Ace wo Nerae! 2 and Mine Fujiko to lu Ona have the most pleasing character designs and art imo.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

Children of the sea is the first thing that comes to my mind. The story is unique and its animation is magnificent.

It's a 111-minute movie so don't hesitate and give it a try.

Like a million come to mind. Anime can be so diverse and beautiful. It's hard to pick the singular most aesthetic for me.

Anything Ghibli. I love Spirited Away. Mononoke and Mushishi also come to mind. Some others;

Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru

Ghost in the Shell

Violet Evergarden

As far as story-telling, some shows that I thought had really good stories were Death Note, Vandread, and Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken. There are others as well, but these are three of the shows that come off the top of my head.

I thought about including Yuu Yuu. I had such a crush on Kurama from all of the aesthetics that went into any scene where he's using any kind of power. Makes me miss older anime.

Redline is also pretty gorgeous, super unique visual style.

One of the most beautiful shows I've ever seen is Shitcom. The first time you look at it it might seem ugly, but when you think a little deeper about it you will feel like you got teleported into the mind of the artist/writer. The animation and art style are both 10/10 without a doubt. When you watch it you will appreciate the art even more. I think the artist is smarter than Einstein roughly seventeen times. I recommed Shitcom from the bottom of my heart!

For me, aesthetic is as much a narrative element as it is visual, so I hope these aren't weird choices.
Kino's Journey (2003) with its sense of intrepid adventure but with the contact wariness of danger in the back of your head.

Samurai Champloo. Combining the Edo period with the aesthetics of hip-hop was a work of genius.

Adolesence of Utena. More so than the tv series, I love the bolder fashion and colour choices for this one.

Bakemonogatari. The crazy people's classic that goes just about everywhere.

[Some Hounourable Mentions]
Ristorante Paradiso's warm, sensual tones.
The Night is Short Walk on Girl, being whatever you're supposed to call Yuasa's style.
Soul Eater's neverending punk vibe.
Yuru Camp's comfy everything.

Part 4-5 JoJo , what an eye candy and satisfying experience for me . It's so colorful and the face detail are also great.

Mob Psycho 100 , the comic artstyle is amazing , even if I watch it in 360p resolution

Shield Hero , enjoyed it very much

Mononoke ( the Medicine Seller, not the Princess ) - it's been on my favorite list's top spot since i watched it, never came across something quite as beautiful, it's simply amazing

Honorable mentions:
Gankutsuou - very unique visuals, might not be for everyone, I loved the look of it
Monogatari series - not everything but there are quite breathtaking scenes here and there that I enjoyed a lot

To not repeat any already on here,I'd choose California Crisis

too bad the story was all over the place, it's quite a neat (and obscure) OVA. The music's dope, and combined with the artstyle of the anime, just scream city-pop 80's aesthetic

also, if you like Redline, I suggest Dead Leaves

I find that older anime with quality higher than I would expect tend to impress me greatly. As a result I think these sorts of anime come to mind when the topic of 'aesthetically pleasing' is mentioned:

Kaiba
Planetes
Metropolis
FLCL

I admit these choices not quite the most impressive visually when you compare them to many of the title brought up in this discussion, but they impress me nonetheless.

Violet Evergarden, just like everyone pointed out.
Space Dandy, damn it looks phenomenal.

Also movies due to high budget, specially Garden of words.

Anime was it's best 20000 years ago, when cavemen drew art with real depth.
Modern anime is all garbage. I miss great old days of anime.

Znra said:
i'm seeing the same answers (and new ones) all over so I'll drop something you guys haven't seen or ones you missed out yet.

Metropolis
Steamboy
Akira
Lupin III - Fujiko Mine to iu onna
Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuioku-hen
Hunter X Hunter (1999-2008)

Interestingly, you may ask why on the last one. The 2011 reboot might look like the more appealing one than the old series in modern standards, and while the HxH reboot might have those dope fight scenes and clean sakuga esp. in Chimera Ant arc, it never had the same goosebumps, crafty sound design, tension, and cinematic factor the OG series had. For those who haven't seen the '99 series, I highly encourage you to do so and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I'm actually watching HxH 1999 right now and was thinking of the series as well, although my main reason is how I love the strong line work in older anime.. but the overall darker theme in HxH is also interesting, makes it more intense and almost horror-like, I feel.

Kenpuu Denki Berserk. Definitely not the one with the best visuals, but it has some of the best artwork I've ever seen (especially in the later episodes).

I even use this as my wallpaper.

The adaptation did a great job indeed; the Eclipse was truly beautiful. Who would have thought Berserk would receive the best and the worst adaptation huh?

As for me, first thing that comes to mind is Liz and the Blue Bird. Other than that I'd say The Tatami Galaxy. In terms of audiovisual experience, I guess these two are the best things I've ever seen. There's also The Tale of the Princess Kaguya; Kaiba; Monogatari series and Ping Pong the Animation. All of them impressive works.

Urusei Yatsura. The entire future funk movement rides on it, afterall.

For me personally I enjoy the look of 90s anime in general.

This particular music video just SCREAMS aesthetic to me. This is what I like.

I'm genuinely surprised that very few people here have mentioned webcore/animecore and vaporwave/future funk sorta anime like I constantly see on other sites, just recent stuff that doesn't really have any kind of distinct aesthetic other than "good animation"

A lot of stuff by director Shinbou Akiyuki from Shaft. Like Hidamari Sketch, Monogatari Series, Madoka Magica, and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei.
They are not necessarily massive budget projects like Shinkai Makoto and Miyasaki's stuff but they are pretty aesthetic, not in just beauty but in their uniqueness and the stuff going on in them.

Some of the ones that have stood out to me:

Fate/Stay Night: Heavens Feel: Some of the best fight sequences, both films have been total eye candy. Can't wait for spring song.
Monogatari: This is love or hate I reckon. I happen to love it - it's so stylish.
Sarazanmai: I watched this recently and I couldn't get over how goddamn pretty it is.
Garden of Words: I genuinely looked up whether or not they used real footage. Shame the story's not great.
Kono Danshi series: It's very unique and really pretty. It looks like a storybook. the aesthetics are the selling point tbh.

I also like a lot of old anime artstyles like:

Shoujo Kakumei Utena - Adolescence Mokushiroku: That film is an art piece. I just want to gif the whole thing especially that car transformation scene
End of Evangelion - iconic imagery
Tenshi no Tamago - bizarre film, stunning visuals
Patalliro! - yes it looks weird and I'm sure most people would hate it but I love it. It looks like a technicolour Beardsley artwork.
...also, old ghibli films like Nausicaa, Totoro, Laputa etc.

I agree with what a lot of people are saying, but Iblard Jikan wins this by a landslide!!

And this was mentioned before, but again (just to bring more attention to this), Kaguyahime no Monogatari was breathtaking in it's unique artstyle.

I'd mention these since no one did yet:
Mawaru Penguindrum. Unexpectedly detailed.
Also Hai to gensou no Grimgar. It had a very serene artstyle.

Edit: How could I forget The Dragon Dentist?! Amazing art and backgrounds.
