I was kinda surprised to see some people complain about black smoke censorship. It wasn't censorship right? Or am I just looking too much into it? I actually thought that it was a nice touch. The zombies only have it when Kurumi is around and when she saw the phone the smoke started to disappear. I thought that the smoke was added by Kurumi herself to be able to deal with the whole situation and to be able to bash in their skull without being reminded that they were human.

Anyway I'm liking the show more than I expected, but it's really a slippery slope for me. On the one hand the test of courage thingy and the other girls just playing along with Yuki annoyed me a bit, however on the other the episode also showed that even when Yuki is a liability the other girls (or well at least Kurumi) nevertheless really need her. So I'll roll with it for now, but I'm a bit afraid that might chance in the future. O well we'll see.

Well, in the manga there's no smoke or anything. It's just a normal zombie. Although, in the manga Kurumi kills her without hesitation. Anime Kurumi seems emotionally weaker, so perhaps the smoke is meant to represent that weakness?

All in all, I prefer manga Kurumi. Clearly more badass and emotionally tougher than her anime version.

Ah I don't read the manga, but that explains why some people were complaining. But yeah in the anime it seems like Kurumi is having some issues with killing zombies, so I'll just keep on believing that the smoke is there for a reason.

It could be. Kurumi is definitely tougher in the manga, so they don't need no smoke. She murders the fuckers without hesitation for the most part. Losing some of that badassery in the anime is kind of disappointing, but I still like her.

What a dumb gimmick. Anime sure hates being taken seriously. It tries so hard to avoid it.

cmon, the interesting part is not the zombies, not the moe girls
it's the delusion of yuki and how that delusion interweaves with reality, this is a lecit supernatural story if you look at it from yuki's pov, and a psychological story if you look at it from the outside

you could replace the zombies with aliens, deadly virus, random monsters, demons, nothing would change

"Even if she is the emotional crutch, Yuki is a potential compromise for their safety."
if we're talking about safety, keeping a stable mood is important too, people become less aware and put themselfes more in danger when they are desperate
keeping yuki around may help them staying focused and at the same time don't get to the point of breaking down as she already did
safety is not only about food supplies

I like the manga. The only thing that needs changing is the zombies' strength. They're not shown to be strong. They have awesome Shingeki no Kyojin like tactics when dealing with zombies like tripping it , step on it, attack the head or nape(I wish I can do this in Resident Evil) or just throw something to avoid them but those tactics are wasted on slow zombies. Then again even in RE1, human zombies are weak and only strong in hordes just like in the manga. I wish they changed into HSOTD strong zombies with actual zombie appearance. The other changes are just dumb. Kurumi being emotional when killing, the library scene's "scarier when you don't see whats happening" is no longer scary, Miki etc. The art got worse, I like their manga design. When changing something it should be an improvement.

"Screw you, future me!" -Makise Kurisu, Steins;Gate
"We used to show off by waging wars and whatnot." -Watashi, Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita

This was a great follow-up episode to the first episode's shocking twist. It still retained moe moments but also had some really intense and serious scenes. Kurumi is by far my favourite so far. This episode focused more on her remembering about a guy that she really liked but ended up killing him since he became a zombie. The whole library scene was really suspenseful too. I'm really loving this show how it's a zombie apocalypse yet a cutesy moe slice of life at times. The OP's visual is also slightly different which makes the OP in the first episode so deceiving; great job Lerche!

God this show is 100x better than The Walking Dead. Like The Walking Dead the zombies are super ineffectual. Unlike The Walking Dead, the main characters are little kids with a shovel and have an excuse as to why they can't just wipe them all out. The difficulties they have make sense unlike the crap fest of The Walking Dead where well armed adults are constantly dying to a zombie that is as threatening as a crippled puppy.

Quite an outstanding show until now. I've seen many better horror or suspence scenes in films or stuff like that but the contrast with upbeat anime scenes is a distinctively unique feature to this series compared to films or games outside this world.

Megu-nee couldn't be more obvious in this episode, but the way they execute it still somehow comes off as subtle. But, I hope it doesn't take the whole series for Yuki to wake up, because it's a little annoying how big of a liability she is to the girls. Why would they take her outside with them? And let her off on her own?

My little hypothesis on Megu-nee. Megu-nee is not actually real, she is another delusion of Yuki's. More specifically she is Yuki's subconscious will of survival. If I were to go a little deeper, I somewhat think Megu-nee and Yuki are related. I think Megu-nee in reality was Yuki's deceased older sister. So when Yuki went mad (for lack of a better word) her subconscious developed Megu-nee as her guardian to keep her safe. I never read the manga so I have no idea but this is a theory I have had boiling in my brain for a bit.

I liked this episode better than the first one, since it wasn't focused too much on Yuki's cute behaviour.

Taroumaru's is worrying me a bit though, since he was incredibly well behaved this episode, but considering how it interacted with everyone in the previous, he probably died between the first and this second episode? And his dead will be shown later?

And this has been on my mind since last week: Will this anime have an original ending or will it follow the manga storyline?

It started to bother me again, because in this episode I noticed the shadows of the characters. Despite of the angle the light comes from, they barely cast a shadow below them. Specially that scene with Miki and Yuu in the Club's room. Miki's hand is close to a flowerpot, but the flowerpot cast a normal shadow, while she doesn't.

But then, the shadows are a bit weird in some other objects as well, so it must be just the animators relaxing on it a bit?

This is honestly about as good as I could have hoped for for a starting two episodes. Minor QUALITY aside, they've done a fantastic job with the reveal and with character exposition so far.

I doubt it will keep up to this standard of writing for the full series, but there's hope.
Now you're wondering if there's white text in any of my other posts.

I'm liking the direction this anime is taking, the twists are clever but not quite as clever as some seem to feel it...
for example Megunee is clearly part of the fantasy that Yuki lives, (Yuuri only prepares 4 platters of food every day, yet Megumi eats as well).

there is one thing I really hope this adaptation includes: "one episode where all the girls let out or foster a little animosity against Yuki. Because she can live such a careless life, while all the others have to actually deal with reality.
I know I would feel very sharply against someone like that in that situation.

I will try to not go in detail so I will just say something that was said in the manga: "Yuki is doing her best on her own way" There are some other stuff but take into mind that Yuki is quite important for the group and that will become more apparent as episode goes on.

And no, this is a psychological anime so it focus more on the state of mind of the main characters, there won't be lot of action and when zombie die it's mostly off camera so I don't think there will be gore.
