KyoAni is always best. Beside KyoAni; Wit, Madhouse, shaft is also individually great.

Also, MAPPA is kind of overwhelming imo. maybe, maybe not.

It wasn't like this for me when I first got into watching anime proper, as I used to be a very anti-Toei guy, but I honestly have a lot of respect for the studio now. I still don't care for the main works that Toei are known for, but a lot of their other works I've grown to love. Also, their workplace culture... yeah, I'll just leave it at that.

@D_D_DJ and they mostly do original anime too which takes more effort and risks for any studio

Madhouse made so many more great anime than any other studio that it would still be my n°1 even if it didn't do anything for the next 10-15 years, and it already did very little in the last 10.

Trigger, KyoAni and Production I.G have always been among my favorites and OLM is the best studio of the recent years, but the biggest climber is Toei, rising to 2nd place after years in which I didn't give it too much credit (it's a great studio when it doesn't make long running anime).

All time Toei or Ghibli.

But since it's not on the list I chose Sunrise for all the old mecha anime. Trigger is a close second.

Based on weighted scores according to Anime+ David Productions is my highest rated studio. However I voted my second highest rated which is Bones instead as nearly everything I scored was JoJo for David Production which I felt wasnt a true representation.

So my top three on Anime + are

Weighted:

1. David Productions
2. Bones
3. TMS Entertainment

Mean:
1. Geno Studio
2. Graphinica
3. Lan Studio

Count:
1. Toei
2. Bones
3. Madhouse

I see that Kyoto has the highest vote. However for me it doesn't really offer much that suits my tastes.

It's 31 on my weighted score, 42 on mean score and 30 on count. So not even a top twenty for me.

i can already smell the bias against ghibli (another proof this userbase is infested by bigots and outcasts) who is clearly a cut above the rest but whatever... i'd say the ones who come after ghibli are Kyoto animation, Madhouse and Ufotable.

1. Wit: I have watched like 10 of their shows and not a single one is below top tier production. Even kabaneri and bubble that had super meh stories were still a visual feast.

2. Kyoto animation: same as wit, they pretty much have 0 misses production wise. The only reason I put wit above them is personal taste. Other wise they are just as good if not even better.

3. madhouse: unlike wit and kyoani not ALL of their works are bangers visually, but they probably have the most peaks out of any studio out there. They have so many all time classics that 90% of anime fans have at least one of their shows in their top 10.

from what I have seen there are a lot of other top tier ones too. Production Ig and trigger can easily be considered top tier. Shaft would be my 4th pick for all time best and I heve only seen like 3 shows from them.

Ufotable is pretty much the champion of using effects and lighting.

Honestly, a lot of these options are valid picks for the best.

@trinitroglycerin I didn't vote ghibli cause they only make movies so I judge them based on different standards.

also unlike others ghibli IS Miyazak (for the most part), so unlike other studios the story of the movies is also a factor for it.

And personally, I dislike a lot of things about how Miyazaki writes his stories.

@APolygons2 1. What is the difference between movies and shows? this is no excuse for badly written stories.
2. And what does that take away from the studio's legacy? I'd say this is another proff of miyazaki's genius.
3. If you fail to enjoy Miyazaki's movies then your childhood must have been quite sad.

I love studio talk because KyoAni always gets near the top despite the fact that, statwise, they don't actually have a great record.

They don't have a single show rated above 9

They have only a single show rated above 8.5 (Violet Evergarden) that isn't a sequel or movie.

Other than the aforementioned 8.5+, there are only 3 non sequels non movies that are above 8, and only one among the 3 came out in the last decade (Hibike Euphonium).

No matter where you cut it, these are shit numbers. Somehow KyoAni remains beloved despite their titles not doing much numbers lol

@trinitroglycerin

1. movie's are far better animated than tv shows because they have both shorter runtimes and bigger budgets. Movie's looking way better than tv shows is the norm.

This applies to western media as well. There are exceptions of course, but that is generally the case.

2. this is connected to points 3 so...

3. firstly, I never said I don't like his movies. In fact I like almost all the ones that I have seen.

I have seen castle in the sky and princess mononoke at least 10 times as a kid.

Miyazaki is fantastic at bringing you into a world of wonder, a real adventure of the unknown. What I don't like is something that I have come to dislike noe that I am older.

And that's the fact that all of his worlds are half baked. It always feels like I didn't get enough.

I finished princess monoke and the boy and the heron thinking I needed more. I understand why he does this. He creates a story within a world that is far bigger than it, but his work does this to the point of being frustrating.

The worst of it was the boy and the heron. The ending in particular felt extremely rushed. It suddenly tried to put stakes on a world, character, and plot that we barely got to know.

and this doesn't ruin the movies. The lowest score I have given to a ghibli movie is a 7.

But it is the reason for why ghibli movies are rarely my favourite. out of the ones that I have seen Castle in sky is the only one that I didn't I have this problem with.

and if other ghibli movies were like it, I would probably put them as one of my favourites.

all that aside, you sound like a pretentious dick. you don't have to be rude over someone not liking a studio as much as you.

"you must have had a sad childhood"

who says that in a context like this? what is wrong with you dude?

It depend on which type of animation you want to see. For example if you want to see 3d animation then orange is the best in my opinion. And I said 'in my opinion', there isn't anything as 'THE BEST' cause everything is subjective. It can differ from person to person.

Ghibli is the only studio in my favs currently but it feels like cheating to vote for them. They're a different category with a different focus.

Ufotable is my other favorite but I don't want to vote for them just because of the Fate series.

I have ambivalent feelings towards KyoAni. Their works are just too melodramatic.

So it leaves me with Madhouse as the sweet spot.

The answer is always Bones. The animation and art quality of their anime has always been consistently good regardless of the type of series they make, ranging from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Star Driver, Darker than Black, Concrete Revolutio, Noragami, Wolf’s Rain, Eureka Seven, Vanitas no Carte, Space Dandy to Ouran Highschool Host Club, and the list goes on. Even when they make total flops like Captain Earth, the anime is still great from a technical standpoint, which is a quality you don’t often see in other studios.
