The overall final impression is great, but there's no denying that the first half of the series was far, far less interesting than the rest of it. It's not just Nanachi in my opinion, it's the darker turn the story took around the time they met Ouzen that made it much better and saved the manga, if such rumours are true.

OH MY GOD! 2 episode special! everyone will rage if no S2!
If episode 10 was already hard to watch, this episode 13 is totally on a different league!
I actually cried when Nanacchi cried after Reg incinerated Mitty that was SO SAD!!!
The part where Mitty changed in to an abomination was to cruel to watch!
Riko finally woken-up and is already buddies with Nanacchi.
Looks like the three is now ready to embark another adventure with all those preparations!
10/5!
9/10!
damn 8.78 top 31 already!?!?
For me, this is my AOTS!

This last episode sure packed a big punch, however I cant forgive the countless boring fillers we were presented week after week. This show could have been more with better pacing, but as it is I cant give more than 5/10 overall.

Holy shit . . .

I didn't expect a 45min episode...

...and this was the best finale i have seen for an anime in a very long time.

I am at a loss for words, though it was so well tied up that i can safely say it's completely self-explanatory, and showing.
Definitely a 9/10.

Yes I cried, yes the animation is beautiful, yes the music was soothing, yes the story was amazing...

But dayum, Mitty's boobs.

I cried so much during this episode, more than I did throughout the entirety of Clannad and Angel Beats. I was at a loss for words when it ended. The music was perfect, the emotion put into every scene was just right. I was hit the hard with the way Nanachi's treasure was keeping her alive, while simultaneously destroying her, and her dialogue made it clear she was planning on killing herself very soon after Mitty died.

As for the show, it's easily a 10/10. Even with some parts I didn't particularly care for (bit too slow in the middle portion at the second layer), this show is wonderfully crafted. Beautiful art, amazing music, and the characters and dialogue are handled with such care that I rarely ever see other shows do. A welcome addition to my favorites.

I really hope the sales of this show turn out to be good, and it continues into another season. It really deserves it.

It felt like Nanachi should have been the protagonist. Reg is ok but Riku feels totally bland and even inhuman compared to the other two.

What an amazing finale! it's has been a while since i am this focus and immersed when watching anime. Pack full with emotions. My heart T T

Great show. It had a shaky mid section with a few average episodes of nothing really happening, but picks up again towards the end with incredibly emotional and probably THE most blood-curdling scenes in anime.!

Agree. I didn't have this much love for this show at the beginning, may be because i am impatient? the show does a good job giving me the excitement of adventure in a mysterious world. all thanks to the world building in earlier episodes but some of those are also episodes that felt slow and uneventful.

Liked that ending. It shows that this is only the beginning of an exciting but dangerous journey.

Yes! I can't wait to delve deeper into the world of Made in Abyss. i feel like the story has just began. I was so sad for nanachi and was glad seeing her pull herself together and go on an adventure with regu and riko - this made a fresh start for all of them after all these ordeals with riko almost dead and mitti's farewell.

we are getting into the darker part of the story and i am excited.

A 2nd season please~ please please do give me another season! continue with the amazing art and beautiful soundtracks! kudo for not taming on the gore and sexual elements like some animes do

great show 8.5/10

oh almost forgot to say so as to vent my wrath. want to punch the hell out of that guy with the beautiful voice of Toshiyuki Morikawa for the victims. to make them gone through this! ROAR. Felt a burst of killing intent when he showed up at the last scene

the series is aptly named "made in abyss" considering riko was born in abyss and reg came from abyss the only one who was not from abyss is nanachi but then again in a way nanachi got remade by those horrible experiments inside the abyss(note to self : stop thinking of Bondrewds experiment before having a seizure)

Does anyone know what Nanachi is doing with the cave raider in the scene when he/she says "I'm sorry for forcing you to stay alive for nothing"? Is he/she trying to save injured raiders, before realizing that he is too badly injured to survive and thus kills him out of mercy? Or is he/she experimenting on mortally wounded raiders in order to find a way to kill Mitty? Also, why are there so many graves near the house?

if she's keeping him alive knowing he will die anyway it's safe to say she's experimenting. and the graves I assume are from the cave raiders that died nearby

Well, that was sad. I like how Nanachi hesitated before giving Reg the go-ahead.

It bugs the hell out of me, though, that the author keeps bringing up how Riko pees herself. Is it an attempt to make the story more realistic and mature, or just some fetish? When in the previous episodes Nanachi kept repeating that she had bled from her genitals, I felt like this thing was going over the line. Then there's the implication that Reg had an erection, which feels pretty inappropriate as well. Sure, children aren't exactly oblivious to such things, but still.

Maybe it's just one of those artistic choices that I just don't understand. I'm reminded of Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom, where REAL kids touch each other as a plot point of sexual awakening. Still creeps me the fuck out.

Ahhh, I wasn't overly enamoured with the 1st 3 eps, but this series was so good and a definite 10/10. The world building and art was beautiful. The soundtrack was incredible, and the characters felt so real.

There has to be a S2!

