I swear, had the author had had the guts of taking his time and telling the story "floor by floor" and going all the way up to 100, it would've turned out epic. Such wasted potential.

It's not about having guts or not, it's about SAO having been written as a one shot for a writing competition. At first it was never intended to even go beyond the first volume.

Also am I the only one that think that this would have been pretty bad? There is only a set amount of problem that could happen in an environment like SAO and for the story to stay interesting they would have to encounter problems. Meaning that either they are waltzing through the floors or they encounter the same problems every floor which make the whole thing damn repetitive.
I'm sure nobody want to see the leading team go farm for a 15th time because this boss is also too strong.

Anyway if they ever animate Alicization you'll see the only reason why SAO is even considered a decent novel because it's the best arc by far.
Isn't One Piece basically that though? The main crew going on adventures and visiting islands all the time?

ALso Yes Calliber is "filler". It's existance is really for a refresher before Alicization. Which is really the only reason SAO is considered a good Light novel now that I think about it. But Mother's Rosario was still pretty good.

But a filler is something that's added to an adaptation and doesn't come from the source material. Basically no matter how unrelated to the main plot something is, if it comes from the source material it isn't a filler.

Usually this kind of stuff leave no impact on the story which make a lot of people think that anything that doesn't leave impact on the story is a filler but that is completely untrue.

Doing it as a manga is lunacy.

In novel you can write most of it in few paragraphs.
In manga dozens of chapters will be wasted on that nonsense.

Didn't mind this arc, and don't know why anyone else would. It had mostly action, a bit of mythology, and it had an awesome Trap Freya/Thor combination.

Though.... I've been waiting for MR for sooo long!
I thought this mini arc would last just 2 episodes. Didn't expect it to drag.
And they seriously should have explained the part about Skuld being a GM in disguise, the poor dude really needed some love.

By the way.... does anyone think there isn't enough episodes left for MR?
I'm actually a bit worried about where we'll end this thing...

Anything that doesn't impact the overall story is padding, no matter which type of storytelling it is. Filler is padding. They're pretty much the same thing. It doesn't matter if it came from the creator or not. Adding unnecessary pieces to the overall plot is just bad writing.

It's not bad writing if it stays in good proportions.
A story need some form of relief, something that follow a linear line through the plot from start to end is what I'd call bad writing.

Ahem, there exists SAO:Progressive, which is just that: A story of SAO floor by floor ;-)

I honestly doubt Reki will do every single floor but he wrote that he will do as many as he can, the issue is as you said that the story can get too repetitive. (Also obviously the time you need to do that, in the first 2 Progressive volumes only 4 floors were covered, meaning 71 floors to go, so 35 novel at least if we go with the same pace)

Also both MR and GGO are fine as arcs, especially MR, even the first one is fine if you let the sidestories be sidestories and don't try to integrate them in the main story :P

Except novels need to have an entire story arc in each book, there has to be a definitive beginning, middle, and end in each one, and usually have a sizable gap per release. The way manga is published (usually monthly or weekly installments) allow for it to be able to drag it out in a way (look at fucking Nise Koi, you cannot adapt that shit into a novel form)

Well....the first SAO was ruined by ALO and this one is heading in the same direction....

There are way too many "WTF moments" in this anime =_=

Just make SAO just another harem anime when it could of been a lot more

Plus...Sinon would of worked a lot better as a character if she got off of Kirito's D

Is Agil ever going to speak in this anime or is he just going to be the background black guy who is ignored by everyone????

Yui is such a cheat. Gotta love Frayja and her magic skills. Mages rock.

Frayja is pretty powerful for being able to grab that hammer. And wth she turned into a guy, more like Thor.

When Kirito was pulling out that sword, I was like LOL at his groans.

Ah he had to throw away the excalibur sigh... Gotta love what Sinon did, best girl! I just had to rewatch that scene cuz so cool!

The heck- why is Klein interested in Skuld? Dat scene was a bit awkward. Dat food scene!

Anyways, I did like this esp. dat cool Sinon scene was damn cool.

The sword was literally too heavy for him to carry. He couldn't put the sword in his inventory since they didn't complete the quest yet.

Having read a lot about northern mythology, that arc was pretty foreseeable for me (It was all Heimdalls idea :D). The norns (Urðr, Skuld and Verðandi) were totally different to the mythology tho...
All in all, I think it was a good arc, better than the last two, although it was very, very short.

I can recommend reading the Edda to everyone that enjoyed this arc and likes to read actual books!

So this arc ended.
Freyja transformed into Thor. A trap. Klein's reaction was lol.
They found the Excalibur. Although it was too heavy, Kirito still managed to carry it. When he threw it, Sinon made a shot to take it back.
Asuna and other's reaction when Sinon said something to Kirito...

And once again we are shown stuff that directly contradicts the supposed "relationship" between Kirito and Asuna. They pretty much dedicate an entire scene in this episode just to make all the SinonXKirito fans happy. Asuna was standing there a few meters away and she didn't even try to tell Sinon that Kirito is her boyfriend? After Sinon clearly flirts with Kirito right in front of her?! LOL give me a break with this bullshit wish fulfillment. This is not a romance, it's a harem.

Funny how Kirito gets EVERYTHING and Klein gets absolutely NOTHING. A hammer that isn't even suited for his character, nice... Poor Klein I really feel for you. Kirito better help out with that gear you wanted from the start of this arc. I have a feeling that he won't though.

Can Yui stop with the retarded "Daddy" talk already? It's pretty obvious that no one but her is taking the relationship between Kirito and Asuna seriously. Let it go girrrl. Fuck Kirito you would be much happier flying around someone loyal like Klein. Klein is a gentleman as was seen when he alone wanted to rescue the lady trapped behind the ice. I guess that woman was too old for Kirito or else he would have done the same, lol Kirito is just a little kid.

On a side note, why does Kirito alone deserve to wield Excalibur? I mean the sister would just as well need a new sword wouldn't she? Everyone seems to think that Kirito should get everything by default for some reason. And that speech at the end about how the wielder must be a strong man... *pukes*

0/5, would never watch again unless being tortured to do so :)

For this very short arc, I liked the selection of OSTs and the battles, but the plot was very underwhelming and nearly nonexistent. I understand that they couldn't really do too much with only a few episodes, but I felt it could have been a bit more enticing at the very least. The show tried adding weight and relevance to it two episodes ago, but the gravity of the situation wasn't really touched on again until the end of the quest where we're reminded that ALO isn't going to be destroyed thanks to Kirito and friends. This leaves the Mother's Rosario arc I've been hearing so much about at only seven episodes. I hope it won't feel too rushed.

This arc gets a 4/10 from me. I'm sure it was probably executed better in the LN and that the gravity of the plot could be felt more, but these three episodes didn't really add anything to my experience with the show as a whole.

Lastly...
