After rewinding the episode at certain points to clarify some things: I got a better understanding of a scene that confused me.
- when Lily was locked in the room she said to her dad "I don't want to look like you..." she was reallly saying that she'll literally lose her loli charm and become a hulking muscular beast like her dad. Seeing facial hair beginning, just confirmed her fear.

I felt sad about what happened to Lily's dad. You lose your wife and then your child as you neglected some things they wanted to do and realized your mistake to late. I'm glad Lily was able to reach out to her father in the end but I would have liked it if there was some way for her to say that it really is her and not have her father freak out or at least be able to still spend time with her. This was a good episode.

I cracked up on the death, but the part where Papi was grieving and broke the TV was so sad :( it's a good thing he didn't kill himself to be with his wife and daughter. Sweet big guy <3 Episode ended real nice TTuTT

Lily needs to work on her beginning lyrics tho fr LMAO

Okay... Can we all stop for a while and appreciate the fact we are slowly getting to know more stuff about all members, how they died and what kind of life they lived before?

Also, this episode was really sad and emotional; I really didn't expect something deep from this anime so I'm surprised - in a good way of course.

And...

Can we all give a supportive hug to this sweetie? She really deserves it!

Lily is not a Trap. If Lily a boy still identifies as a boy but likes to dress as girls it would be a crossdresser/trap. But Lily literally dies on seeing facial hair, which shows how against she is in having a a male body. She seemed happy to have died before her body changes. She is more like a Trans i think, though I can't speak for trans people but calling her trap feels wrong.

Lol @ everyone getting triggered by a fictional character.

Lily being a boy is weird for me because of that damn voice. Twelve-year-old boys just don't sound like that. Three years old, sure but not twelve. If the seiyuu was tomboyish, like Romi Paku, it'd be less weird.

Poor dad. :( living all by himself. It's sad how nobody will let their kids near him because he "looks scary." xD

This episode really came unexpected!
I expected everything except of a semi serious episode about lily being trans!
And I’m still concerned how so many people call her a trap when it’s obviously that she’s a trans girl! But what actually was a little bit of a shock was how she died. All the other deaths besides the electrocute one
We’re kinda made hilarious
But to die because of a psychic shock is a bit heavy.
I’m honest to you all
I cried at the end
This anime is one of the few that actually got me like that
10/10 will watch again

I'm of the belief Hoshikawa Lily is not a trans. She has always been a girl i.e. was born a girl.
Can anyone provide proof to me that Lily is not a biological girl? I'm probably just bad at looking, but all I see is conjecture, not ultimate proof that denies her being born a girl.

It was such a sweet episode ! Until then, I wasn't fond of the drama aspect of the show (I must admit I didn't really come for that), but here it was very well done.
The story really touched me, father/child relationships always make me emotional for some reason.
However, I am a bit confused regarding Lily. Don't get me wrong, I perfectly understand that she's trans (and congratulations to my language's sub for giving her male pronouns since the reveal even when the show doesn't), but I wonder if she is trans because she truly deep within sees herself as a girl or because her father turning her into an idol made her get used of that. The fact that she was dressed as a girl even before becoming an idol seems to imply that she always saw herself as a girl, but at the same time, the parallel between her being trans and her being an idol seems to imply the opposite.
But well, not that it really matters, at the end she sees herself as a girl, as Lily, and that's who she is.
Saki's reaction to it was so sweet. At first she obviously was mocking because that's Saki for you, but afterwards she's the most understanding. (Not that it surprises me, she's very compassionate despite her rude exterior.) Kotaro, too, even if it's very humorous, it's still nice to see that he doesn't at all care about who Lily used to be.
I'd say there's one thing I didn't like in this ep : the song. It was sweet, like the rest, but there were way too many syllables, it consequently sounded very weird.

Do girls usually start to grow facial hair as they're entering puberty? The shock of her fiding a strand of facial hair was what finally triggered the break and her subsequent heart attack and death.

Yes, they do grow facial hair. Not as much as men obviously, but the answer is yes. We don't know if they also do in that anime, but they do in real life at least.

Even IF they didn't usually do so, there is a possibility Lily has some sort of disease or genetic "disorder" (doesn't need to be literally harmful, just make her grow facial hair directly or indirectly) that makes her grow facial hair.

So lily is a trap. That doesn't bother me that much since it IS an anime troupe, so eh.
The reason of her death was also kind of ridiculous but then again we also have lightening kun do its job so also eh.
But what made the episode really great was the interaction between the two of them, lily and takeo gõ. Such a heartwarming moment, with a tinge of bittersweetness.
Also the song was pretty okay.

