Finally back after two years and we are already diving into things right from the get go.
Loled at when the camera suspiciously focused on Reine when Mio Takamiya was mentioned. So even using Michael wasn't enough to unveil Shido's past. More Kurumi always great and we are already in for a big fight. So ready for volume 19!
I hoped this season would finally have a good pace, but it's not going to happen. Not everything will be adapted yet, but they will grind 4 volumes again... 2 of them being very dense.
And they cut the most important part, which were the flashbacks showing the origin of Dem and Mio...
Yeah, a bad adaptation, as expected

the origin of dem and Mio will be shown later, they already did it like this for the kurumi arc in season iv.
On the contrary, the pace was excellent and 95% faithful to the light novel. A little rushed, but much better than season 4. And the designs are good too

@MaouHero read my article. No point in trying to drag the series at this point. Light novel ended 4 years ago. Manga ended over 10 years ago. Series is super old. Fanbase are pretty much working adults now.
It is way too expensive to go any slower and will reduce audience reception. Japan is in financial trouble.

@SpiderMiles3523 Date a Live is a very stable series. If that were the problem, they would have ended it all by now, or there wouldn't have been S4 at all.
There's a gacha game that seems to do really well in Japan and China. And even the last VN will be released in English for PS and Switch.
This clearly shows the demand for the show. The horrible adaptation is not exclusive to DaL, almost every Kadokawa show is like this.
ok, it's finally here, kinda weird their started the season from the Last Arc, since in the original LN they started from Takamiya Mio Past, i think the Producer want to make Mio Past to be special huh, excited for the next episode !!!
Glad to have Date a Live back and they wasted no time putting us back in the thick of things, picking up right where last season ended.
All the usual banter and harem antics, plus a nice Kurumi themed episode as she prepares for the coming war. I kinda hated on her until season 4’s last arc, but I really have enjoyed the characterisation they’ve given her and gained a lot of respect for this battle she’s been fighting on her own all these loops.
We also got some more hints as to Shido’s past, but it still largely remains a mystery. After over a decade of watching this franchise I’m very much looking forward to seeing that finally explained in this season and the final battle. Taking on Isaac and Ellen won’t be easy even with all the spirits and abilities.
It’s good that the series has finally got a consistent studio too, switching studios every season prior really did a number on it.
The sub released much earlier than I expected wtf. Literally the same time as the episode started on Japanese TV.
One of my most anticipated anime this season. Last season's ending was pretty insane. And today's also Tohka's birthday, nice.
Nice episode. I know this is gonna be good (I heard we'll be getting a lot of Kurumi this season after all), but ngl I need a recap or something lol. What does DEM want to do anyway?
@Embient Westcott want to kill Shido, so that all the spirits would invert and then he would get all their crystals.
Novelist Koushi Tachibana's Date A Live series has lasted up to Season 5, coming back after 2 years and continuing into Volume 17 of the LN: Kurumi's Ragnarok.
I'm believing that this is NOT the final season yet, there's still a reminder of 6 LN volumes to go through to necessitate a Season 6, the TRUE final season.
Kurumi is in absolute crisis trying to save her friend, but to do that, she needs Shido's Spirit of Origin to help her out. Moreover, there's one more Spirit in the form of Mio Takamiya, she could very well be the Phantom that the others have decoded. And to do that, using Michael to unlock Shido's shrouded memories, it certainly worked...to the detriment of Origami faking it for a Sleeping Beauty kiss. And with those memories, Shido was certain that he saw someone, but trying on Mana would help too, but it definitely took a strain on him for using Michael. On the other hand, DEM getting thwarted by Kurumi's Zaphkiel attacks is a sure-fire way of burning her powers through, though their goal has not changed to eliminate Shido.
Kurumi's clone informing the news that the OG Kurumi will try all she can to bring a future where Shido survives, that's an awful lot of work, but when all is said and done, he will come to rescue Kurumi too, and give her his kiss. Even Woodman chimes in on the fact that defeating Isaac Westcott and Ellen Mathers is key to DEM's downfall, aside from Nibelcolle giving them help, Shido and the gang really need all the help they can get. Even getting Origami's group in this feel contrived, but they're essentially blocked out on all corners. War is nothing but inevitable against DEM Industries.
