| I love how the story's slowly developing, the plot is great yet every episode individually is so interesting as well ^^ Zoro's so cool. That pink-haired guy is a bit annoying, not as much as Capt. Morgan's son, though. One Piece <3 <3 |

| Yeah, Colby is a bit whiny here, but he has more guts than even the marines stationed here. I think the base idea established in this early arc is that the morality of the series isn't black and white. The Marines aren't automatically good and pirates aren't automatically evil, despite the common stereotypes the population seems to have. It's funny, because even here at the beginning Luffy seems quite overpowered compared to "normal people". His base abilities as a rubber man certainly are useful. Zoro's earnestness, genuineness, and perseverance are all presented right from the get-go. |

| Episode 2: The Great Swordsman Appears! Pirate Hunter Roronoa Zorro. Luffy overconfidence and fearless attitude towards anythings is great, after a bit we meet Helmeppo, a spoiled kid who does nothing by himself and his Marine father with a corrupt system in town, when he is the supreme authority. We see Coby with a good sense of justice (tried to untie Zorro, when he understand that not all marines are good.) Zorro with a strong determination for what Zorro seems like an ok guy, with some past. Next Episode: fight against Morgan. |

| Got to say re-watching this and reading the manga alongside it, that it was a great decision to include Nami in these early episodes. |

| Luffy and Coby finally arrived at the Marine Base to find Zoro and it looks like Nami followed them too. Compared to Alvina, Morgan looks awesome and has a sturdy basis for his narcissism but it looks like he usually leaves the work to the cronies. Aside from Zoro being a good guy despite being pretty bloodthirsty, his willingness to eat sugary riceballs that were stomped on and finding it delicious was a surprise even if he hadn't eaten for 3 weeks. Once he gets out, he'll be able to eat some real food hopefully. |

| it's actually really fun to see the small differences between the manga in the anime. makes it feel like you're experiencing something new even though you know what happens. i think i made the right decision to read and watch at the same time, although i'll be reading far ahead |
| Zoro's first introduction was great and diverted expectations of what we had thought of him due to earlier statements from koby. Helmeppo's design is also good as it is easy to hate him |
