site they copied AniDB's database, then later changed to the fact-based system for target demographics (MAL's perseverance to avoid objectiveness whenever possible), so entries have been getting fixed up for years as well as new incoming anime getting immediately standardized to the fact-based system. |

If the manga is seinen - and has similar plot/setting (because it adapts the same novel) it is likely that the anime is targeted at the same demographics. Even if it is not adapting the manga but the novel. (Yes I know there are other cases where a novel got a manga adaption and later the manga got adapted into an anime.) If we look at the "official" genre definitions of MAL: https://myanimelist.net/info.php?go=genre For seinen there is no description. But for other similar (demographics) there are descriptions. They don't state that the source has to shounen, shoujo or whatever. They give examples for the content and tell at which audience it is targeted. (But not "the source material has been labeled 'shoujo' by the publisher".) So I wouldn't be against using seinen for Kaze ga - the anime. It makes sense. There is no fixed rule that forbids it. And otherwise those demographics tags would even be more uselass than they already are. Then again: Who cares? Totally useless ... or a bit less useless? It doesn't matter. It is an old system and as long as they aren't changing the setup of the genre system the amount of people who care probably is low compared to the total amout of people using MAL. (And changes aren't going to happen since MAL only got bugfixes every now and then but no work on new features - besides "Manga Store" or other stuff to make money.) |