Once again, sweet ARMS is designated to the ED, which this time, the song is actually good.
Hopefully the remainder will stick its guns for one epic battle.
But imo if an epilogue ever gets animated, it will probably take like 5-10 years. Well selling anime don't just get cancelled unless it flopped on release.
The song alone will make people emotional. Sweet arms is a real underrated band.
Bruh, I already had some suspicion on who the new mystery girl is based off what they did in this episode, but did they just straight-up spoil it in the ending???
@YuushaNi They already showed in S4 some of this hinting at it.
So while it may be someone posed as her or not we aren't sure (anime viewers including me as stopped reading the light novels around the S4 period of content so I'm in the dark as well) and the camera angles in S5 Episode 1 do want us to keep her in mind from that last episode of S4 we don't no for sure.
(having watched the Date A Bullet movies right after this episode even if they released prior to S4 and related to S4 Kurumi/Sawa moments, as I hadn't seen them yet maybe someone with similar to Kurumi's powers or Kurumi's powers transferred to Sawa or something or because Phantom giving out the crystals has some of those abilities without removing the powers entirely to the crystals given to the girls).
I am just making up theories and not a lot really at all to say I don't actually know. The foreshadowing of the series has been slow ever since S2 with the DEM and other aspects or Origami's arc in S3 or a bunch of other factors so the more being revealed is nice but eventually those tid bits seem to keep waiting to tell us.
I mean S1 Kotori arc it took till they got those memories back and without Nia's power (as wasn't relevant then) let alone they don't really tell you in the anime but do I think a bit more detail it in the light novel I just don't remember what they are. So depends how the anime presents it/how the author intended really with how drawn out some details are.
Even Mana asking and we get a 'nah you can't tell yet'. We may get a Shido/Kotori talk about it or Mana does have memories explored as if a the user of it struggled to be effected by it (or Shido then Mukuro using it fully then Shido partial use of the power).
I can only assume though.
Well besides the light novel readers.
I need to get back to the light novels and finish from the Volume 16+ part of S4 and the ones 18+ S5 will cover up until Volume 22 which S6 will cover. So I am no more aware then anime viewers at this point.
@Unosottor-Sensei It's likely up to Volume 18 out of 22 (or a portion left of Volume 17) so nah it will be either S6 or a movie/two movies maybe I think to go.
I just checked the light novel (by images at least or chapter names). I have not read 16-22 so I have no idea what's going on and an anime viewer level of understanding at this point so I can't spoil what I know nothing about. XD
So 16 was part of S4. The first half of 17 is S4 as well.
I just came across the bit where Mana/Origami talk to the AST which we see in S5 Episode 1 so it's about halfway through Volume 17 right now.
We will get some interesting fun moments and I assume some other stuff from the brief images I skimmed through without context.
No idea about the battle Episode 2 will have but I could tell by some mid-season 5 moments what may happen kind of.
I barely remember anything. Will just have to wing it as we go on.
@RioFS I recommend having the English dub as background noise. The show requires a rewatch especially entering this season. The finale is probably the best in ln history.
Date A Live Season 5!
Well I started watching from S1 a month ago and finished S4 yesterday, so I'm into the story, S4 leads directly into S5.
Still, I'm not used to the Studio Geek Toys Character designs, they somehow make everything look like from a child series.
But I'm looking forward to Best Girl Kurumi, she takes centre stage! Let's see what kind of war this will be, and what Kurumi has in mind when she said "shall we begin our date".
Btw, will S5 be the last season??
@Forphy ''Still, I'm not used to the Studio Geek Toys Character designs, they somehow make everything look like from a child series'' yeah its something to get used to for sure
So yeah. its s5.
To be honest so. i have no idea if or how.