Okay, I know this was lowkey a parody on account of how Lily died (and having a dick, and all this other shit), but, like, this was actually sad as fuck. Lily is dead, but what the fuck does it mean to be dead? For all intents and purposes and every practical measure, she's alive, which means that, despite her death, she could reunite with her dad, but because she's actually an undead she can't...??

????????

That's fucking sad, fam. It's sad for her and sad for her dad. That shit ain't fair. Her dad has the opportunity to reunite with his daughter (son? idk) and the most they can do is perform some cheesy song in ode to their relationship which, in fact, makes it even more tragic because it's essentially a commitment to the idea they'll never actually be reunited.

This whole scenario is just a big feels bad. What's the point of being brought back to life if you have to deny your loved ones? :(

YIKES at the transphobia in this thread.

Lily is a trans girl, get over it. The word "trap" has a lot of sexual connotations with it and if you bear in mind she's *12*, I should be going on a reporting spree on this thread.

probably my second time crying while watching anime, both times being from a family member dying

also find it weird the thing a lot people got out of this episode wasn’t the fact a father lost their child, but the fact Lily is transgender which isn’t a big deal so I don’t see the reasoning for getting worked up about it

That was a great episode!
Definitely lives up to its reputation of good trans representation.
If only people in real life were as quick to accept trans people as Franchouchou.

Her dad being an absolute mountain of a man is character design genius. The contrast between their appearances clearly defines the stakes of growing up and puts into perspective how much Lily fears it.

Lily dying of shock upon seeing one of the first signs of puberty is a great demonstration of the existential terror some young transfolk go through. Her death illustrates why trans visibility, parental support, and access to hormone blockers are crucial to saving the lives of trans kids. I guess it would have been more realistic if her death was a suicide or homicide, but I'm glad the production team chose to keep it relatively lighthearted while still retaining a trans-specific cause of death.
(I totally empathize with her dysphoria-induced death)

Okay I love how fast the girls were to accept Lily being trans. We do be loving supportive friends. Also like it's so cute how the rest of the girls have been kind of treating Lily as a lil sister or as like a younger kid (bc she is) but it makes it feel like they're kinda a family which is cute

Honestly Lily's story is really sad like having to hide being trans while being in the splot light and also having dysphoria from puberty setting in and also lowkey being neglected by her dad must have been really hard. At least she can be happy with her new friends/ family

I don’t think Lily is truly transgender as much as possibly being born with both parts. That’s why she had the male name of Masao but was so petite, she took more after her mom than her dad. Lily was just her stage name. Even before she became a child star, she dressed in girl clothes. Her voice is also very high pitched, even for a little boy. Right before her death, she’s talking to her dad about going to a theme park and she has serious dark circles under her eyes. I think her death was more from exhaustion but seeing the hair on her face, which girls do get btw, is the straw that broke her. Maybe she thought, the more male parts of her were also going to start coming through? I don’t care either way, Lily is Lily. Just my two cents.
I definitely cried at this episode. I wish she was able to keep in contact with him. 😭

Also, it’s weird that people are calling her a “trap”. She’s a kid! Anime or not, it’s creepy!

Seriously though, he is respectful towards Lily in the sense that given his size, he could have easily broken the door down, but he chose to politely but firmly knock on the door for her.

Did she just... died from shock from her... FACIAL HAIR?!?!?!?! HUH??!?!!? So... Lily is... transgender??!?!?!

The love that Lily's father had for her was quite heart-warming :"(

This episode made me ugly sob. Lily was only a kid when she died and I’m glad they explored the effects that could have had on her parent. Also a lot of people here are saying her death was really comical and while it was definitely played up, I do think there is a layer of sadness to it too. She died because of the mental shock of realizing she was going into male puberty. She literally died because of how bad her dysphoria is :( and I think a lot of trans kids can relate to that shock (while not literally dying…). Also shout out to Kotaro for not outing her and for even calling the other zombies idiots for making a big deal out of it (cuz obviously some of them didn’t know how to handle it, with them being confused as to whether they should call her Masao now even tho she is very obviously still Lily and prefers Lily.) Also when the dad said the line “I know that girl can’t be Masao.” i choked up. It was such a beautifully tragic moment of acceptance. This show does a great job of balancing comedy and heartfelt emotions honestly because I still laughed in this episode too (Lily’s dad is…Huge.) and this shows stellar character writing is what makes those heartfelt moments really land. I’m glad they didn’t make a joke out of her being trans and the show was overall very respectful of her identity. I’m happy none of the girls switched up on her and kept this lighthearted. Just UGH A GREAT EPISODE AND DEFINITELY MY FAVORITE SO FAR.
