Pretty good setup episode, the fights should be rad next week (unless we are jumping back to Emilia doing trials).

Also all this drama about not being able to leave the sanctuary but Garfiel can just waltz out too. lmao

It kinda goes along with his character theme of himself and his own terrified mindset being the only thing keeping him locked up, but yeah in the WN we learn that he can get out way earlier on, like in the second loop of the arc (Part 1 Episode 6). Certain things were moved around.

That's the secret he was hiding from Subaru in Season 2 Part 1 Episode 10, telling him that he doesn't know what it's like and that he doesn't know Hell. That's why he was terrified of Subaru knowing the truth - that he could leave the entire time.

Brilliant and masterful writing.

I love how Subaru just assumed the same thing that many others did, Garfiel is still in the Sanctuary and didn't leave with Frederica because he's a half-human, half-beastman lol

The winds are changing and so is Emilia.

Puck is back. Going to be a face off between Roswaal against Puck and Ram. On top of that the mansion is about to be a bloody mess. Garfiel will battle it out against Elsa with his powerful defense. Next episode is going to be tense ^_^

Elsa still crazy lol. I wonder if she was referring to Reinhard when she talks about almost being killed.
Yes, she was referring to Reinhard.

Antearion said:
Also I forgot, but can Subaru always finds her or does she let him and pretends she didn't. Petra couldn't find her, but I thought Beatrice controlled that with her (Yin) Yang magic.
If Beatrice is not actively hiding (by checking if someone is about to use the Door Crossing), Subaru can find her whenever he wishes. I think it has something to do with his alignment to Yin (same as Beatrice).

Oh okay. I was wondering because couldn't. I didn't know if there were requirements.

I'm probably forgetting something, but now that Garfiel is not an enemy anymore, the inhabitants of the village are not hostages anymore, right? They could in theory leave the Sanctuary?

PUCK IS BACK! All hail our little furry friend!

So much to look forward to next week. I loved the reunion of Frederica and Garfiel. That's some sibling affection I have ever seen. Garfiel's surprise reaction about Frederica being huge, heck even I am surprised she's that big, that honestly never occured to me. Can't wait to see Garfiel vs Elsa.

The whole sequence of the talk with Ram, Emilia and Roswaal was quite interesting, but I honestly didn't expect Ram to stand against Roswaal at the end, that she doesn't want Roswaal's wish be fulfilled. Ram has really improved on me from this episode alone. But that's not all, she was holding the catalyst with Puck in it??? Did he just transfer catalyst to make the memories return to Emilia? A little confused by that, but I am sure we'll get answers soon. A shame they cut off right at the point they would clash.

What an amazing episode and I can't wait for next week!

One question - after the witches tea party it was stated the rabbit(s) would appear and are attracted to large amounts of mana and are known to be within sanctuary from the rewinds - so if Puck, Ram and Rosewaal start throwing magic around the crystal - won't that cause the rabbit(s) to swarm?

No. Roswaal stated before that changing the weather was the amount of mana it took to draw them in, which is anything beyond a human alone can do. If he could do it all himself then he wouldn't need the crystal as a catalyst.

I'm surprised I haven't noticed it before, but the dialogue is absolutely horrendous in this series; this whole episode was characters constantly expressing how they feel and think in the most elaborate, grandiose way possible, and psycho-analyzing each other annoyingly, along with unnecessary banter.

I just noticed that Re: Zero's dialogue constantly does this; where characters spend minutes on minutes monologuing about the big conclusion they've reached about themselves and whatnot. I feel that big dramatic dialogue scenes like this, are meant to be more relevant to the overall story, and are meant to be used sparingly.
But even though I have a LOT of issues with Re: Zero...it's still entertaining. But I feel watching this series for me, is like eating a expired donut; I know it's crap. It doesn't taste great. But it's still tasty.

1. What's Roswaal true intentions got 2 do with his love with Echdina? My understanding was that he is trying to sharpen subarus resolve to make him focus on support Emilia in her claim for the throne thus allowing him to achieve his wish by killing the dragon. But whats his love to Echdina got do with it at all, I don't get the connection here.
If I remember correctly anime skipped that part

I didn't expected the battle against Roswall be right now in the series.
Just Puck right now to can fight even against Roswall, to be honest
Finally we going to have the mansion raid.
Is safe to say that Rem erasure was good. After all she isn't in the hit list.
Now hopefully on the next few episodes, see a happy Betty.I suppose.