Wow.. how many years has it been since a single episode managed to hit me so hard emotionally. Mitty's transformation scene actually made me reel from the horror infused in that scene. Not that much due to the gore but more on how the characters must be feeling during that moment. The entire last scene with Mitty made me realize how much these characters made you invest into them with just so few episodes. That went right through the heart.

Nanachi and Mitty's backstory, which I (unfortunately) knew about before watching, is extremely straightforward and basic; almost such that you can bash it for being too obvious / one-dimensional. But nobody can, since, well, it's so powerful. Did get the feeling that it's a little rushed though.

Anyway, I have a no crying policy...or tendency while enjoying any kind of media, and I'd have to admit that I went the closest to that since I heard Blackstar for the first time last year. I think I used that sentence quite recently, but cos I can't remember when I did so presumably this exceeded that particular moment.

Nothing much to say about the rest of the show that hasn't been already said. 8/10, probably will be AOTY

This serie wasn't anything special, excessively slow paced and predictable, censored, and nothing really happened apart the last 3 episodes. The sad part is that the best action arc start now, unfortunately it was the last episode. >_>
I've read the manga till chapter 42, and i can say that the manga is much better compared to the anime.

For this episode 4/5, probably the best of the serie, overall 5/10.

From all the airings I have seen this year so far, this was my favorite, the first episodes were kinda slow, but later on, it really become something worth waiting weekly, that coming from someone that doesnt like to see airing stuff (prefer batch) means this series really had to be compelling to keep my interest.

It surely only got darker and more mysterious, the MC cast werent that interesting but the later developmente surely helped making both enjoyable, Nanachi was the true star here.

While the OP & ED wasnt much to fret about, there were some really beautiful tracks for this series, gotta go grab the OST for sure!

45 minutes for the final episode made sense for what they wanted to adapt, making this whole episode way longer, but with a pacing that really nailed the whole reveal and development for Nanachi and Mitty, I shed some manly tears there. Nicely done to the studios, you can easily see they loved doing the project.

S2 will be nice but I will probably dig into the manga way before that.

8.9/10

My god...I must have used up half of a tissue box during this episode. I wasn´t sure how I was gonna rate this show in the end (was thinking about 9/10 so far), but this masterpiece of a episode just completely destroyed me. This show is going into my favorites no matter what, and I don´t think I will be able to hold myself back from starting the manga asap.
I witnessed a loli spill from a cartridge and somehow retained my sanity.

Great show, and easily AOTS for me. The characters, mystery, the OST, the visuals, the feeling of exploration and the sense of dread that comes with the journeying into the unknown and the overall adventure. This show hits all my personal likes. The chances are slim but I'm hoping for a S2 down the line when there's enough material to adapt.

This final episode was excellent beyond a doubt. I haven't cried like that watching anime in a long time. This show as a whole was outstanding. The character designs (which were what initially piqued my interest), the background art, the world design, and the music come together flawlessly to produce a magnificent spectacle propelled further by a compelling and gratifying narrative.
...
The ONLY thing wrong with the show is that the mangaka is clearly a closeted pedophile.

You need to understand that without Riko, this group would essentially fall apart. Riko is Reg's mental fortitude of the series and Nanachi's optimistic view that helped her from offing herself especially with a fucked up tragic past like hers. I can't tell you what Riko witnesses later within the next arc, but a strong majority would've lost hope or gone insane after seeing how truly horrifying the abyss is and what it does to people who challenge it.

Basically, her "happy go lucky" attitude is what keeps the "childish" aspect of the anime still going or else this would've turned into a story of miserable suffering of children as they go deeper.

Almost perfect adaptation with pacing being only problem, but it was understandable due to limited number of episodes.

Yeah I know, I was just being inflammatory. I've tried to make actual, decent points in this thread and just tired of how toxic the fan base for this show is. Probably won't respond anymore as I have made my points.

You realize all big fanbases are toxic? OPM's is very cancerous. Like 90% of it are anime-only retards who can only spam Saitama vs Goku/Allmight/etc thread over and over.

This just feels like one of those "once in 5 years" anomalies that bring anime to an unusually high level. Everything about this show was done as well as you can hope for in an anime, and I love that they didn't pull any punches considering the inherent risk of the adventure.

Easy 10/10 for me, I haven't been this captivated by an anime since Ping Pong.

i seriously think .... bondrewd guy will prolly get a bad ending in the near future. i dont wanna spoil anybody here but he is "best dad" next to boku no hero academia todoroki's dad. and when he reaches the end of abyss. he will be greeted by god. "all your efforts are in vain coz there is no secret at the end of the abyss. there is no treasure. The adventure you experience all the way to the abyss is the treasure. he will rage quit. and be crazy. the end. i wanna see and ending where bondrewd becomes nanachi's pet. where she cuts his limb every minute with an automated machine." thats the ending fitted for him.
i cried a river. i had nightmares from mitty.
this is the best anime of this year ... well i rather not pick boku no hero yet since it has 3rd season as well.
THIS ANIME SHOULD NOT BE WATCHED BY CHILDREN. IDK IF IT HAS 13+ TAG ON IT.
i seriously think reg is the god of abyss.