We're reached the point in date a live where kurumi is the last girl, so what happens after kurumi arc is anybody's guess.
From what i know though like, im not sure. i dont think they'll be able to cram the rest of the anime in, so right now my/the speculation is that the ending is gonna be a movie or Something? s5 is a weird thing since we're so close to the end
So anyway. s4 left us hanging in the middle of the kurumi arc with some of the last(?) big spoilers.
Kurumi something, one thing. or rather, like, i was spoiled about it a long time ago and the foreshadowing is BLATANTLY there if you go and rewatch s1, but yeah reine was behind Well, maybe not everything. date a live is still keeping some sekrets from us.
But anyway so right now, no idea what reine is up to. the immediate issue is kurumi is one thing and we also have to constantly deal with dem every time, soo whats gonna happen now? who knows. tbh date a live has always been like that, we had some really dark moments here and there and like more and more uh, while not super violence actual fighting yes
One last thing is that. in s4 the op was by tomita miyu, but i dont think she actually voiced anyone in s4? it seems like she's doing the op for s5 as well but i dunno. are they really gonna introduce even more characters at this point? i mean i say that even though s4 introduced nibe and artemisia and shrug
Speaking of artemisia its heavily implied that she's either tricked and/or being mind controlled or something along those lines. shrug
anyway now we are back
looks like this is some kind of flashback from reine's perspective. or well
i mean clearly reine has something but what and why i dunno
anyway back to our case we left off with kurumi vs reine.
still kinda confusing. looks like reine managed to escape
kurumi talking intensifies. kurumi has always been like the sekret one
back to shido and shido explains
the strange thing is what now? since if/when kurumi explains the whole reine thing to the gang im really wondering what will happen to reine. though there's a decent chance reine might just move first.
kurumi has always been a thing i guess, while reine has just been you know, siting around
is it just me or do the twins look a bit too similar
also by the way after disappering for the entire s3 and most of s4 mana is here. im like the only person that cares about mana but le orz.
has shido always been that much taller than the other girls or is it just camera angles
there is a possibility that the whole thing isnt quite the same. or is it? like where is kurumi now and what is going on
also yeah. date a live hasnt actually told us about like, we know shido is adopted by kotori's family but how and why
loots of talking. talking required.
so apparently they're gonna use michael to try and unlock shido's memories. convenient. if it works
well uh. this is convenient. i mean i dont remember the exact number of years but its like 30 years or maybe around there since the first spirit.
like we have all the girls, mana, and reine here all at the same time. its pretty cramped isnt it. and thats not even counting kurumi
one thing i have been thinking about is its funny that, date a live anime s1 was 2013, and here in 2024. like uh
even taketatsu ayana i dunno
anyway so yeah memory shenanigans. another day
somehow i have a bad feeling. either its also gonna fail on mana or maybe even worse
meanwhilee
i mean idk
but kurumi is gonna be in big trouble soon
time travel plots man
oh hey how convenient of kurumi to show up
i mean its really weird because off screen kurumi has been
so shido and kotori have no idea of just what dem is up to
but they really should have expected that dem wasnt going to just sit around
its also like you know. reine has laways been on and off but now that we the viewers know it really is weird. no idea when shido and co will know though
it would be really funny if the whole thing was a red herring but yeah uhh
i dont remember actually. dem has been escalating things ever since they showed up and it would be pretty oof
i mean i highly doubt dem is just gonna roll over. if anything they've been surprisingly stubborn so far
we have a whole lot of spirits on our side but like, its not like they are all based on combat
anyway its a rather convoluted strategy. so basically they arent allowed to actually tell each other their plans and have to just wing it when the battle starts. kinda dark and twisted that you're not allowed to communicate at all
kurumi talking to herself has always been word
im not sure. it sounds like one of those details that got left out in the anime adaptation but, like how much limit does kurumi actually have? i assume its to do with the fact that she basically has to go around kkilling other people in order to charge up her own powers
wait. did the ast even show up at all in s4? its been so long since they were relevant that i dont remember anymore. i think the last time they were like legitimately important was back in s2? its possible they showed up in s3/4 a bit here and there but for the most part
curious though since its not like they have any stake in the matter
also you know origami and mana etc kinda funny but also weird
i have no idea how much time is supposed to have passed each vol. i assume like each vol probably only takes about 3-7 days. maaybe two weeks for some of the more time consuming ones
its origami alright, just blasting away indoors
so yeah here is the kurumi scene where we see, presumably each clone requires exactly one
Anyway a very very long talking scene and introduction. are we gonna jump straight into the battle next time?