if something is horrendous here is your ignorance, there are a shittons of anime like re:zero filled of dialogues character centered you know why? Because it depend from the source they ll come, in fact re;zero comes from a light novel source that since doesn’t rely much on images or face expressions and generally visualizing imputes (manga) but on introspection and dialogues that’s it + what roswaal did and in part ram too with emilia was basically manipulation that is obvious will come stating out others weakness and using at proper vantages furthermore since re:zero makes great characters that you can analyze 360 degrees all around thanks to that since if they cut all those monologues the characters wouldn’t be so enlighted. I actually wouldn’t complain but be happy as a re:zero fan that we got such amazing writing with such amazing characters

Plenty of anime have dialogue that doesn't constantly rub my face; particularly anime adapted from manga.
I've read my fair share of novels, but none of them are ham-fisted in their dialogue the way Re: Zero is. The dialogue in the novels I've read feel just as natural as in live action movies. I don't think any of the characters in Re: Zero are great: because I don't care about most of them, and the ones who do get development, like Emilia, is not done in an unconventional or exceptional way, I feel. I don't think the monologues make characters appear enlightening, because nothing they're saying to me, is enlightening.

But hey; if you believe Re: Zero is a great series, more power to you.
in fact i was referring to the anime adaptation of a novel + read re:zero novel then you have all the rights to judge and compare it to other novels. Saying that the only character developed is Emilia says enough about how much you understood of this series + how nothing is enlightening even roswaal and Subaru’s comparing? Even Subaru’s backstory? Even almost all the fucking dialogues we had til now reconnecting to something else someone said even from s1 that’s just a blind opinion dude, don’t hate so randomly

Why do I need to read the source material? I didn't say that Emilia was the only character developed; I just said that I don't find the character development interesting, using her as an example. I don't find Roswaal's and Subaru's comparing compelling because:

1) I don't care about either character
2) I don't care about the thing they're being compared to (ie, their love for their woman)
3) The anime constantly reiterates the comparison, making it feel ham-fisted for me.

I don't think much of the dialogue connects to something someone said from season 1. I'm not hating randomly; I'm explaining in very specific detail my problems with the dialogue of this series.

You've called me ignorant, claimed my opinion is blind, and that I'm hating the show randomly, I don't understand why my opinion has upset you? If you like the show, great! More power to you man! If you disagree with me, that's perfectly fine! But no need to resort to personnel attacks.
I’m stating that your opinion is purely subjective considering the fact that since you didn’t evidently liked the characters since the beginning for a matter of personal taste you obviously didn’t cared so much about developments and interconnections and since you may didn’t like them it’s obvious ending disliking a series that is LITERALLY a character driven plot. it’s okay but saying that since you didn’t like them the writing is terrible and the characters same it’s random and blind as you stated from your 2 points too furthemore the second point (it is yea the love for their womans but their but also their methods of achieving a goal and the Changing theme .

How are WhiteFox keeping up these 29 minute episodes, absolute madmen. Nothing but props for the work they've put into this.

Great episode again.

Loved how Ram asked Emilia for help after acknowledging her strength, also loved how Emilia shot down Roswaal completely to tell him that Subaru and him were nothing alike. E.M.T has come so far. <3

Frederica and Garfield's reunion was great too, looking forward to next week. Kinda hoping we get to see the ED visuals again next time. I loved them.

I disagree with you, and I'm an anime only who doesn't know anything about the LN. A lot of LN readers are jumping the gun with missed/omitted info that will no doubt be explained later if not in this season then the next season, and that's because I have a friend that's an LN reader that said the anime is stream-lining some of the events and moving other events around so that more info can be given at a different time.

1) Not caring about a character isn't a criticism to me. If you don't care about a character, or certain characters, then why would you care about the anime itself? Furthermore, why should you continue to watch the anime? You might as well watch something else.

2) See above

3) The comparison was "constantly" reiterated a grand total of four to five times across the entire season by two different characters (Elsa and Roswaal himself). That's not ham-fisted. But maybe if you actually cared about the characters.....

Their comparison isn't a simple "you're just like me so be like me" drivel that you constantly see in media. In fact, their ideals are on the opposite end of the spectrum (Subaru believes in the strength of others, and he's the weakest person vs Roswaal believes in the weakness of others, and he's one of the strongest people alive), all based on their devotion to someone who saved their life.

Subaru believes in the strength of a person in spite of their weaknesses, Roswaal uses the weakness of others as a way to manipulate them and prove that his inability to move on from loving Echidna after 400 years is par for the course and a true sign of dedication.

That's why he told Subaru that if he truly loved Emilia, then he would discard everyone and anyone else in favor of her so that he would make her King (and by extension help Roswaal realize his dream). He thinks Subaru devoting himself to helping others is a weakness that will cause a deviation from the Tome Of Wisdom and knock everything off course.

