| So here's the thing. They needed to have someone else pilot with 02 for a few reasons. The first and probably the most important was verify that the rumors were true. People can die when piloting with her. Second, is that they needed to show this to the other kids to make it clear that MC is literally the only person who can pilot with her. Third, Hiro makes a comment as 02 is walking off. He says that he was hoping that she'd refuse to go with MC's friend. Hiro wanted some kind of proof that he was "special" to her. Now that he has seen his friend come close to death, he now has his proof that he is somewhat special and has a purpose to live. Basically this episode was lay some ground work for the MC. His choice to not stand up to the adults was the correct one. His friends were minutes away from dying and he wasn't even sure if he could pilot with 02. He made the logical and safe choice with what little time was left. If he put up a fight, his friends would have been killed. Ichigo even explains this a few seconds before 02 shows up by saying something along the lines of "It's my fault. If I wasn't so in my head would that have given 02 enough time to save us?" but then 02 shows up right after she says this and saves the day. Again, If OP was fighting with adults, his friends would be dead. If you want to call the MC a cuck or a crybaby then that's you're choice....but honestly I think it just makes you look like a fool for not understanding what's going on. |

| Does anyone know wht the cruchyroll subs translate "Kyouryuu" to Klaxosaur instead of just dinosaur? I mean I guess it makes it sound more sci fi and cool(?), but it seems unnecessary if the Japanese name wasn't implying any kind of proper noun for them. I was impressesed that Hiro made a mature decision to let his friends be saved, so far he doesn't seem like a terrible MC. I really hope this show picks up, though, cause these first 3 episodes have been kinda slow. | There was no way they were letting Hiro in the mech whatever he said, so maybe he was just backing down, but that's fair enough if the rest of his squad were in danger, wasting time arguing for the sake of your own ego when lives are at stake is a much bigger pussy move than anything done here. Also he's pretty sure he can pilot with Zero Two, and that all her previous partners died after 3 attempts, so letting the jackass who just ditched his own partner go with her once, actually killed two birds with one stone. Gets the rescue underway knowing Zero Two will handle it, and Mitsuru gets fucked up by a pretty harsh reality check at the same time. Which was obviously going to happen, unless he was somehow better than everyone else they ever paired her with Hiro must know she's focusing only on him for a reason, so if someone else thinks they can keep up with her, sure go ahead and try.. |

| What an absolute masterpiece episode. This literally fixed the big ? we had about the main male protagonist. He literally had 0 unique qualities besides personality until this episode. And yes, I was so fucking pissed when he cucked himself pretty much. BUT this proves that he's the only one that can pilot with her. So it was 100% worth. |

| And here I am beating my head over why they had to pilot their Franxxes in that position, and the whole “no one can pilot with 02 for more than 3 minutes“ is just another metaphor to finishing early. By every episode, it becomes clearer how horny and teen the writers of this series are. Although, in an Anime-esque setting, it works out just fine. |
