This is incredibly sad, it's too difficult to summarize Miura's influence and legacy in words so all I will say is I am grateful for his work.
Honestly, I'm extremely heartbroken. Berserk was one of my favourite pieces of media of all time and Guts is my second favourite character...
May he rest in peace and my heart go out to his family.

That's tragic as hell, I Guess it's been since Stanley Lee's death, when I actually last remorsed over someone I didn't know in person. RIP legend. You were my best mangaka I hope your soul finds solace

I haven't read Beserk yet, but I respect this man for what he created. 54 is too young to die, my condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

Hope there will be a time where he can watch a proper anime adaption of his work from heaven.

All the jokes about Miura or Togashi dying before finishing their work are now hitting harder than ever before. Why do the great have to die so young? Hiromi Tsuru died due to the very same condition!

I heard some news that Miura raised his assistants to be able to imitate his artwork. Now if he gave the OK for them to take over in the worst case scenario, maybe we'll get to see the ending after all. Alas, with Miura gone it's just not going to be the same...

Rest in Peace Sensei, you'll be greatly missed.

People are saying that Berserk "wasn't popular enough" but I wholly disagree; it's was the perfect popular you can want: unknown enough to to be grabbed and milked by soulless hacks like Disney (See: Star Wars), and yet epic enough that its fans truly genuine care about it more than anything:

If that is not the primest condition to have it resume by the RIGHT people, I just don't know what is.

I don't underestimate this man: someone who loved it and wanted to see it done just as much as all the fans, something this passionate, this detailed, wouldn't let it die with him. It makes no sense.

Add in how he was already raising assistants to match him, knew of his advancing age/health, I just have a feeling.

One end is another beginning, as they say.

That doesn't mean I don't hate this news, miss him, can think of so many people I am counting down to die, and yet it had to be someone I never wanted to; and would gladly make the exchange every day of the week until the end of time between them, but I also can't underestimate this man.

He was a legend for a reason, let's not forget.

Life can be cruel and unfair. At worst it can traumatize and cripple you. The desire for wanting things to return to the way they were can cost everything and changes nothing. The best way is to keep moving forward, struggle on.
Anger can be powerful but can only get you so far. Let people into your life even if some of them leave you in time.

Fight. Like. Hell. For everything and everyone you love. Always.

I haven't finished reading Berserk, but the chapters I did read were absolutely amazing. He knew how to write phenomenal characters alongside unforgettable art. Of course, the plot in itself was extraordinary.

I remember reading Berserk for the first time and my mind was blown. The Golden Age Arc was just utterly astonishing. I'm so thankful that I was able to read this masterpiece.

May Kentarou Miura rest in piece. Thank you for being a legend.

RIP Miuara, the manga industry lost one of the GOAT's

I was planning to do a Berserk reread since it has been so many years. Chances of getting a proper ending were slim, but it really is a different feeling when all the hope is gone.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

This is heartbreaking... I started reading Berserk in 2005 and it has been with me for most of my life. It's such a shame that Mr Kentaro Miura won't be able to finish his magnum opus. I just hope he knew how much his works meant to so many. They changed countless lives and influenced industries. Rest in piece Mr Miura, and thank you for sharing your talents with us.

This happened out of nowhere. This is a fucking travesty. I was just catching up with the manga recently (roughly 290 chapters behind)... This is just unfathomable. Like I can't grasp this shit.

Rest. in. fucking. PEACE. You FUCKING legend.

I can't believe it. My boyfriend and I just got into Berserk a few months ago starting with the original '97 anime, watched the movies and quickly decided to buy a 6 deluxe volumes of the manga because we were so fascinated by it. Especially my s/o.

I already knew about most plot points in the Golden Age Arc, so watching it with him and enjoying his reactions to it was a wonderful experience. I told him back then that the story of Berserk is not finished and it was still gonna take some time to get to its ending. Now we know it may never get to that point.

My condolences go out to Miura's family, the loved ones he left behind. He will be greatly missed. I maybe haven't been a big fan up until recently, but hearing about the fact that he had passed away made me tear up quite a lot. It is just not fair. I'm sure there are many people who have been fans for much, much longer than us two, who feel even more heartbroken. I'm sorry for you, too. The world is a cruel place. I hope he was genuinely happy in his last moments.

What if he left story notes and an outline? It would still be his story, and I feel his assistants can more-or-less match his art. It could work.