I could go on but there's layers upon layers upon layers of character depth and motivations between the main and supporting casts that has been hinted at from the beginning of Season 1 all the way untl now.

But again, you have to care about the characters. If you don't, then I'm sorry to say but maybe this anime just isn't for you.

An opinion is subjective, by definition. I've spent paragraphs explaining my issues with the dialogue in very clear detail. Even if I spent paragraphs explaining why I don't care for Subaru or the other characters, my issues with the pacing, the weird tone, characters' logic, you would still say I have a, "subjective opinion." Because in the end, no matter how many paragraphs I spend critiquing an anime, or justifying my feelings towards it, it's all subjective opinion.

Earlier you said I need to read the source material to have a "right" to have an opinion on the series. I'm sorry, but nobody has to pass some sort of unwritten metric to have an opinion, on anything.

While it adds to Roswaal's characterisation and explains his motives better, it's not that important anime-wise. It's a plot point what won't relevant until much later.

Besides, they did something similar in season 1, where they skipped everything related to Sanctuary and Echidna

Those are little snippets of dialogue that were very relevant to the plot at the time. However, right now, Roswaal's actions and motivations are very central to the plot.

Arc 3 in Season 1 got really shafted, so much foreshadowing and plot points cut.

What part about my opinion is "incoherent"? I have explicitly stated my issues with the series: especially the dialogue.

I said in my original post that despite my issues with the series, I will continue watching, because Re: Zero is still entertaining to me.

I don't really hate the characters; I just don't really care about most of them. I do like Emilia, since watching the Frozen Bonds movie.

Could you please define what "objective flaws" are?
flaws as pacing that mostly in the beginning of each season/arc is evident or any possible plot hole generalizing basically everything that is evident and can be effectively a flaw that is mostly technical. you literally said dialogue is horrendous and either characters basically and you are trying to get out of it as it wasn’t a blindly subjective ranting opinion, literally re:zero characters thanks to the “flaws” you mentioned can be psychologically analized at 360 degrees if the thing is about not liking and not caring it’s whole another thing from saying re:zero characters are written bad or something like that + the dialogues surely are very long sometimes, it’s still for the “novel” adaptation and a bit of Tappei’s habit, but it helps with understanding better the characters motives and mannerisms + hints and lore details. i mean take a screenshot of a single dialogue in re;zero and you’ll find what i say when i say they may be long but it’s because they are proportionate to the amount of info and peculiarities this show has to offer to us

Dame what a way to build up for next episode

Subaru about to be that person for Beatrice

Ram about to fight Roswaal

Puck is Back

Emilia about to start the second trial

And best of all Garfiel vs Elsa

All this and more next time on Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World

PS Garfiel is now one of my favorite male characters

What do you mean? I've had flaws with Re: Zero's pacing since season 1.

I did say the dialogue is horrendous, but I did not say the characters are horrendous. What is a "blindly subjective ranting opinion"? In my original post, I very specifically explained my issues with the dialogue; so I'm not going to repeat my criticism of the dialogue.

What do you mean, "psychologically analyzed at 360 degrees"? What do my issues (aka perceived flaws) with the series' dialogue has to do with how the characters are written? Granted, I don't think the characters are particularly engaging, for the most part.

I didn't say the characters in Re: Zero are written badly; I just said that they're not very interesting to me; most of their personalities are extremely simple to me.

What do you mean it's for the "novel" adaptation? I don't think that just because Re: Zero is adapted from a novel, justifies its lengthy dialogue; all the novels I've read that are NOT light novels, have fine dialogue that doesn't stretch out over long periods of unnecessary.

I feel that a lot of the dialogue is unnecessarily stretched in this anime, especially in this episode. Long portions of dialogue is not necessarily a bad thing, but I feel you could've cut out a lot of the dialogue in this series, and not really lose a thing. There are plenty of anime that convey the characters' motivations, mannerisms, the world buildings, without the characters constantly going on tangents.

Besides, I don't find any of the characters' tangents themselves to be remotely realistic; I don't think it's normal for a person to spend 5 minutes psychoanalyzing another person, or talking about how they've changed. Personally, I think it's annoying. I'd rather the dialogue be more snappy, quick to the point, while having the themes (like the similarities between Subaru and Roswaal) be the subtext, rather than the text itself.

