Damn. What a tragedy. I'd only just gotten into Berserk so I just started getting to know him as an author and he was really talented and pushed the boundaries. And only 54-years-old. What can you say.... RIP. Hope his family is okay.

Very sad news. His art will always be remembered and respected by millions.
His art and manga will be remembered but it wasn't that popular though.

He was vastly more popular in the west than in Japan, there's definitely millions of fans around, fans that buy the manga alone made it reach 40+ million copies by 2016, before it even reached 38 volumes.

The saddest news to hit the manga world since the passing of Taniguchi... Rest in peace and thanks for the best fantasy manga drawings ever put on paper. You truly were a legend.

Devastating and shocking. When I logged into twitter earlier, I thought it was a sick joke. You know, the usual kind of stupid and annoying jokes people make when it comes to Berserk. As much as I hate those jokes with every fiber of my being, I wish this time it was just a poor joke.

No words for how much of an impact Berserk has had on me, many others, creators and all kinds of series out there across entertainment mediums. Berserk was truly special. And Kentarou Miura worked so damn hard for practically his entire life. It's brutally sad and tragic his life's work doesn't have an end and even more tragic that he died so young. This is Satoshi Kon all over again.

Being a mangaka is an incredibly grueling and stressful job. I'm also thinking of Togashi now and his constant health issues.

Rest in peace, Miura. Thank you for everything.

Waking up and realizing that Kentaro Miura-sensei passed away is devastating. Berserk is my favourite manga of all time. He was a legend that left way too soon only at 54 years old. RIP

I'm not much of a manga reader and also not really someone who idolizes celebritites and creators, but Berserk and its creator Kentarou Miura held a special place in my heart. May he rest peacefully and content that he brought us one of the best mangas that will stay in peoples minds and hearts for decades to come.

Berserk is one of the things that is helping me surpassing depression, analysing Miuras work and see the parallels to real life, how to become a better person and the importance of having/finding goals...theres so much more.

Thank you isnt enough to show my appreciation

Dear Kentarou Miura,
one the most talented mangaka and creator of my favorite manga. Since my childhood you took me and many others to a journey full of joy, emotions and inspirations. Your creation were living images, legends which speak for themselves. You are a talent we will not encounter again.
My condolences to your family friends and loved ones.
Rest in peace.

That's a really sad moment for this whole industry. Such a legend passing away at such a young age, and now Berserk seemingly also never going to be finished either

I read Berserk just recently. At one part in the end notes he was talking about his friend who passed away and how he felt lonely about it. Seems he followed soon after. It's really heart breaking to see him go since I absolutely loved his work.

Rest in peace, one of the mangaka legends.

I can't believe this. I JUST became a Berserk fan, started collecting the Deluxe Editions, binged the shows and now he dies? Rest in piece, you made something special.

This is a cartoon site, you clown. Elitism in general is cringe enough already. Let people enjoy stuff.

hundreds of thousands looks right. Because fans even bought all the volumes so a single fans can purchase multiple copies.
"I think I wanted to attack something. Like betraying people or hurting people. And, well, it's not exactly nice, but hurting the readers too... In all honestly, I feel that's what I really wanted to do. For me, as a reader, when I think, "this manga will remain in my heart," it means, for example, it phenomenally hurt me: It's those kinds of experiences I'm after." - Pajime Hisayama (My favourite hurting author).

Big F. Rest in peace. He was still too young to die...

Although Berserk wasn't one of my favorites it was still one of the best dark medieval manga I've read and the story was finally going in a very interesting direction for me. It's a shame to think such a huge work will probably never be finished. Still, his legacy won't be forgotten.

As terrible as I think Berserk has become due to its far more lighthearted nature, and as much as I had criticized Miura, it cannot be denied: he was truly a legendary artist. Kentaro Miura created a story that impacted my life immensely, a story that became my biggest artistic and literary inspiration. There is no other work of art out there that captures the feeling of terror and despair and struggle against nihilistic fate as well as Berserk did. There is no character that embodies the struggle against the horrors of the world as well as Guts, a man who endured hell on earth for his whole life, a man who experienced happiness only to have it brutally ripped away from him, a man who sunk to the depths of despair only to pull himself out with sheer force of will. Miura's gritty and painstakingly detailed artwork brought all of this to life, and seeing his artistic skill and talent grow throughout the three decades of publication was something special. Berserk as a whole may not be 10/10 for me, but it is without a doubt my favorite manga. Rest in piece Miura.

That's rarely the case, Berserk didn't even have many sales for limited editions in Japan, and the costly limited ones it got in the west sold even less and were for dedicated collectors only.

Those are a vast minority, it definitely has more than a million different people buying, considering those numbers are from 5 years ago.

Let alone another vast portion of fans that just read online for free without buying copies, that is usually even larger. What is the point you are even trying to make in here?