This is the op right? or is the ed. either way we see reine yeah.
Dont remember much about s1 or s2. s3 and s4 had some pretty quiet eds as well.
The ed is really quiet and simple though. assuming this is the actual ed, none of the other girls show up as well
No idea so i guess we'll see the op next time.
Ok so the preview. the battle starts next ep but there'll be a bit more talking. we have like...i dont even know, i lost count how many girls we have
Like, we have kotori, tohka, yoshino, (kurumi is offscreen), then the twins (2), miku, natsumi, origami, nia, mukuro, and then mana and reine. thats ten plus kurumi plus mana and Reine which is 10-13
Not much to say here, the ep itself is mostly just talking and setup for the next ep. there's still so much we dont know
Animelist has this listed for 12 eps. are we getting 4 vols or 3 vols? Hmm.
so no, dal has been entirely produced and financed by china since 2020 (thanks to the dal spirit pledge game). Chinese fans have set up this project since 2017, and allowed the license to survive and this peak to see the light of day.
I can never thank them enough, in fact the success and the hype are even greater than in season 4.
For this first episode, the animation was pretty and especially the designs were really cool. We have still seen much worse on the animation market (as jc staff).

this episode is a 9/10 honestly
@benjic665 It's too much. There probably won't be anything related to the past at the beginning, and when "that" happens it will be shown. But there will be too much to show, so they should only show a part and rush the rest. Everything related to DEM will probably be very rushed, just like S4

the pretty ass character design and the director's love for the bloom filter is fooling ya'll
Date A Live begins its newest season with a bang. The Spirits and Ratatoskr begin their preparations of war against the DEM in a fight that has been foreshadowed all the way back in season 2. This episode delivers this aura of uneasiness and dread, while at the same time, it never abandons the heartwarming and comedic roots that made Date A Live so beloved in the first place.
Credit where credit is due: this episode is smart and knows that, instead of throwing the characters and the viewers into the action, it slowly builds up to that moment and gives them a small moment of peace before everything blows up. Hopefully, the show will keep up that momentum as the Spirits' biggest challenge yet approaches.

@Ronninn how can you be so clueless on the plot of a 10 year old show with only 50 episodes. Show is already polled 2nd
it's been so long following this anime, now on season 5 + a few movies.
Mukuro still prettiest girl for me. But fav girl is still Miku... I almost got bit by a dog helping a friend get a cosplay costume from a tailor. lol
anyway on to the story.. how can they lose? They have the help of Kotomine Kirei (Woodman). XD
Origami when she's not out for revenge, is actually a very nice person. She could have killed those girls when they refused to ignore DEM orders, but just gave them a warning instead. Perhaps they are shocked she is now a spirit.
I'm starting to like the Kurumi clone who went to warn Shidou. Like her more than the original.
I'm finally back on date with this anime and the girls; kurumi, origami, itsuka kotori and the yamai twins which I hope to see with more active posts
and a date with this season after two years
I'm so excited let's date a live
More Date A Live is nice, honestly. Have enjoyed this franchise from the beginning, and the new season has its promise as the last big hurrah of the studio. I wear my love for Kurumi on my favorites with pride, and the show gave me a bit of sauce there. The casual interactions with Kurumi have always been treasured, this time is no exception
Plus, there's going to be that big confrontation in the future. Hope those fights are going to be eye poppers.
The nostalgia from when I first watched season 1 from nearly a decade ago is insane... really appreciate how the characters have matured and developed over the seasons