This argument won’t really go anywhere. I really think that you should read more light novels because they’re all like this. Usually you don’t feel it in the adaptation because they generally cut a lot instead of giving 29:30 episodes with the majority of dialogue left in. I personally love the dialogue and the characters, but I guess it’s fine that you don’t. Next arc is way more fast paced and action oriented. Also we are getting to the fights now

Also on your point about psychoanalysis, very few characters actually do this. I’d say that Roswaal definitely does this a lot but keep in mind that his teacher is Echidina who’s job is to be greed with knowledge and to analyze others. Usually the dialogue doesn’t seem to be psychoanalytical, but I do agree that it does get like that at points

I keep replying, because I, and others, disagree with each other. It's not just a simple matter of, "I disagree with you," but rather, "I disagree with you because X" and I'm interested in discussing that X.
The characters in Re: Zero constantly go on tangents about how the other character is thinking: Roswaal to Subaru, Rem to Roswaal, and more.

But isn’t that Roswaal’s whole nature? He’s designed to be cunning and analyzing (similar to echidna). I feel like a lot of the tangents in the show are because of characters like Roswaal and Subaru. When it comes to the other characters I don’t really see that problem. I feel like Subaru has very little going for him and he has to rely a lot on his words to convince others of certain things. Just my 2 cents

There's one question I forgot to ask:

When Roswaal revealed that he was the one who sent those people to attack Ram's village, why didn't Ram appear surprised? Did she know the whole time? If she did, why hasn't she tried to kill him, or get away from him? Because the anime has made it clear that Ram cares for Roswaal, enough that she wants him to let go of his "delusions."

If someone needed further confirmation that Ram is the better twin, here it is.
But keep preaching the blue (who?) one, go on, xD

That said, seeing Roswaal with a defeated look on his face is priceless.
And two times in two different occasion? Oh god. Ram get his ass lol.

Also, the reveal he made confirms something I suspected since S1 if it wasn't already confirmed back then, aka that Roswaal is in fact one of the bad guys hurting Ram's village and kidnapping her and sister.

I don't think being cunning and analyzing necessarily equates to a character going on monologues about the nature of other characters and themselves. Especially when it ruins any potential subtext, and drags out the dialogue, and especially when plenty of cunning and analytical characters in anime don't go on these tangents.
I do recall there being more tangents from other characters, but I can't recall exactly who; just that I feel characters are constantly having these tangents.

What do you mean by "little going for him"? What "certain things"?

By very little going for him I meant that he’s weak. He can’t do anything but convince others to help him out. Where would he be if he didn’t convince Garf to help him or Otto or Ram or Emilia, or literally anyone else? He’s always needed to do this (like with Rem in s1) or attempting to get Crusch’s help in s1. By certain things I meant trying to convince them to do something/help him out by breaking down their character “Emilia you’re a pain in the ass” the biggest asset he has aside from RBD is his ability to convince people.

On the topic about characters analyzing each other, Roswaal doing this does make sense. Echidna also had a long monologue which she talked about the greediness of her nature and wanting to understand more about everything. When it comes to those types of characters these tangents make sense. I feel like a majority of these tangents fo come from Subaru who’s attempting to convince someone to do something by pointing out flaws in their character. I don’t really see many others do this.

I don’t really know that to tell you beyond this. I like the dialogue, many others like the dialogue. You don’t like the dialogue, some others don’t like the dialogue either. These “tangents” don’t bother me as much as they seem to bother you is all I’m saying (obviously there are ithers who don’t like it as well). Thanks for the conversation

What I'm curious about, is what direction is Roswaal's character going to go in? I can't imagine him getting a redemption arc of some sort, because the guy so far has showed 0 remorse for his actions. Yet Subaru seems intent on keeping the guy alive to help Subaru. Which in itself is fucked up because of everything that Roswaal has done, but that definitely shows how Subaru has gotten so used to seeing the people around him die, that he no longer seems to hold grudges for that. Which would've been great subtext, if the anime didn't explicitly point this out via through Roswaal episodes before.

Explicitly pointing out things doesn’t always ruin things. Just because things are more spelled out than usual doesn’t make it any less impactful imo (we obviously differ in opinion here). As for Roswaal as a character, they can’t exactly kill him. He’s very powerful and has a huge role in the royal selection. As awful as he may be, he is very important to the Emilia camp

It was a decent episode, Re:Zero is a decent anime but sometimes I feel like they over-complicate things way too much with the long dialogues, this may work better in the light novels or whatever but in the anime it gets weird and the pacing seems slow even if we get 29 minute episodes, something that I don't like that much is that most of the dialogues happens in the same place, they barely move so there's barely any animation going on in these 29 minute episodes, I actually would prefer if they get straight to the point with the dialogues and move the story faster because it's taking too long to get somewhere. Just some criticism but it's still a decent anime.

Also, finally we are back to Elsa again, I'm really interested in that character, I've been interested in her since her first appearance, I just can't get enough of her sadistic psychopath nature and her smile is killing it like always, next episode should be interesting.

And last but not least, fuck Roswaal and his silly hat, that guy is a douchebag.
